You know, besides reading all the great posts here at DT, another thing that helps me stay motivated is to read about other people's weight loss experiences. If you click around the Diettalk webring, there are a lot of great stories that are very encouraging.

Also I have a little mantra that I keep on the front of my fridge on an index card.. it says "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!"

Well I know for me, I just keep reminding myself that it took a long time to get the weight on me, (I didn't just go from slim to fat overnight! LOL), its going to take awhile to get it off.
And hey lets face it. You could be on here saying that you have gained all the weight back that you lost (and you may have done this a time or 3, like me). Sso that is one plus in your favor ;)
If you have a picture of yourself when you were smaller, put it on the fridge. Carry it in your purse. Have it available whenever you think you might reach for that chocolate cake, take it out and look at it.
Then ask yourself if it really is THAT good?
(If you don't have picture of yourself, just a picture of someone who looks good to you, i.e. "I wish I looked like that!")
Certainly come here often. You would be surprized what you find.
Just remember that if you continue to eat right and exercise, the weight may not come off as fast as you would like, but at least it not going on even faster!
Stick to your efforts and stay away from the scale for a couple of weeks. You may just find that you have lost more than you thought. What the heck, even if you find that you didn't lose any weight, but stuck to that regimen for 2 weeks, I would have to say "YOU WON!" That you are on the road to a healthier lifestyle.
In the end, its a lifestyle we need, not a diet.
You are worth it! Bottom line! You are worth the effort.

By the way JulieK...

I LOVE IT!

I am putting the same thing on my fridge when I go offline.

Great reminder!

Meredith's mom, The only thing that has worked for me in staying motivated is making sure that I don't project too far into the future. I try really hard to just stay into today. If I just get through this day..... and if I do that consistently, the days add up and the rest is history, as they say. One day at a time sometimes seems like a trite little overused saying, but for me it's the only way......

I know what kept me going was everyone here at D T, and my family. I just had a baby in Jan, and I need to be healthy and have a lot of energy for her, and to keep up on every day things. I am 30 years old, and I missed out on a lot of things for 10 years, and I said I am not going to any more. Everyone would be out side enjoying the weather, swimming, what ever, and I would be on the couch watching TV. I lost 90 lbs and got 4 lbs under goal. 136 is my weight for almost 6 weeks now. I seem to go from 135 - 137, and I am fine with that. Still working on the toning, and after I see more results, might drop another 6 lbs. I didn't want to be 226 any more, and I will never go back. I have learned a healthy life style that I am so happy with and wish I would have learned it 10 years ago. Keep reading and posting. It helps A LOT!!! A great bunch of people here to keep you on track.
Take care
Stacey :)

I'd like to credit this suggestion to the person who first posted it, but I can't remember where I read it here; I followed their advice and make a big flowery sign with the number of pounds I've lost and stick it to the fridge, replacing it when I lose more. I have a long haul ahead, and it is preferable to focus on what I've accomplished, rather than on how far I have to go. It feels good to see it, and I want to make it grow.

One saying that I keep in mind to keep me on track - "Don't give up what you want most for what you want for the moment" - it usually helps me thnik before I eat - because I remember what my long term goals are and remember that I am going to get there some day.
