I'm new to SB, and looking for some input.

I've been on Atkins for almost a year and am finding that I'm just not used to all the carbs?

Has anyone else had trouble with depression and aggression when eating carbs. I'm sure it's a blood sugar thing, but I don't really understand it. It's definitely carb related.

hi randisue,
welcome to diettalk! are u diabetic? if u are, the atkins diet is probably not a good one for u. way too many carbs for someone who is trying to stabilize the blood sugar. i am diabetic and i am only allowed so many carbs a day. if i have more than i should my blood sugar goes way up and yes, i do find myself being more depressed, aggressive and even anxious! i believe it is glucose related.
i hope u can find the answer to your problem. i am sure someone in this community will be able to help u. good luck!

Hi.........

I have a question for anyone who might know? Is the "Sugar Buster" diet basically a low carb diet? I am getting so confused on all of these diets!

Or is the Sugar Buster the one that you can have plenty of the Brown carbs, such as brown rice, brown pastas etc?

Hope someone has some knowledge of the Sugar Buster. I would like to do a low carb diet, but nothing as extreme as Atkins. Any feed back will be appreciated.

Thank you!
Jo Ann Atkinson

I follow Atkins and Sugar Busters. I would say that ultimately thay are the same thing - except Atkins starts you out on a 'lifestyle correction' diet, to purge you of carb addictions (cravings).

The destination is the same (depending on an individual's unique tolerance level to carbohydrates) - eliminate simple carbs (sugars) and replacing with complex carbs (whole wheat/grain products) and protein.

The difference is that Atkins leads you through a step by step process to determine your ideal level of carb intake, whereas Sugar Busters provides a guideline of legal and non legal foods.

I began with Atkins Induction diet because I needed the correction and rapid weight loss of 20 carbs per day. But as I progress I will switch to CAD and SB because I'm not much of a person for counting things. I will also combat insulin resistance with more exercise as my body gains energy.

I'm sure your body just needs to adjust to the carbs you are eating now.

I have tried to take a lot of simple carbs out of my diet and tried to substitute them with complex carbs, which tend to slowly release the glucose in your bloodstream. Example, I try not to eat white bread but stick to pumpernickel as pumpernickel's sugar releases more slowly into the bloods stream than white bread.

I have a problem with my blood pressure fluctuating sometimes and watching what carbs I eat has really helped.

I would say no. IMHO the difference is...

low carb= reduces their total carb intake.
low GI= substitutes simple carbs for complex carbs.

IMHO, I don't think "you can have plenty" is correct. IMHO, having too many complex carbs is just as bad as having simple carbs.
