View Full Version : Taking off this poundage
Hi Guys,
Here I am again. I have now lost 37 lbs. since Jan. I don't think it's terrific, but it's better than gaining. I keep hearing folks talking about having the stomach stapling surgery. I had it and it was a big painful waste of time and money. I lost at first, but it didn't accomplish anything. So unless it is a life-threatening case I wouldn't advise it.
Hello again,
I didn't know if anyone would be reading this. I was really surprised at the response. Went to my weekly weight watchers meeting tonight and I lose 7.2 lbs. This week that is a total of 44 lbs. It really feels good. Only 4 more lbs. to reach my first goal they set. 10% of you body weight. Again, thanks for all the encourgement. Sallypearl
Guys, I really appreciate all of your replys. I have had a really rough two weeks. Had a gain. 8.8lbs. Passed my kidney stone. School is really getting me down, and then I start hearing from all of you. (new messages) They came at a really low time for me. Also, thanks to the kind and loving words from Belinda, Weiner, Junie, and Wendy, I am back on track. I hope, no, I take that back, I will be telling you of a loss when I weigh in Monday night. You don't know how important and how much help all of you have been. It was hard to admit I had gotten off track. But I have heard no discourging words. Everyone has been so positive and up-lifting. Thanks and let me say I hope all of you are doing good. If there is anyway I can help you as much as you have helped me, just let me know. God Bless, and take care. Your diet buddy Sally (Sallypearl)
May 18, 2000, Here I am again. Since the last time I posted I have lost another 8 lbs. Still have a ways to go, but I am getting there. I really appreciate all the responses. We are all in this together and each success, no matter how small, is important. Keep up the good work, buddies, Post and let me know how you are doing. School is almost over (I am a teacher) only 3 more days. I am devoting the entire summer to me. My goal is to lose 35 lbs. I will have about 11 weeks to do this. Take care and again thanks for all the encouragement. Sallypearl

Pauline 04-15-00, 09:38 PM Well Sally, I personally think that your loss is wonderful. That's a tremendous amount of weight in a reasonable amount of time. What may I ask have you done to lose it? I am having such a hard time with my weight. It won't leave. It's kind of like my grown children that won't move out. (HaHaHa)So don't think that your accomplishment is nothing. It is a big deal. Keep up the good work. Keep doing whatever it is you are doing. It's working.
SunshineCol,Oh 04-15-00, 09:40 PM Well, I think 37 lbs is great in 3 months. You should be proud of yourself. How much more do you have to go? I have lost 77 lbs, and have 9 lbs to go till my 1st goal weight, and 14 lbs to go on my long term goal. I have a lot of toning to do though. I was over weight for many years, then I had a baby in Jan. So my tummy is pretty bad. But I'm crunching it. Good luck to ya, and be very proud of what you have done so far. Losing weight is not an easy thing. Boy do I know that. Hope to see a post from ya on what you still have to loose. Take care!
Stacey :-)
SSBelle 04-17-00, 02:18 AM Way to go SallyPearl; 37 pounds since Jan is great!
It is good to see you back in here posting. I haven't seen in much in the emails either. I hope all is well with you and yours. Good advise about the weight loss surgery from some one who has been there. I have know many folks who have had this operation and have said the same thing.
Sunshine
I don't think I know you but wanted to congratulate you on the 77 pounds lost. Hope the Baby was a healthy bundle of joy to you and your family. You mention 14 more points to go to your long term goal, does that mean you are 14 pounds from your goal, if so that is great. DO you have mini goals? I do my first goal is to get below 400. I am 14 pounds away from that mark and when I get there I also will have lost 77 pounds.
Pauline I am sorry to hear that your grown children will not leave just like your weight. Keep working on both and I bet it will happen. What weight loss program are you following? I am following ww 123.
Hope you all will be back in the boards and keep this section going strong.

I have been taking something called Vitalife for about 5 months. I have lost almost 20 pounds. It's no miracle, I work at it but Vitalife has made the difference for me. Mostly it reduces my appetite and gives me energy. It also helps you body burn fat instead of muscle. I bought it online for about $30.00 at VitaminCart.com. I am serious about losing weight and have tried many things but Vitalife has been the only thing that has ever really worked.
Good Luck,
Kay
stevekimj 04-17-00, 12:43 PM Sally, You are doing great! I started at 316 and am down 57lbs. So you CAN do it and it starts a little at a time. Pick somthing up that weighs about what you have lost and then think, "I have lost this much weight off my body. Wow!" I do this a lot whether I lose 2 lbs or more. It really brings it to view for you. You are doing great and keep up the good work! I look forward to reading more! You can do it, because you are worth it!!!!!
Deenyce 05-02-00, 06:47 PM Hi! I'm new to this group but i share the
same problem. I am currently weighing 280
pounds and i can't stop binging. i get these really intensive cravings late in the evening. I have tried many diets but they can't compete with my binge. i want to lose
130 pounds by at least next summer. any
suggestions!!!
Deenyce
Sally, Don't down play the wonderful progress you are making. 44 pounds is SO good and since January?? You ought to be jumping for joy. That is relatively fast, at least I think so. I've lost about 40, but it's been a lot slower than yours. So just keep up the WW...... sounds like it's working great for you.
And Deenyce, I think you can lose all you want to, but instead of looking ahead so far, just set smaller goals for yourself so you don't get too overwhelmed. Use this site to get motivation and encouragement and inspiration. You'll get all of that and more if you just keep coming back and posting and using the chat rooms. It's great here. You can do it..... I know you can. Just make up your mind that you are going to get healthy and then do it! When I stopped "dieting" and decided to make a life change and get healthy, my weigh started to come down and the binges were less frequent. It's amazing now how the amounts of foods that I eat just automatically fill me up more quickly than they ever did before. Keep coming back.... you'll never regret it.

nursered21 05-02-00, 10:40 PM oh sally, i commend you on your weight loss. like dj says, dont down play your weight loss. i think that is wonderful. as long as you keep up with it, think positive, and eat healthy and exercise. you too, will be posting on the goal board in no time. if you ever need to talk, email me at any time.

Deenyce 05-03-00, 08:24 PM [Thanks DJ for the encouragement! Well today i really felt bummed out because it feels as if its taking a lifetime or that its not even going to happen. i see all these magazine articles on how to lose weight in ten days or less and how to flatten that tummy and they all show these thin models, that look like they are toothpicks! Oh and is there any remedy to get rid of strech marks?
Confused,
Deenyce
Deenyce, Try not to look at those magazine articles. I know I am the "queen of bringing home magazines", but after I read it I realize it's a bunch of hype - just like all the skinny, picture perfect models in there. I think that instead of having the "candy free" isle in the grocery store they should have a "magazine free" isle so REAL women don't have to look at the ones on those covers..... LOL But it'll come off and it probably will come off slowly, but the key to that is that IT WILL COME OFF!! Slowly is better for you and will probably stay off more likely too. Maybe we should look for magazines that have articles about being patient?? :) hmmm... just something to think about. I know it's not one of my strong suits, that's for sure! Hope you're doing good......

Deenyce 05-15-00, 08:51 PM WHAT'S up ? guess what i lost 5 pounds in two weeks and all because of your advice DJ thanks a million! I realized that its not a diet but a change of life style but the only hard thing is finding tasty low-fat fast recipes because i have no time. i currently tried all these organic-nonfat foods and they tasted nasty. So do you have any ideas.
Thanks,
Deenyce
Hey Deenyce & Sally,
Try to think of it this way, You have a certain amount of money (calories) per day, just don't "spend" more than you have.
Also, when I get discouraged I think of this quote: " I may not be happy where I am today, but I thank God I'm not where I was".
Keep coming back, reading posts and doing some posting yourself. Someone will be here to help you along on your journey!!!
Enjoy the scenery!!!

Precious 05-16-00, 09:03 PM i wish i was skinny.
Hi Precious...... instead of wishing you were skinny, how about wishing to be healthy. Skinny doesn't really mean healthy. I'll bet that you have some wonderful qualities about you that have nothing to do with how much you weigh. I'm glad you found us and hope that you'll register and post more. There's lots of people here that are going through struggles and they are always more than willing to share and support..... hope to see you in chat, too. Take care and come back!

Wow,Deenyce! It is great to see you so pumped up and full of enthusiam! I know when I was beginning my "life change", I did a search on the internet and looked for low fat/healthy recipes that fit in with my likes and dislikes and that included preparation time, too. I got LOADS of good things from that. What I do when I know I'm going to be really busy is to have a "cooking day" and I make ahead healthy things for me to eat and freeze them. The Healthy Choice frozen dinners are good, too. It just takes some thought and some preparation ahead of time, but it'll save you in the long run. I still look for new and good things to try out. Are you drinking water and doing some kind of exercize? That's really important too....
I'm really happy for you and am wishing you continued success! Hope to hear from you again!

Deenyce 05-18-00, 06:43 PM Hi! girls. well this week i really through off my "eating good" month i feel really guilty that i haven't been eating healthy for the past couple of days because i thought i was doing so good that i decided to treat my success by eating "sweets" and then i went out of control. i feel so foolish because now i have to start all over again.and it seems that every week i start all over again because i let my self go when i either have no time to cook before class so i grab something on the go and it doesn't go down well plus it's fatting. I try to be strict about it but one minute i can be starving or craving something so bad and the next i am toyally in control. It's like a roller coaster ride. My schedule is so crammed that i live only on the moment.
any HOPE?
Thanks,
Deenyce
stevekimj 05-18-00, 10:27 PM As long as there's breath, there's hope. The ride will eventually slow down and you'll be in control agian. Just hang on to the healthy habit and re-commit everyday and you will win. Best!

Dragonlover 05-19-00, 10:11 AM Hi Guys! I am new to this site...but I need suggestions. Just a quick overview - I'm 24 and about 270lbs. I wasn't always overweight; as a teen I was 130lbs. I had my first child at 15 and got married. I didn't get to finish school; even though I was scholarship-bound and wanted to go to college. I was married 8 years when he decided to take off. He left me with 3 children and no money. Now I'm with a nice man and have another baby (unplanned) but my only option for income is to provide childcare at home as I can't afford daycare for mine. I have no family and can't afford a sitter to get out. my question is this: If weight loss is as much mental as physical, how can one ever lose weight with this amount of stress? For me, it's a never ending circle. If you can't make your problems go away, how can you make the weight go away? I feel like if I could lose weight it would give me a little hope that I could deal with life's other problem's. But because of the other problems, I can't seem to lose the weight. Any ideas?
First off, Sally.... you are doing great. Sorry to hear about the kidney stone. I've heard those are very painful. But I have to commend you on sticking with it and perservering with your weightloss. You'll get there, I have no doubts. And you're doing something wonderful for yourself by giving yourself the whole summer. I think that's awesome! Isn't it wonderful to get support just when you need it the most. The people here at diettalk have done that for me as well. It's a great place to come. Congrats on the weight loss. Hoping to hear from you lots more when school is out.

And Deenyce, sounds like you are having some up's and downs. there's always hope to reach your goals... you just have to hang in there. I know I have so many up's and downs, bu one thing I did was stop feeling guilty. There's nothing wrong about eating a little more than you wanted to. Somedays we just consume more calories than others. Guilt will set you back more than anything and if you've already started again, then it'll all even out in the long run. Maybe a little more planning would help you so that when things get really hectic (even more than usual) for you or you really crave something sweet, you have a plan to fall back on. That's why I keep my snack type things in a basket on my fridge.... so when I get a snack attack or a sweet attack, I already have a pre-measured amount there ready for me to grab. I make sure I sit down somewhere with it and enjoy it. That usually does it for me. If I need something else, I have other things that I can eat without sending my calories intake for the day sky high. Try walking, too.... that'll help you with your energy levels and help suppress you appetite, too not to mention burning off calories. You'll get there. Good to hear from you again!

Dragonlover, Glad to see you made your way to us. And I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time. I know how you feel.... it's so difficult to deal with weight when you emotional eat and stress eat. I know those are my worst things. The only thing I can tell you is that I try to take it only one day at a time. For me, looking ahead to all the pounds is an instant round of stress. I tell myself "I can do ANYTHING if only for one day". Sometimes I even have to break that down into meals, or snacks... one thing at a time. Planning is really important, too. If you have made up your mind to start getting healthy, then sit down and make a plan. Put it on paper, so it's not something you'll eventually forget. Start taking 15 minutes out of your day for walks and start drinking lots of water. Make each choice for your things that you eat a healthy one. Someone told me once that it's all about choices - healthy or unhealthy. Break it down and take it a chunk at a time and you'll definitely start to see changes in your life. Just start with small things and add to them as you go. Keep coming back here and posting. Sometimes when I don't want to eat something I come in here and post or see if there's anyone to chat with. That keeps me busy until the craving passes. There's a lot of support here.... hope to see more posts from you. Keep your chin up.. you can do this one day at a time.

ALL the answers are fantastic. Even if you have heard these suggestions before, they are tried and true! It has taken me since Easter to get back on track!!! I am starting to realize that sugar, (especially chocolate) has a chemical affect on me (altho I am not aware of it at then time). A little bit of it is ok, the only problem is, is that I don't seem to be able to control the amount. Easter set off a HUGE binge (chemical reaction) for me because of all the sugar and chocolate. (reminds me of quitting smoking) I have to Face it!!! I am an ADDICT!! Only, my drug of choice is sugar & choco. If I can just stay away from that first bite.....then I am usually ok. I have to look at it, (for now) as a DEADLY allergy!!!
------------------
LindaK boy do I know what you mean about the addiction. Chocolate is that way for me. I can't control myself. Friends and family think I'm nuts when I try to explain about that. Glad to hear that how you are working to overcome it.
Deenyce I agree with DJ. I binge alot. when I stress, or have a bad day, or get upset with someone. I've have learned to take it one moment at a time. I'm still at the point where one day at a time is too much. So I tell myself if I can make it the next say 30 minutes, then I'm okay. To be honest it doesn't always work, but I try to tell myself that I'm only human and I'll always have good and bad days. I think the really important thing that I needed to learn is not to punish myself or give up because of a bad day. So while I haven't lost alot (NOT YET ANYWAY!) I'm starting to feel better about myself. Maybe one of my favorite quotes will help on one of your bad days: Never let yesterday use up today.
Keep working on it. Glad to see you here.
Chelle
