Hi Melissa, I know that being overweight is a great stuggle... First and foremost you need to realize that there is NO quick fix!! You didnt gain the weight over night and you will not lose the weight over night.. Bottom line, you need to eat healthier and exercise... Keep a food journal, that is a great way to monitor what you are eating.. Are you eating because you are bored, depressed etc.... A food journal will help you to see if there is a pattern to why you are eating maybe to much at certain times.. Are you eating healthy, are you making sure not to skip meals?? You know, that will actually make your metabolism slow down.. Do you exercise? That is so important!! Do you drink lots of water?? I currently am working on losing weight, and I too have wanted quick fixes.. but after years of trying quick fixes I realized that quick fixes dont last.. More often then not you will gain the weight back and then some... Make small changes daily and make a choice to just live healthier and you will see the weight come off.. Most definitly if you stay focused and positive you should be wearing that bikini next summer.. This site has been a great support base for me and it has helped me realize I am not alone... One great thing Ive learned from everyones stories on this site is that whats most important is liking yourself NO MATTER WHAT, and living to be healthy... The weight loss will then follow gradually, but it then will stay off. Good luck to you! LeeAnn

Your on the right road! Admiting that you want to do this for you and not for everyone else is the first step. Second you set a good length of time for seeing results.(next summer) since as leann told you it does not happen overnight. You CAN DO IT!!!!

Hi Melissa! Glad to see you've joined us here at diettalk. It's a great place to help keep yourself accountable and get motivation to keep on going in your quest to get healthy. You've gotten some great advice already and it's good that you are doing this for you. Your weight loss will never last if you are doing it for someone else. And slower weight loss is good because it's more likely to stay off that way! You'll get there. Just try to take it one day at a time and the days will fly by before you know it. If you get up in the morning and tell yourself that you are going to eat healthy and exercize for this day... just one day... then repeat on a daily basis. It's much easier that way. That's what keeps me from getting overwhelmed. Take care and write here lots... that helps, too!
