Hi Jan
Sorry, but I have never heard of anyone being put on a liquid diet by their doctor.
I have tried Slimfast myself a long time ago and I agree that it works for some, but I think that we have all got to find a way to lose weight that we can carry on with for the rest of our lives. I can't imagine living on shakes for the rest of my life. Just my opinion. Good luck in your weight loss journey though.

Hello
Can anyone tell me please if you can get put on a complete liquid diet by your Doctor (GP)?, my friend remembers seeing something on tv but not any details, so before I may or may not make a fool of myself at my GP's, I would appreciate any info you know.
Thank you.

Hei Jan, Me & my brother once were on a liquid diet with consent of the doctor. However, there was a time-limit, you were allowed to do this for about 14 days. After that, it takes too much from your body. Main goal was actually to purify the body (blood stream) with the nice side effect of loosing weight quickly. My brother lost10 kg in 2 weeks, I lost about 7 kg. Perhaps this sounds great, it did feel so at first, but I can assure you that those kg found their way back to me. Unfortunately, they brought over their 'family' as well. It was with Ahorn sirup = natural product of Candaian trees if I remember correctly. You're supposed to put a little ahorn, with a large glass of water & fresh lemon juice. Tastes good, but after 10 days you get really sick of drinking the same all the time, and you're longing for something to bite in. You can find this in most reform shops.
I agree with the things mentioned before that you'd better try something you can stick too a life time. Cause even when you do reach goal with a liquid diet, the moment you start eating again with your former eating habits, you'll get a relapse and worse . Believe me, I speak from experience.

I think you are referring to the optifast program. However I would not recommend it. I was on it for 6 weeks but my Dr wanted me to eat one meal per day of low fat protein and vegs. Others on the program were told not to eat the meal. After 6 weeks I became very sluggish, and while working stocking merchandise onto shelves I became very weak and faint. I also had to take a B complex shot each week that stung like the dickens. I remember the last time I was at the Doctor's office I had to lean up against the wall in order to stand up as I really felt like I was going to drop to the floor at any minute. Even though the Dr saw this he did nothing. I never went back and was off of the program the next day. Within a few days I was back to my old self again. That was over 10 years ago. Since then I have come to realize that eating healthy, drinking water, exercising and online support from all my diet buddies is what I need to lose weight.
