I'm new to this website and just wanted to say hello. I think it's great the way you are all supporting each other. I've been overweight my whole life and have tried just about every diet that's going. I always seemed to put the weight back on though. In January, however, I decided enough was enough and instead of going on another diet I changed my eating lifestyle. I've switched to low fat foods and cooking. I've tried to take the pressure off by not setting any targets or time limits (this is a lifetime commitment)and if I feel like a little treat I have one - and then refuse to feel guilty about it. As I've lost 28 pounds so far it seems to be working. If anyone else is using low fat to lose weight I'd be happy to link up with them, and swap recipes. Also I'm from the UK - any other Brits out there?

Welcome to Diettalk!! I'm kind of new here, registered in May. I can't begin to tell you how much this site can help you in your weight loss journey. Everyone is extremely helpful and supportive. It's changed my whole attitude about my own weight loss problems and goals. I don't feel so alone and consumed by my binge and compulsive eating.

I believe with all my heart that you made a decision which will change your life when you decided to ditch the diets. I just discovered this myself and I know now that I'll NEVER put myself through another restrictive diet again. I'm so excited about this that I could write all day about it, but I won't. I just want to tell you that I believe you're on the right track and I wish you great success. Start to really believe that you'll reach your goal weight. Don't put a time limit on your weight loss. Just do the best you can each day and the weight will come off when your body is ready.

Jean welcome to our ever growing diettalk family. You will most certainly receive all the support you wish here and many many ideas. If you need a shoulder to cry on we are here to listen. If you are really really happy we most certainly want to hear that as well.

Hi there, Jean! Glad to see you found your way to us. This is a great place for support and suggestions and making new friends who understand what you are trying to achieve. There's a recipe board that has some healthy recipes on it. You might want to start by checking there. I really love to cook and like trying to make the things that we like healthy and there are ways to do that almost all the time. I'm doing the same type of program you are... I've made a commitment to get healthy in all areas of my life. I'm not a Brit, but lived in Wales for awhile as my husband is Welsh and a British citizen. He's immigrated to the states now and is getting used to all this American food.... and there's no Branston pickle here! LOL He misses that the most, I think! (that and the British beer... lol) Anyway, I hope to see more posts from you and maybe meet you in chat sometime too. E-mail anytime... take care and good luck.
