Hey gang! I was just wondering if there was anybody out there that had lost one hundred or more pounds on just eating healthy. I guess what I mean is, do I have to follow a set plan to lose weight? I just wanted to have a balanced diet, and exercise. Does anyone have any hints on how to do it? I don't want to count calories. I just want to make healthy choices. I need input! I really want to just reteach myself how to eat, like I've read some people have done here on DT. Any advice is welcome! Thanks for your help.

Hi Pinky,

Well, I'd like to say I'd lost 100 pounds eating healthy but I haven't - I've lost 50. I drink loads of water and I exercise (Tae-bo or step or even BOTH, if I'm on a roll) for about 40 mins a day. It's worked wonders for me because as soon as I go on a diet I start thinking about things I can't eat and then I start craving them and OH NO!! You can see what I'm getting at............

AND, another good thing about the healthy eating approach I can re-educate myself and hopefully when I've lost my other 43 pounds I can maintain that weight. Who wants to be on a diet for the rest of thei life? Not me. Healthy eating sounds far less formidable in my book...................
Hope I've given you something to think about!!All I know is that it works for me.

Yay for Lucy and her star!!!

I agree with Lucy. The more strict of a plan I have, the more I rebel against it. I know HOW to eat healthier and maybe it will take longer this way, but FOR ME I think I'll stick with it better.

Good luck!

Pinky I lost 131 pounds basically eating a healthy low fat plan. Three meals a day plus two snacks, lots of water, exercise essential. I fell into a depression and have been gaining back what I lost but I am not giving up. The best advice I can give you is perserverance not perfection. If you mess up dont think it is all over just get back on track as soon as possible. Hope this helps, sooz

Jeez. Thanks everybody. Sooz, I lose was 280 and went down to 215, fell back into my old routine and have since gained it all back. The feeling is so horrible that I try to avoid friends or people I know at all costs. I is really depressing! I don't want to have to go through this again. I just want to lose it and remain very active the rest of my life.

Kirbs, thanks for the advice on tons of water and exercise. When I stick to both of them, I know, I do lose. And I don't have to worry about it being unhealthy. Plus I always feel great! Thanks for reminding me. I'm sorta in a lazy spell.

Cantina, you're right about putting too many restrictions on. It sucks and makes me go binge happy.

Thank you so much for your input. Times are a bit rough right now. I haven't been on my best behavior but to come here makes such a difference.

Thanks again and congratulations on your star Kirbs!

I lost 115lbs by taking "red meat" dairy, and bread out of my diet. The 1st 45-50 without any excercise within 30-45 days.

I lost the rest by continuing to eat healthy, and going back to the gym and running, and cycling. Now I feel great!

I have about 20-25 lbs left to go, and those should be off within 25-35 days!

Good luck!

Hi, I just joined this group. Original post on the general buletin "Beginning again". Baby was kind enough to push me to actually weigh myself, so I could really get where I am.

Well, I just did. I haven't done that in over 9 months and I'm 246! I've never been this fat and uncomfortable.

But it certainly is wonderful to here how all of you are dealing with it. It is beginning to feel good to have people to talk with. Good luck to all of us.

Hi I'm new :)

When you say "exercise" - what exercise do you exactly do?

Oh and when the guy said he left out "red meat", dairy, and bread...does he mean the bread group? Or just bread itself? What types of dairy does he avoid?

Thank you so much :)

I was wondering also about what moviebob1 said. Is it dairy products from "red meat" animals like cows? or is it all red meat and all dairy products? And moviebob1, where did you come up with this kind of a solution/program? Please explain!!!

Thanks....MrBuch

I have lost 110 lbs so far by eating low-fat and healthy and by exercising 5 days a week.

Here is what I follow: lots and lots of fruits and veggies. I don't eat much grains but when I do they are all whole grains. I don't eat much meat, that's a personal preference thing, I eat legumes and soy products because they are very healthy. Basically, I shun comercial baked goods other than what you find in a natural foods store because they are loaded with partially hydrogenated fat which is both artery clogging and causes cancer. Marjarine is all partially hydrogenated fat and is just horrible, so is crisco. Use olive oil instead.

The plan I recommend is any one you will actually stick to! I do encourage you to keep it healthy. Diet cokes and low fat twinkies might help you lose weight but they are not healthy, in my opinion.

Congrats on taking control of your life/health! Love, Heather

Welcome to the newbies, and to Pinky...YOU CAN DO IT!

We're right around the same weight... perhaps we can share ideas and tips with each other as we go.

I have fallen off track this past week, but I'm going to the fitness center tomorrow... I am not on any particular program but am focusing on the food pyramid and getting more fruits and vegetables into my meal plan rather than chocolate and chips. :)

You hang in there, we can do this together! Drop me a line if you'd like at roxies@hotmail.com.

See ya!
Hugs,
Roxie
