View Full Version : Help! I'm ready to take the plunge!
BillieLeigh 07-31-00, 11:00 PM Into weight loss that is. I need to loose 105 pounds and I really don't know where to start. I am new to the internet and I'm so thankful I found you all. I hope you will let me join your group. I started today with keeping a food journal. Does anyone have any motivation tips? I usually do well on a diet until someone notices that I have lost weight and tells me I'm looking good. I can't seem to take a compliment. Does anyone else have that problem or am I weird?

Hi Billie Leigh and welcome to diettalk and our "happy family". You are most welcome to join our group and I'm sure you'll be a great addition. My suggestion to you on getting started is to start making some small changes in your eating first of all. Maybe just start cutting back portions or making healthy choices in what you have each meal and for snacks. Start drinking lots of water if you don't already - somewhere at 64 ounces or more a day. And start moving a little more than you normally do - even 10 minutes to start will help you. Try not to look at the whole amount of weight you have. Just take it apart and make small goals and do it one day at a time... to me that's been so important so I don't get overwhelmed. You've taken the first step by coming here and now we can all do it together. Take care and hope to hear more from you!

This is great advice from Dj.
Oh welcome, by the way! You'll find plenty of support round here.........
Start with small steps and focus on smaller goals, otherwise it's far too daunting. I have about the same amount to lose (I've already losr about 50 pounds though) but I don't focus on that. Far too scary!!
I don't think you are being weird when you fall off the wagon when someone starts noticing weight loss. There was a post about it just the other day. Keep coming here - we're all in the same boat - let's stick together.
I know we can all do it! We all deserve success.

BillieLeigh 08-01-00, 01:15 PM I'm thrilled to be a part of your group. I'm on cloud nine after getting your posts. Thanks to Dj and lucy for the great advice. I have drank 4 glasses of water already and it's only noon. This is a first for me I have never drank water. I have hated it since childhood,(to bad I liked food!) I'm going to make it this time. I'm doing it for me! Bye now. Billie Leigh

Hi Billieleigh... glad you drank your water today. Something that helps water go down a little better if you're not used to drinking it or don't really like it is to squeeze some fresh lemon wedges into it. I do that sometimes just for something different. It's really refreshing! Take care and hope to hear from you soon!

BillieLeigh 08-01-00, 11:39 PM Dj thanks for the great suggestion. I really like the taste of lemon so that will work great. I managed to drink all 8 glasses of water today. I had a really good day. I'm really serious about losing the weight and then keeping it off. I'm going to take it one day at a time and one pound at a time. Hope to hear from you soon. BillieLeigh

dosflores 08-03-00, 02:45 AM Welcome, Billie,
Ya didn't wanna sound dumb?!?! I think I've written a post or two that would take that worry right out of your mind! lol
I weigh 226. I started at 245, so you and I are kind of starting at the same place. I wanted to let you know that I also have mixed feelings about people noticing my weight loss. I think mine are tied up with feeling added pressure, becouse now they'll be looking for more weight to come off, and if I don't lose more I'll have let them down. Which I guess makes as much sense as saying that they let me down by not being obese! http://www.diettalk.com/uub//tongue.gif
I remind myself that no one came and asked me to lose weight, I didn't decide to make someone else happy, it's only for me.
Please email me if you want to blab.

diamondgail 08-08-00, 06:57 PM I'm in the same boat as Billie Leigh - new at this and ready to loose some of this weight. I've started back on my teadmill but I haven't gotten my eating undercontrol. I am making a concious effort to eat more fruits & veggies. I just love carbs. and have to cut them out (or at least down!)
I'm looking forward to chatting with those who have the same problems, concerns and goals.

Diamondgail... welcome to diettalk and I hope you are going to find this place as wonderful and inspiring as I do. Just post when you want to or need to and I'm sure you'll hear back from lots of people.

Take care and hope to hear from both of you lots!

myt2bhapi 08-08-00, 10:22 PM Welcome to Billie and Diamondgail
You'll love it here. Sometimes I post alot and sometimes I just read. But I always come away with the feeling that I am not alone and that others care about me.
It's really neat to have people care about you who have never met you.
I wish you both the greatest success.

BillieLeigh 08-09-00, 01:59 PM Hi Dj and everyone at diettalk. I'm still hanging in there. I do appreciate all the posts they are now my "bread and butter" instead of the real thing. lol .I am drinking my water with lemon and it does go down alot better. I plan on going for a walk later today when it cools down. My motto for today is "I think I can" and I know I will with all you great posts, suggestions, and support. TTYL BillieLeigh

diamondgail 08-09-00, 07:56 PM Thanks to all who have welcomed me. My second favorite thing (food is the first) is my computer. I figure if I replace chatting with you folks instead of eating I will get good result. Seems to work for Billie Leigh - congratulations

BillieLeigh 08-10-00, 07:05 AM Hi diamondgail. I was glad to see your post. You hit it on the nail when you said using the computer has helped me. I live in the country and more or less bought my computer to see if I could learn to use one. I got bored playing games and I thought I would get on the net to see if I could find some poetry to copy (poetry is my passion!)I have needed to lose weight for several years. I lost a 5yr.old daughter in a car accident (yrs. ago)and then gave birth to another daughter a year later. I went from 108 to 200 and have since gained more. I really don't know how I ended up here at diettalk but I'm so glad I did. Not only has everyone given me a warm welcome , they have given me a new lease on life. For that I will ever be grateful. Love to all. BillieLeigh
