He refused to prescribe it to me. He said he wouldn't give his patients anything he wouldn't give his family. My doc told me that just like phen-phen (sp?) and all the rest, Meridia has serious side effects. I would research the drug extensively before I would take it. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. Love & Light, Willow ------------------ weiner 08-26-00, 02:25 PM Welcome to our one big happy DT family Frances. I also have concerns about all these pills that are out on the market for weight loss purposes. I don't take any myself. Make sure you find out all the info and side effects before deciding to take them. We are sure glad you came and we will certainly be here to support and encourage you all the way. ------------------ frances 09-08-00, 06:03 PM Hello I'm just getting caught up on reading post...been on vacation 10 days...visited Paris & London scared silly i'd gain back weight...I didn't gain a pound...I took my Meridia, chose meals carefully, walked, walked, drank my water and did the best I could......I did research Meridia very carefully ( I'm a nurse)and I trust my Dr. He checks me carefully and I'm doing great...the positives far out weigh the negatives, so far no negatives...Meridia isn't for everyone but I'm so grateful to my Dr.for giving me every option to lose this very unhealthy weight...Good Luck to All... Carolyn 09-23-00, 01:05 PM Hi Frances, I just joined up today, and read your posts. I asked my doctor for some help, and he (who is as skinny as a beanpole) thinks that I should be able to do this on my own. I have over 150# to lose...maybe he's right. Didn't we all chose to live this way & look this way, and only woke up today to say "why, I think I'll go on a diet. I can't seem to breath right today." Some people are simply moronic. If I could do this alone, why the heck haven't I done it before now??? I will have to resort to using an over-the-counter supplement to give me the beginning help that I need. I am envious of your doctor's consideration for our "disease", and his caring. Good luck on your endeavor. Take one day at a time and try not to beat yourself up if you should slip. I hope to keep returning here to get the support I need desparately. Carolyn :) boblin 09-23-00, 03:15 PM Hi Carolyn I can see your point and your doctors to most of the drugs they have out to lose weight they might work for some but are the side effects worth it. My doctor is also a bean post and i am 100 lbs over weight and i'm trying on my own it's one hell of a struggle but i'm on my way. I start my day with water and lemon juice it's suppose to work as a diuretic i don't really know but anything is worth a try. I try and drink a lot of water and try and get 20 min. of exercise in a day. i eat every two hours so i'm never hungry. And i spend a lot of time on this site there is a lot of support and motivation. So come join us in the chat room. See you lighter Boblin Originally posted by Carolyn: Hi Frances, I just joined up today, and read your posts. I posted a similar topic months ago and didn't get any reply. I did take Maridia for about a month. My bean pole doctor did the math and looked at me in surprise and said you DO meet the criteria. Meridia worked for me for about 2 weeks then it conflicted iwth another medication that I take daily and that was the end of that. It supressed my appetite and I had a little more energy - but got headaches and had trouble sleeping. Everyones body is different. Just be careful. Jennifer joanne 09-24-00, 10:47 PM I'm not saying I have anything against anyone trying to take what works for them but my biggest concern is What happens after you discontinue their use??? Weight gain???? Of course unless this is something you plan on taking for a long time. frances 09-25-00, 10:50 AM hi everybody...enjoyed reading all the feed back on thoughts about meridia...i've been taking it 2 mo.almost...absolutely no side effects..i average 1-2# a week loss...the only thing i can say is it makes me feel full on smaller amts. of food..just like my skinny friends...i always wondered how skinny's just stopped eating when they are full...for me feeling full was never a reason to stop eating until now...i think meridia helps your brain know when you have enough food and i think many of us are lacking that ability...i think this is a disease that needs treating..just like thyroid & diabetics...i'm not talking about emotional eating ect....that's a different problem...i'm talking about our bodies actually lacking something that causes over eating...anyway again no med is for everybody...i had a bad reaction to penicillin and stopped taking it...i wouldn't take something that caused me bad side effects....and as far as gaining all the weight back..from reading these bulletin boards that's a real problem no matter what you do to lose weight...i just hope i will have learned proper eating and readjusted my body to eat less...i intend to stay on mreidia 1 yr.and like everyone else i hope for the best...i think many drs. are afraid to prescribe meridia because of the phen phen scare and that's too bad because there is no comparison between the 2 meds...good luck to all of you no matter what you are doing to lose these very unhealthy lbs. again i encourage NO ONE TO TAKE MERIDIA IF THEY HAVE ANY KIND OF SIDE EFFECTS i wouldn't either.. frances 09-25-00, 11:00 AM carolyn doing all my research on rather to take meridia or not i did learn one thing all those over the counter drugs can be very dangerous and personally i wouldn't take them...they are unregulated and you don't have a dr. checking you regularly...i'd rather take something that's ben researched and my dr. prescribes...no matter, i wish you all the luck in the world losing weight is a BATTLE..I'LL BE WATCHING FOR YOUR POST.. sisnelly 09-27-00, 04:16 AM Frances; My doc perscribed a drug for me to help me lose weight, I took it for one month, it did help me get started, then I decided I didn't like being dependant on a drug to do this, I had over 100 lbs to lose. I didn't get a refill on my pills, when I went off of them I had emotional side effects, almost to the point of depression. I have not shared this before here at diet talk, but I know that even though I do not take the pills anymore, I am still losing at the same rate and I have just as much energy, and I am proud to say I am doing it not the pill. Please be careful. ------------------ Pulling Weeds! Sisnelly frances 09-27-00, 11:57 AM Hi Glad you are doing well on your own..keep up the good work... |
