I'm starting a journal again. A little background for those who don't know me. I am 38. Dear wife to Guy and mom to two kids, Sarah age 8 and James age 4.

I started posting at DT in May 2001. I lost 70+ pound in 2001. I've been stagnant for around a month though. Not watching as carefully as I should and not pushing as hard as I would like to.

I haven't really fallen back much. Did buy a new scale that weighs ten pounds higher though, so I adjusted my weight <img src="graemlins/sigh.gif" border="0" alt="[sigh]" /> ....the # shouldn't matter though, as I know I'm on the right track.

As my buddy Thinlynn used to do, I am going to try my best to post my meals right here on this journal. So here goes:

Jan 14, 2002<br />oatmeal with 1/2 banana<br />1/2 grapefruit with 1 tsp honey<br />32 oz water<br />1 cup coffee

6 oz vanilla yogurt

1 can tuna on 2 slices 100% whole wheat bread<br />lettuce,onion and tomato<br />mustard<br />sliced carrots and cucumbers<br />1/2 apple<br />32 ounces water

12 oz caffiene free diet coke

dinner menu:<br />teriyaki grilled salmon<br />saffron rice<br />steamed asparagus<br />32 oz water<br />strawberry sorbet

<br />I walk 6 miles 6x weekly in the winter months. Sometimes I get slowed down by the fact that my little James is with me most of the time. I try to push him in a jogging stoller. "We run like the wind..." I try to gt out 3-4 times weekly alone though. At that time I do 6 miles in around 80 minutes. I do TaeBo too. 3 times weekly. Sunday is my leisure day.

During exercise I consume another 32 ounces of water. THis brings my total water to 128 ounces daily.

That is it for now. Everyone make the most of the day in front of you. It is always a chance to start fresh an renew.<br />Lindasue

You are awesome! Wow! That is great all that weight off your body. And your excercise wowza. You INSPIRE me. Thanks for sharing. Hey, just for my own information. How much does your 4 year old weigh, and how tall is he. I took my four year old son to the Doctor the other day and she said she has never seen a 4 year old as big as my (little guy.) She said he is not overweight, so anyway just curious. wanting to compare. (if you don't mind) And how do you do Teriyaki Salmon. I LOVE SALMON. You are going to be Svelte by Summer. <img src="redface.gif" border="0">

Hi everyone. It was time to come "Home" again. I love journals but ws too stretched to properly do one.

Bell, without you I wouldn't be where I am today. You too did awesome in 2001 even through some of the roughest times you will even experience in your life. You are the best.

Maximum, thanks for the boost. I attribute much of the success to the friends I have met along the way. If you don't enjoy the process, it will never work for you. Thats where I find success, in the everyday ups and downs. My James, 4 (5 on March 5) went for the longest time at 39lbs, but right now he is at 46lbs. and 44 inches tall. Sarah, my 8 is 95 lbs and 55 inches. There is a major difference in their eating patterns.

Teriyaki salmon. Take your fav cut of salmon and marinate it in bottled teriyaki marinade. I add a bit of brown sugar and a bit of garlic while marinating(depending on the brand..its hit or miss).....also good is substituting soysauce and lemon with a bit of brown sugar and garlic. I usually marinate for an hour or two and then throw the whole thing in a baking dish sprayed with PAM and bake at 375 degrees until your desired level of doneness. Maybe 35-45 minutes.

Sorry I bummed you out "89 to go" <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> You are doing so well. I was getting ready to come back to the windy city and look for you.

Lizzie, I have been reading up on you through your journal and all of your inspiring posts. You have everything where it needs to be to succeed. I am happy to have you in the middle of the bike trip on 100+ and also on the SA thread.

Thanks everyone. Will post todays stuff later.<br />Lindasue

Three cheers for Lindasue! So glad to see you starting a new journal. I think a lot of us have been a little "iffy" about our meal planning and staying on track over the holidays. I know I'm just now getting myself to WRITE DOWN every single thing I'm going to eat during the day, first thing in the morning.

This is going to be your year, sweetie! I can see it coming!!!

Hey Lindasue,<br /> So glad you've started a journal. It's good<br />to write down your day's report and gives us a <br />place to come and visit you.<br /> Liked seeing your menu. So many think they need<br />to starve to drop the pounds. I can't do that.<br />IT has to be a change in the lifestyle of eating<br />for me, not a DIET. We need to eat good stuff and<br />then exercise to get rid of the fat. It works.<br />You are living proof. <br /> You've done so good in 2001. I know you will be<br />where you want to be sometime during 2002. Just<br />hang in there. And I'm right in there with you.<br />I hope all things come together for good for you<br />in 2002. I know they will. Just believe that.

Sending Blessings your way!<br />Later,Rivergal

hi Babycakes. So glad to see you and that Anna is home. Yippee!!

Rivergal, I have found that i have to stay at a certain calorie level in order to lose weight. It is at around 1500-1600....anything below that and I will not lose. It is a lifelong journey. There is no other way to look at it. I don't deprive myself of anything. My tastes are changing though. I like simply prepared food ..before i was consuming heavily spiced and higher fat food and was always hungry.

As for the calorie calculators, to maintain my current weight I would have to consume 2300 calories daily, so when i eat at around 1500 i am still headed the right direction, and when you add in the exercise, it comes to approximately #2 weekly.

I have a tendency to eat fish alot, especially salmon. I now that it is a bit higher in fat than some fish. a 6 ounce portion ( which is probably too much..but I love it) has 10 gms fat in it...better than beef though, and we do eat at least one veggie/legume meal weekly. this past week it was pinto bean tostadas with home made salsa topped with lettuce, tomatoes and green onions and a bit of cheese. We also do the family dinner out at Subway now..at least 2 times weekly. The kids get their veggies that way without complaining. It is worth the $$ to see them eat veggies.

The thing about salmon, Lindasue, is that it contains those "good for you" Omega-3 fatty acids that contribute to a healthy heart!

Bob and I eat fish twice a week, and one of those nights is salmon. I cook mine differently from the way you prepare yours. I do mine in a 500-degree oven; 5 minutes skin-side up, and then 5 minutes skin-side down. (I always buy the fillets, not the steaks.) I tried your teriyaki marinade idea, and we liked that a lot. I also use the lemon-pepper marinade, which is very good. Sometimes, I just coat the salmon lightly with olive oil and a little salt and pepper.

When our supermarket has a sale on salmon, I buy a BUNCH of it and freeze it.

Our favorite dish to serve with the salmon is oriental rice-vermicelli, cooked until tender and then smothered in stir-fried onions, garlic, celery, and sweet red pepper, with a dash of soy sauce. Yummy!

OK---now I can't wait till Friday; our next Salmon day!

Hugs,<br />Lynn

Lynn, You aren't supposed to make me hungry. And you did. I think your cooking method is probably better. Quick cooking it makes the fish more tender....I tried it your way in a very hot skillet with olive oil and garlic and it works very well...my DH just seems to like it baked for some reason.

Now, what do you do with the other fish night? Whats your other favorite fish to cook?

Hi Linda Sue;<br />Just noticed you got your journal up, you always have such helpful comments on the bike100 day thing.<br />It's great to have such a good example on here of grat menus which are not 900 calories. I feel so bad when I read people's cooments who are trying to stay very low in calories & then beat them selves up when their bodies force them to eat more. I for one can't lose below 1300 to 1400 a day, and I'm only 5'1",<br />As for the salmon, it's about the best thing you could be eating because of the "good fat" thing. Unfortunately, it's not one of my favorite things, but the ways you and Lynn suggested to prepare it sound great, so that will be my goal this week. <br />Pat

Lindasue want a great tip on how to drain that fat out of your beef??? cook in in a colander in the microwave and watch that fat drip through.. Even the lean beef.. You'ld be surprised at how much fat drips out.. Then you can cook it in a frying pan to brown it afterwards.

<br />Today has been somewhat of a challenge with food. Theres no doubt about it. I am hungry. I don't know why. I was very active. Busy with stuff. Made a nice pot of veggie soup. baked breadsticks. Didn't eat too much. My body says its hungry though. Maybe I didn't get in enough water.

Mind over matter. i just need to focus on something else.

I've been thinking about it BK and was ready to chuck the whole thing out the window then I had a thought. I think that maybe I was getting too comfortable with the plan there, so maybe it is a good thing that I am writing it out again. I have only been showing 3-4 pound losses per month for the past couple months. Obviously to me I am eating a bit more than necessary. So this keeps it in my face. I want the rest off this year, so I am sticking to 1500-1600, upping the exercise and writing the food journal here. I have to.

Lindasue, 3-4 pounds lost a month is a pretty good month for me! As long as it is consistent it adds up quickly. If you have a plan that is working and not driving you crazy (in otherwords, it doesn't demand perfection for results) it is a pretty good plan in my books! You are doing a fabulous job...keep patting yourself on the back!!

Lindasue,<br />I try to think of food as little as possible and concentrate on other things. I know that if I posted everything I ate that would be too much for me. However I do write down in a large notebook everything I do eat. I keep the book on my dining room table so I can see it at all times. Eventually I will move it to my desk but right now it helps remind me to write things down.

I do come to the journal here all the time so I may see how others are working their program and get some motivation from them and YOU!!. Each and every person on here helps to keep me motivated and I draw support from them. How I am lucky to have found this board!!

You know I think its great that your eating so well, and losing. I know you think its slowly, but you know it counts, and it will stay off, and you'll be able to maintain. I'm still amazed with your water consumption, your so disciplined.

Chinadoll, it is a greek spinich pie. I like adding broccoli because I like broccoli. I'm sure you could get phyllo (filo) dough, but if not, I've seen recipes using a wonton wrappers. You can also cut out the mozarella and just use feta. It is a strong cheese though and my kids like it with the mild taste of mozerella added in. Put the word spanokopita in your search engine and hundreds of recipes will be at your fingertips. I hope you will try it.

LindaSue,

Thanks for my neat-o e-card. You are the best!<br />Just curious, when you go walking/running does DH watch the kids, or do you take James in the jog stroller when Sarah is at school? I work out when the kids are in school, but you have the cute lil one. I tried taking the kids along, but my son hates exercise *sigh* Laura comes with me sometimes, tho.

Keep up the good work. By the way, you are making my mouth water!! I am no longer reading your menus, just the rest of your journal, lol. Big hugs, Heather

01-24-02, 12:22 PM
Now Heather, your menus are just as good and healthy as mine. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

The exercise, we do it 2 ways. In the mornings i do taebo. before the kids are up usually. Today James was up and eating breakfst after sarah and hubby were gone for the day and I did my tapes then. The walking. 3 days weekly DH watches the kids. These are my bigger 6-8 mile days. The other 3 days I usually take james out in the jog stroller. these are my 3-4 mile days. My best work out days are obviously alone. That is why i added the taebo in. I needed more and couldn't get the intensity with James with me.

Linda, we are having a very gray week! Rain, rain, rain, my basement is flooding, AGAIN. They have fixed the foundation a lot but it still leaks. I know you were talking about another kind of gray, but I am proud of you for not letting it affect your eating. You did a great job.

I used to get up before the kids to workout when they were littler. School is a wonderful thing, lol! I admire your dedication. I think that shows that a person is really serious when a busy mom will trade sleep for exercise!

Do you get TB tapes from Billy's website, or do you just do ones you already have? I am getting sick of my tapes, lol. I want to get the one with the kids in it. Sending you a big hug, Heather

IT is going to be 65 today. We are going on a nice walk/run this morning if my little guy will sit in the jog stroller long enough. Highly unlikely that we will get past the 4 mile mark but I will try. Maybe we'll split it up with a snack in the middle. 2 hours is a long time to ask a 4yr old to sit. lol.... I'm such a slave driver....

Dear Slave driver, lol LindaSue, yes you are asking him to sit for a while, but you are also setting such a wonderful example of a parent being active, plus he has a special time alone with mom every day. I bet he will look back with very fond memories and not remember having a tired heinie from sitting, lol.

Everytime I eat healthfully, or my kids see me exercising or making good choices, I feel really good about it because I want them to look back and say, "Mom had some problems with her weight but she took control and turned it around and set a good example for us."

Enjoy your sunshine! It is cccccooooolllld here! That was my teeth chattering, lol. Sending you big hugs, Heather

I want to share something that happened to me..again. Ican't believe that this could hapen twice. I have had this one gal who was one of my first buddies at another site. She and I both had the same amount of weight to lose. We emailed daily, sometimes chatted and stuff like that. Shared recipes and triumphs, downfalls. She was a good motivator because she appeared to be losing weight at the same rate and sticking to the program,etc..i thought whe had it all pulled together.....until last night when I got this email from her.. She confessed that she was at her highest weight ever. I literally cried. I couldnt believe it. I thought, this is impossible. SHe has lost at least 70 lbs. Theres no way. She went on to say that she really hadn't been motivated the whole way through , hadn't lost any weight even though she said that she had, and that she was just looking for someone to talk to and that I was so attentive to things and responded daily.ggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! Or should I be crying or feeling sorry for her. I don't know. SHe obviously needs help.

01-29-02, 09:03 AM
Wow, Linda......I think some people hide behind the anonymity of the computer. But I guess the positive behind it is that she motivated YOU to lose. You ought to send back all the e-mails she sent to you that motivated you and tell her to read them for motivation, because they obviously worked! You are doing so great!!

You've had a row of hurtful things.... hope you don't let it get to you. You are such a positive influence on so many here. Just keep doing what you are doing..... it's working for you and you are helping so many others, too!

Have a great day!!!

HeatherC

Dear Linda,

So what is it about you that makes people not want to disappoint you, but be willing to lie to you?! Just kidding, it is her problem, of course, it is just strange becasue I know that it has happened before. I, for one, know how hard it is to admit that you have totally regained lost lbs. when you had done so well. You get addicted to the praise and the attention, and besides you are collossally disappointed in yourself that you have erased all your good work. But being honest with one's self is a huge part of losing weight. This is a hard path, but one that has a lot to teach us.

Anyway, the important thing is that you are not a fake, you are the 100% genuine, honest-to-gosh healthy losing guru-ess and we love you. Big hugs, Heather

joanne
01-29-02, 09:25 AM
Lindasue I wouldn't be hurt by this..Afterall she considers you a good friend and a very good one at that... Good enough that she looked forward to your emails as you are someone to talk to.. Someone she can trust in, someone who helped her through her days. And she obviously must have been a lonely person to confide in you to tell you things she may not have even told others.. NOT to mention she was your inspiration...Why look at you??? look at how far you've come.. And all with the help of your email buddy.. She may not have lost the weight herself but like Dj says she did inspire you and cheer you on...She did lie to you but at least she felt comfortable enough with you to admit she has not lost any... HUGS to you my friend...

Lindasue
01-29-02, 10:11 AM
But i guess it was a shock..

Heather, I didn't think it could happen again. ANd yes, I understand what you are saying. But still, she hadnt lost any of the weight, according to her letter. Its not like she lost and gained. SHe actually just gained.
I am working out a plan with her right now. Hopefully one that she can and willl use.

DH wants some beef. Hes been living in a land of chicken, slamon and beans. I havent cooked beef in forever. This is just a recipe with a chuck roast cooked in a crock pot with lite soy sauce, water, garlic, a bit of hot pepper flakes. It make sa yummy broth. We throw carrots, mushrooms and onions in while it is cooking to give it the feeling of a stew. Dont know that calories. I'll try to figure it out later.

Wow Lindasue! I understand your disappoinment, truly I do, but I do understand how it could happen. She was probably living for tomorrow, believing that eventually she would truly do all the things you two discussed. She probably finally realized her tomorrow was never coming and so decided to confess to you what she had really been doing.

I had a wonderful diet buddy last year...she only had a few pounds to lose and I had so many. When she would tell me how great she was doing, I was so embarrassed to have to admit to her that I screwed up AGAIN. Because I did shoot straight with her, she and I cut back on our emails, though we have remained dear friends.

I think you have a tender heart, so just understand where this woman may be coming from, but you also deserve respect of your time and friendship and that involves being truthful. Perhaps this is where you name your boundaries to her in a loving way.

Now to the good part...that beef you mentioned...what time is dinner??? LOL! Sounds delicious to me! Keep up the awesome work in your labor of love for you and your family!!!:rose:

Calories are averaging 1500 daily now that I am journalling them. When I wasn't journalling, i figure they were probably closer to 2500. That is proof that journalling can make a big difference. As I try a new meal or food item, I research the calories and fat of that item or items in the meal. It might take time to break down a big pot of soup or casserole,etc..but once I do it, I never have to take the time to do that item again. Then I keep them in a spiral book that also has my menus for the month in it. So I always have the calorie counts I need to know where I am at when planning my day. I have dinners scheduled 3-4 weeks in advance. Lunches I go week by week . Breakfast too.

Today is supposed to be another wonderful day weather wise. The birds are already singing away outside my window. If my stuffy nose doesnt get the better of me, it will be another day for a long long walk. Probably 6 miles. Taebo already complete for the day. 32 oz water gone so far. I am a happy camper this morning.

You are well organized. I have never thought of planning for meal so far in advance... That a great idea. Does it always turn out. And how long does it take you to walk 6 miles? You truly are doing great!

Lindasue
01-30-02, 11:55 AM
Are you sure you are ready for my very long winded answer maximum? Does it always turn out? Yes. THis may sound ridiculous, but in my freezer I have the things I ned for 4 weeks worth of meals. I am working on a 4 week rotating schedule. The family picks their favorite meals. These are worked into the schedule and i fill in the rest. As an item is used from the freezer or pantry, it is put on the shopping list and replaced. This allevites the"whats for dinner" problem and eliminates the take out food craze. In a given month there are 2-3 days we eat out. the other 28 days ar as follows:
My weekly menus include one kid favorite (also for them they get an extra kid type meal when I cook something wierd like that greek spinich meal) salmon, one legume meal, 2 chicken meals, one beef or pork and one totally veggie. THe current kid favs are spaghetti ravioli or lasagne, pizza and tacos, all of which can be made healthily. The salmon is either teriyaki or lemon/garlic/olive oil. Chicken is either jerk seasoned,BBQ or plain baked with leftovers for lunches for hubby. Sometimes creole or soup. Beans are usually black bean soup, a pasta dish that has white beans in it or pinto bean tostadas. We also throw garbanzoes in salad. Beef is either a roast or hamburgers, pork is tenderloin or another lean cut. There you have it, a months worth of menus.

Walking, another favorite topic....stick around the bike thread on 100+.. Generation 4 will be a walking tour of the USA...:)

6 miles = 80 minutes...just under a 13 minute mile pace. Yes it took months to gt to that point. Start out slooooooooooowly.

Dj, being that we are further south, we are enjoying the warmer weather. It is unusual none the less. Rain and up to 50 at least through Friday.

Linda, Now THAT is menu planning!! I plan ahead a little--a week at a time, and I do almost all the cooking for the week on Saturday. I make up some veggie crumbles (vegetarian ground beef substitute) and that becomes sloppy joes and taco filling. I make up a big pot of some legume soup-- navy bean, split pea, lentil or the like, and I hide lots of veggies in it: garlic, onion, carrot, celery, and tomatoes. Then I make various things in tortillas and pitas, lol, and wrap them all up and lunches are ready to go. I make up a huge salad and get some stir fry veggies ready, and viola, I'm ready for the week, I round things out with fresh fruits and veggies and bread from my breadmaker.

I think planning makes all the difference in feeding your family healthfully and cheaply! I think you may be the grand poobah meal planner, Linda! Love, Heather

Hi Lindasue, I hope you feel better. Wow, the 6 mile walk is impressive!!! Great meal plan too! I love to eat freshly baked bread but I don't eat it often so I don't buy it. There are 3 bakery shops near my home that bakes fresh bread (various kind) and everytime I walk past it, I want to buy it ... yummy! They bake white bread only so that's another reason why I don't want to eat it. When I think of bread, it's comes as a snack, not a meal ... so now when I see bread, I'll think of you!! :D

The weekend is officially here. The weather is turning cold here this evening and we will be back to the normal seasonal temperatures. I am headed out for my evening walk in a minute. I will enjoy the last bit of warm weather before it gets chilly again. I feel mellow and focused right now. I thought I was heading for trouble. The things I put in my shopping cart at the grocery store this afternoon. ...You would have shaken your head. :( I put them all back. Thank goodness I made it through a weak moment.

Maximum, your recipe was absolutely delicious. I substituted broth for the white wine though. Didnt have a drop of wine in the house. And one seving wa enough. Coupled with asparagus and I have apples baking in the oven right now for a late evening treat. Heavenly smells. Makes you want to curl up with a good book and snuggle. After my walk, that is what I intend on doing.

Have a wonderful evening my friends. Make the weekend the best ever. I may not be around much. I try to reserve weekends for family activities.

Linda sue, I've been reading a lot of your posts and I think it's so cool how you've lost so much weight. You're so strong, especially since you're home a lot with your little guy.

I'm at work all day so if I wanted to binge I can't because there isn't any food in my office. My worst time is the weekend when I'm home all day. I have to invent things to do to stay busy so I don't eat myself out of house and home. I end up biting my nails a lot. I guess when I get thin I'll have to work on that addiction next!

I do mostly computer work in my office, in fact I'm really the only one who knows how to fix and to operate the system (even my boss is confused), so a while back he asked me if it was possible for him to set it up, would I like to work from home a few days a week. At first I was excited, but then I thought about how detrimental it would be. I'd sleep all morning and eat all afternoon!

You're so strong and I'm so glad I met you. You've accomplished so much in such a short time. Thanks Lindasue!

Hi Lindasue,
Just out cruising and wanted to say hi. Wow I hope you are feeling better after having food poisoning. That has to be unpleasant. Gee your little one sick too!! Well hope you both get well soon.

I read about you planning menu's. I don't know how you keep so organized!! I am so impressed with your planning and a little jealous that I don't have those skills. You certainly inspire me to try.

You sure have done a tremendous job on your weight loss. That is so neat. You inspire us all to stay on program and loose weight and exercise. What a sweetie you are.

Well you have a fabulous weekend!!

Big hugs, LindaSue! I hope you are feeling all well soon, and little James too!! If there is something positive in this (and believe me it is hard to be positive about food poisoning) it is that only you and James ate the tainted food and Guy and Sarah won't be catching the stomach flu and getting sick as well!! ((HUGS)) I know you probably already know this, but this is a good time to wash James' hands extra well because it can be transmitted (rarely) by touch.

Just sending you healthy thoughts and prayers and hugs! Love, Heather

Thanks everyone. I am among the living again. ..barely. Not eating much though. I think that I am too worried about gettting sick again. No dairy for a week or so which sort of ruins my normal routine. I've become a yogurt junkie.

Water is the only thing Ive been up on. I was so scared of getting dehydrated.
James is better. PLaying as normal . Hubby called and said his one work buddy is out with that nasty stomach flu going around...I certainly hope he doesn't catch that and bring it home to the rest of us. That would be too much to handle right now. So far no one else has come down with anything here.

So what do you all eat when you are sick? I want something, but nothing sounds good. Heather are you out there? You always know that right things.

Well hopefully your immune system will have had its dose, and even if DH brings it home you won't catch it, Just a quick tip, They say that germs are passed through the hands, Remember also that you can get it through the laundry, When you are handling dirty clothes, sheets, and such, So make sure and wash your hands after handling laundry.

Lets see after I've been sick I usually Opt for Toast and tea, Sometimes I eat the toast burnt, I know that can add up calorie wise but You probably have a lot coming to you anyhow, Sometimes scrambled eggs, for protien, or a bit of peanut butter on the toast, sometimes dry cereal....Hope I didn't make you feel worse. But those are a few of mine.

Dear LindaSue,

You had it right with the water, as we say in the clinic all the time, "Push the fluids!" So that means easy things to digest, as well. Sooooo: how bout some yummy warm chicken soup with ginger which is supposed to soothe the savage tummy? Also sip peppermint herbal tea, also supposed to be good for upset tummies. Also liquid in any form: gatorade or clear fruit juices (avoid citrus, too acidic). You are right to go easy and not eat much. Soda crackers or plain toast are bland and will probably stay down well. Hope you feel better, sweets! Love, Heather

Hi Lindasue,
I am so glad that you and James are feeling better. I had food poisoning once and I literally thought I was going to die. It is miserable. Good thing is that it usually does not last long.
You did a great job with the fluids sweetie! Getting dehydrated would have only made things worse for you.
Take care of yourself.

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou. All this good advice and well wishes. You have all dragged me back to te functioning again. Still keeping my menu to the basic sick kind of foods. Today I will try chicken vegetable soup with rice. toast, applesause and jello. Can't go wrong there. The peppermint tea is great for a queasy stomach and so are the crackers. Still drinking lots of water too.
Not too worried about calories adding up. At least not this week.

It's hard to pick up again when you are away for awhile, but I am giving it a try this morning. Feeling better physically. The only thing not up to where it should be is the exercise part of my program. With 50 degree weather forcast for today, I should be able to get that in too. Still a bit thirsty here so I've already done 32 oz water. Yesterday was not a good water day.

Hope everyone had a good week here. I tried to look thru a few things but was so drained that i found it hard to stay awake at the computer.

Hi LindaSue! I am glad you are feeling better:rose: You are probably thirsty from getting a little dehydrated when you were so sick. You are smart to take it slow with getting back to the exercise. Listen to your body; it will tell you when you are back to being strong enough. It is hard to stop exercising when you are so used to it, but I try to think of it that I am not doing myself any favors if I force myself to workout when I am ill, or just barely over it.

I am jealous of your nice weather because my furnance is broken and I am cold! They needed strange parts and won't be able to fix it till next week. Brrr. Big hugs my dear friend! Love, Heather

Hey, babe, I think all that exercise deserves a new pair of sneaks! Maybe DH will give you a dollar a mile and you would have enough in a week, you are such a speed demon walker! :rose: Anyway, your feet do a lot for you, they deserve to be pampered. I have had foot problems in the past, and I asked the podiatrist if I should buy expensive shoes, and he said, no, buy cheap ones and replace them often, especially if you exercise.

Glad you are feeling better, my dear friend! You make me feel like snail in my walking compared to you, Miss Speedy Gonzales! Love, Heather

Maximum, I use good old fashion Quaker oats. Not the packets. I Cook it in the micro. Add either a banana chopped up or an apple chopped up or some raisins. If I need it sweeter a packet of splenda. It depends on my mood. Lately Ive been adding banana.

Walking. At this point I do a 12 minute mile. It is a good pace. When I started I couldnt even make it around the block. I literally added to my routine 1 block at a time. I got to know my neighbors and all the college babes one very well in those months. I calculated the distance on a track and also did it with
the pedometer and drove the route in the car to see if I was accurate.( I like to use the battlefield roads when not doing th track at the college here.) I think I started at a 30 minute mile.

When my james is with me I split it up into 4 mile walks. Give him a walkman and strap him,(now unwillingly) in the jog stroller and take off. He can handle the 50 minutes if he knows he willl get a treat out of it in the end. Yesterday his treat was to stop at his favorite train store in town.

Hope this helps.

:sweety: Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

Lindasue, I was just wondering how often you weigh in. Now that I KNOW I'm losing weight, I think I can wait longer to see. I was thinking of doing it every month because I know I should concentrate more on how my clothes fit and how I feel rather than what the scale says (can you tell I read Shape a lot?? :) ).

I guess in the begining I was afraid I might not be doing the right things to lose, but now I'm seeing results so I feel more assured.

Hope you have a sweet :x day!

Thanks for the oatmeal suggestions, I eat the same kind, and use to put some brown sugar in it, but didn't have any. So I was wondering what you add for flavor. the Banana is a great idea so is the apple. I tried some equal and cinnamon yesterday. I've never tried Splenda, is it better then equal?:D

Lindasue
02-14-02, 12:13 PM
Julie, I weigh once every 2 weeks, but was doing it once monthly for months. I think it is individual preference. The problem with the monthly routine is that sometimes it is hard to catch up if you slide a bit. That is why I switched back. If you choose monthly, maybe include measurements weekly to keep up with your progress.

Max, splenda. I like it better. I was using an excessive amount of nutrasweet. Iiwas downing a 2 liter diet coke daily along with sweetening coffee,etc..I was cranky and irratble, mean and fuzzy. I stopped drinking the diet soda (except for an occasional one out) and switched to splenda and the irratable side of me disappeared. I am more alert. Some people have problems with nutrasweet, I was one of them. On the occasion that I do sweeten, I use the splenda.

 :x Happy Valentines day!!:x

I'm also one of those people who cannot digest nutrasweet. I get massive headaches and queasiness. In fact, it's so acute that I can tell what gums have nutrasweet just by chewing it for a few seconds. Needless to say, I've never been a big fan of diet sodas because of my reaction.

I guess that's a good thing Julie. It took me a long time to break that habit of guzzling the diet soda. I'd been doing it for yers. I have never felt this good. I wish I'd have known it was the nutrasweet that was the culprit..

Friday. My daughter has off school today.....Don't know why. Teacher meetings probably. In other words, let's tack on another day and make this a 4 day weekend for the teachers....That's OK though. because I have never in my life met a teacher who didnt deserve a 4 day weekend. Our Teachers work so hard. Every teacher my daughter has had so far has been amazing in the ability to nurture and teach. So, if you are a teacher reading this, thanks for teaching:)

Today will be a day where we are out. We rarely get out during the week and my daughters birthday is coming up next Saturday. Have to plan and buy stuff for the big sleepover. Anyone want to come over and help next Saturday? IT will be fun, I promise.

It seems that whenever we have a three day or more weekend (meaning school holidays) we generally eat out way more than normal.....this is not a good thing ususally, but I am here to report that even after eating out at Pizza Hut...Subway and a steak house that I stayed completely on program and don't feel disgusting. Yahoo!!!!! I attribute it to eating alot of salad with FF dressing and little bits of food. I ordered the buffet at pizza hut and asked them to make a veggie supreme pizza for the buffet (it helps if you know the mgr) and she did. I ate 2 slices and a huge salad with ff ranch dressing. They also had fresh fruit. Subway was easy with a veggie sub, no dressing or mayo. The steak place I ordered the salad bar with has the best ff honey dijon salad dressing and I ate a grilled chicken breast light sized and a baked potato with salsa from the salad bar. Fresh fruit for dessert.

So I am not reporting menus for yesterday and today. Tomorrow is planned as follows:

32 oz water
oatmeal
banana

32 oz water
grapes
turkey
pita breaad
onion, tomato,lettuce
mayo/mustard
carrots

32 oz water
Baked chicken
brussel sprouts

baked apples

Lindasue, do you bring your own FF dressings to restaurants or do most places have their own? I guess I never thought to ask the servers.

Ever since I bought ff ranch, I've notice how great it is to eat salads--I can have a huge salad and only eat a little dinner and be full. Once you mix the salad together I really don't notice a difference. I never thought I'd get into them.

Hi Lindasue,
You make eating out sound so easy!! :). I never seem to make the right choices when i am eating out. But at least i am trying now.
As for the fat free dressings, i love Krafts LIGHT DONE RIGHT and will carry it to restaurants with me. I also love most chicken dishes but I find that chicken fixed in restaurants are usually not that healthy. Always fried or smothered in some sauce or stuffed with something loaded with fat grams. It doesn't stop me from eating it though,8-|
You have given me some grrrreat ideas on choosing wisely when eating out. Thank you!!

When I eat out, my resolve goes out the window, even if they have healthy choices I won't always choose them. I am getting better, though. We have a restaurant that we go to after church and I am starting to always get soup and salad there. I like the little packets of Kraft Ranch Light done Right. I like reading your journal because I get so many ideas for what to eat, and you always inspire me. Now I will try not to let eating out be an excuse to blow it. Big hugs, Heather

Julie, if I dont know the restaurant well, I bring my own dressing. It sounds tacky, but if they cant prove to me that their FF is really FF then I use my own. Our local Weis and Giant have individual packs of dressing at their salad bars. They sell the packets of dressing for .25 cents . I usually have some on hand if I am doing somewhere new. I also use it on baked potatoes instead of margerine.

Vickie, i agree with the Kraft dressing. Sometimes i prefer the light dressing over the totally FF. Kraft does an excellent job.....speaking of Kraft, check their website for neat stuff www.kraftfoods.com . Nutrition, meal planning , recipes. I get alot of my recipes from their site.

Heather, You had such a great weekend. I was envious. ..lol..not really, I had a good weekend too. I am so happy for you. Eating out shouldn't be scary or dreadful. We cant hide out all the time. Thats why we need to l earn how to eat out. I think we can break down almost any food to find out where we are in calories and fat.etc... And remember, you are going for fellowship with your friends when you go out. Focus on the good times. One more thing, it's only one meal.

SO, as i talk about only one meal here, I decided that the sleepover next saturday will be totally kids choice. Except for my healthier add ins. Fruit and pretzels. I'm making soft pretzels.

Hi. Sorry its been so long. In the middle of a sleepover. They are still sleeping and it is almost 9:30 am. Im the only one up in the house.

We ate Subway last night. Got the kids McDonalds. That was fine too. I must say that i made the best birthday cake. And I substituted the oil with applesauce and they didnt know the difference. Used strawberry fruit roll ups to make a soccerball design on the top. The girls are all soccer players. One 8 inch layer cake was split between 9 people. No left overs to worry about. I love it!!!

Vickie and bell thanks for stopping in. I seem to do well with staying OP when we go out. I dont know why. Maybe because we usually dont go out and if we do it is usually subway or somewhere that the food choices are easy.

I agree too Vickie to save the eating out for special occasions. What a great way to enjoy it. With your sweetie!!

Lindasue, thank you so much for stopping by my journal! Thanks for keeping track of me! I'm doing ok (even though I'm still confused which scale to weigh myself on!). So far I lost 11 pounds! I've lost 2 inches of my bust, 1 inch of my waist and 1/2 inch of my hips.

You know, it's strange. I was 190 for the longest time, then just last year I went up the last 10 pounds. But it seemed like those 10 pounds went right to my hips which has made all my skirts tighter and shorter (to accomodate my butt, everything moves up!). So you'd think logically the first 10 pounds to come off would be in my hips...you know, last in first out theory. I guess fat isn't very logical. :)

I'm glad you like acine di pepe too! My mom turned me on to it. I boil mine with 2 cups of broccoli and then add a TB of parmesan, 1 ts of olive oil & 2 ts of garlic powder. It's so filling for being so small!

Thanks again, Linda sue! Good luck to you as always!

yesterday I used a rigatoni. It definitely has a mustardy kind of taste. Im not sure how you could make it more mild unless you tried to find a mild brand of mustard.

I have this Grey Pouon Country Style Dijon....it's pretty tolerable I think. I used it for deviled eggs for a picnic last summer and I was able to eat some. I think I'll use that. It smells wonderful when I open the jar.

It's worth a try Julie. The taste of the recipe sort of reminds me of a stroganoff recipe with the sour cream. ANd Low fat sour cream works well. I didnt try FF because I have an aversion to FF products, except those naturally FF like fruit and veggies,etc.....I mean processed FF foods like sour cream and cheese.Yuck.

Anyway, everyone who reads this now knows that I am busy with Generation 4- A Journey Within. I have it in the 100+ forum and it starts up tomorrow. It will be a great journey. Looking at topics that effect everyone. Stuggles and triumphs and everything in between. Also, looking at the group at hand I anticipate alot of mischief and fun along the way. Everyone is welcome. It doesnt matter if you have 10 or 300 or more to lose. I want you to come on over and join in when you can.

I will post menus later. I am running late.

Yes Max it is. I know it is a higher in cal recipe. I usually stick lower, but yesterday it fit perfectly in with everything else. Divide it into 4 equal servings.

Lindasue...it is just awesome to see how you are hanging in with your food and exercise program and that you are still losing about 2 pounds a week. Way to go! You are an inspiration.

Thanks Artsy and 100togo. You all are too kind. You know all of you are inspirational to others. I read the journals and pull things from everyones journey and thats what got me where i am now. Everyone has wisdom to share. It is with the support of others that helps to make it a much nicer path to follow. SO with that said, go and make this your best day ever. :)

Lindasue, I noticed you said you drink a gallon of water a day. That's so great. I think I drink a half a gallon, but my metric conversions may be off a bit. I'll have to look at my date book to figure it out (I always wondered why they put that info in there!).

When I first came to DT you suggested I drink 1/2 ounce of water for every pound I weigh. So my question is, when you lose weight, do you lessen your water intake? Exp--I weighed 198 when I started at DT which means I should have drank 99--now I weigh 186 so by the rule I should be drinking 93.

I'm still drinking 96 for a good average, but sometimes my 96 feels too little! I guess when you get used to drinking it becomes second nature. And now when I go to the gym I throw a 16oz bottle in my bag so I end up drinking 112 on those days. I can't imagine lessening my intake.

What do you think?

See you in Gen 4--still forming my "baby steps" response so it won't be too long winded!!

Love,
Julie

Julie, I think that you should keep it at 1/2 your body weight. minimum...always room for more though. I haven't lowered my water intake, but I do exercise alot and that is my only beverage. Maybe I need more....hmmmm I feel a topic brewing in my head here...lol..as always. Let me so some more research on that one Julie.....Get back to you soon.

Lindasue, how do you make your baked apples? My Aunt Barbara used to make them all the time but she smothered them in butter and brown sugar. Just wondering, because I think that would make a good dessert for my mom to make on Sundays for the family dinner.

I love the new journey too. I can't wait to get online in the mornings just to see what we're going to talk about today! I keep printing out different threads to show my mom. I'm going to show her the one about perseverence tomorrow. This has all been so exciting. Thanks for getting me involved!

What's up, Lindasue? You're doing great with your food ... they sound yummy! Is the broccoli, spinach & feta pizza homemade? Too bad I can't find any feta cheese here!
