Well, I'm back on a diet again. I'm excited, I think it will work this time. I've been on my diet for one week. It's pretty much just a low cal diet, but I'm not really on any specific plan.

This is my first time writing a public journal about my diet. I'm hoping that it will help. :D

I'm weighing in once a week(every Tuesday morning). So far I lost two pounds.

I weigh 227 now, and I want to get down to 130 or 135. I think it's the right weight for me, we'll see when I get there. :D

I'm looking through clothes catalogs for inspiration, because when I finally reach my goal I'm going shopping! Lol I'm going to buy all those clothes I could never wear before.
I want to finally be able to wear a shirt that shows my mid-rift, to wear a two piece bikini and look good. I want to shock people who haven't seen me in a while and who probably didn't think I could do it, and I want to be healthier.

Sooooo, I'm going to keep a daily food journal of what I've eaten and how I'm doing, I'm going to try to work out at least four times a week, and I'm going to start drinking more water. :)
I'll write what I've eaten today tonight and calculate the calories. :D

Okay, I'm updating already. :D
I ate a about 3/4 can of spagetti-o's.
I'm suprised that I actually got full before finishing it. :D Yay, hopefully that means I'll be able to keep myself from eating to much.

Welcome to DT Journals. I joined in Nov and found this addicting ... I love checking my journal everyday to see my progress and read other inputs and journals. U'll find that you are not doing this alone and the encouragements keep you going. I love to read what you eat so go ahead and add that in your journal.

Rachel, I think you'll find that keeping a journal (good days & bad days) will help you a lot. It gives you a central place to check in and gives your friends a place to find you and cheer you on.
It sounds like you are 100% motivated! Hope to see you posting frequently.

Yay, responses! Thanks for responding guys, it's nice to know that people care. *tear*

Gee, I'm entergitic and hyper suddenly. Could it be the coffee I recently drank? Probably.

I have a journal on Fitday.com, but it's private, and I can already tell that having a public journal here will be a lot more helpful. :)

Instead of waiting untill the end of the day to update what I've eaten I'm going to write in updates I think.

I haven't eaten anything since the spagettie o's but I had a cup of instant coffee made with 1% milk. I don't like plain coffee that much so I put in so real cream and sweet-n-low I probably shouldn't have put the cream in it, but it made it taste really good.
I'll just have to be careful with what I eat the rest of the day. :)

The coffee with cream and milk, plus the spagettio's means I've eaten
428 cals total today, so I'll still be able to have a pretty good lunch and dinner. :)
I'll write more later. :D
God bless
-Rachel

I had an orange, and then I worked out! Yay for me. :)
I rode the stationary pick for 20 minutes and the little digital thing says I rode 3.5 miles.

Oh no, pzone commercial on tv! Does anyone else really want to try that? You know, Pizza Hut's new calzone thing. Oooooh, it looks so good. . . That's okay though, I'm not really hungry, so I'm not going to eat. :) *feels proud of self* he he

Thanks for responding Maximum. I am trying to drink water. I had a big glass while excercising, and I'm going to have more later. :D

The numbers of calories I've eaten today ---->585
Whick means that I have a lot of cals for dinner.

Ewwww, if you want an appeitite suppressent watch animal planet while the emergency doctors operate on a puppy. :(

Okay, I'm going to change the channel and get a cup of water. :)
I'll update after super.

02-06-02, 06:49 PM
he he he, glad I helped you burn some calories.

Well, I just had super, so here's my final calorie count for today(unless I decide to have some fruit later)
905

Wow, I didn't eat as much as I thought I did. Well, then I most likely will have some fruit later on. :)

Here's a complete list of what I've eaten today:

instant coffee w/cream, sweet n' low and milk

Almost a full can of Spagettios Plus with Calcium

1 medium orange

1 serving lean cusine skillet sensation

No wonder I have calories left, I didn't have 3 full meals. Okay, if I get hungry later I'll probably have a nuitragrain bar. :D
So I guess that wasn't my "Final calorie count". lol

Thanks for the support China_doll, Gwenzilla and Maximum :)

I fell asleep before I ate anything else last night, so that was my finale calorie count. I'm hungrier today though, unfortunately.

This is what I've had so far today:

1 cherry nutri grain bar

A little bit of fresh coconut

I'm going to work out later on today. I'll update later. :)

lol, no problem That's true, I'll be careful not to starve myself. I don't think I could if I tried though, lol. I think eating as little as I did yesterday was a one time thing. I can already tell I'm going to eat more calories today, and I've already calculated what I'm having for lunch and dinner, and I'll probably have a small snack.

lol, thanks. :D I am motivated, I hope I stay motivated. :)

Well, I just ate lunch, and I tried adding a picture to my signiture, you can see how well that worked out. :blah: I'll mess with it later.

My lunch:
Crepe(I think that's what it's called. It was one egg w/1 tbsp heavy whipping cream)
1 small piece of cheesecake
5 club crackers(reduced fat)

You know, I never noticed how many commercials have yummy looking food in them until I started my diet, lol. Maybe I should watch less tv. . .
he he

I just noticed, it says it's 6:17PM board time, but here it's only 1:22 PM. I live on the east coast, what time zone does the majority of people here live in?

Gwenzilla

Rachel I think the times shown on the posts is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

drazile
02-07-02, 08:01 PM
Thanks Gwenzilla. :) I think I finally figured out how to change it to my time through my porfile.

I had dinner, though since I'm still under the 1200 cal range I'm going to have half a tuna fish sandwhich later. :D

For dinner I had:
1 serving lean cusine skillet sensation(left over from last night)

I'm suprised I've been able to keep under or just over 1200 pounds. It seems easy right now because I just ate and I'm not hungry, but I remember earlier today when I almost gave in to the temptation to have a huge slice of cheese cake. Reading other peoples journals is definately helping. I read about people who lost 20 pounds and I think, Wow, that's a lot. What will I look like when I've lost twenty pounds?
I'm so glad I've found this board, it's my second day and already it's a huge help. :D

I'll update later. I haven't worked out yet, maybe I will in front of the tv at 9:00

I just had the last of the food I'm going to have today. It seems like I've eaten a lot, but the calories aren't that high. :)

I'm full, but the food commercials on tv are still tempting, lol.

Here's what I've had for super:

Tuna sandwhich w/ one can of tuna and the peice sourdough bread. Salad w/tomatoes and fat free Italian dressing

Here's a summary of everything I've eaten today:
1 nutrigrain bar
1 small piece of raw coconut
1 medium piece of crustless sugarfree cheesecake
1 egg
1 tbsp heavy whiping cream
7 reduce fat club crackers
1 piece pepridge farm sour dough bread
1 serving lean cusine Skillet Sensation
1 can starkist white tuna in water
5 cherry tomatoes, fat free Italian dressing
lettuce

Calories: 1217

I still haven't worked out. I'm going to at 10:00P.M.

PS Those food commercials are the pits. They know exactly when to put them on. Always when you're getting a little bit peckish. But we are strong, aren't we. We're not gonna fall for that. :ha:

lol, I'm glad someone agrees food commercials are evil. The one they've been showing lately that bothers me is the Hungry Boy tv dinners. I remember those, they taste like real fried chicken with chocolate pudding, and mashed patatoes, yummmm. he he
And a pizza commercial for Ci Ci's pizza, which is a pizza buffet resturaunt where you can have all you want for 3.50

Luckily, I live at home and my mom does the shoping, if I did the shopping I'd come home with all kinds of junk. :)

As to your question, I'm a senior in high school. I'm going to college in the fall to be come a teacher. :D

It'd be wonderful to wear all the things teenagers my age wear, things that show your midrifts, bikinis, things like that, lol. The idea of wearing something that shows my stomach sounds so strange, because the last time I could do that I was 6 years old, lol.
I live in Florida, and I'm going to attend college in Daytona, not that far from the beach. I can't wait to be able to go to the beach in a swim suit and feel great about how I look. :)

Thanks for the encouragement! Writing here has really helped alot. It's hard to believe I've only been a member 2 days. I've been posting like crazy. :D

Well, I finally worked out. I rode the statioinary bike(while watching tv) for
17 minutes and went 3.1miles
If I keep that up, or go even longer I should lose weight in no time! :flower:
Oh, and I drank lots of water today! :water: Yay!

ChinaDoll_888
02-08-02, 09:17 AM
That's great that you're drinking tons of water. For the first 2 months, I drank a cup of water every hour. Needless to say, I also made a lot of trips to the bathroom. But drinking lots of water is good for you 'cos I noticed that I stopped having headaches and I sleep better.

Florida huh, I better put on my shades then. My friend Gina (Walkerps) is also from Florida. It must be great to live there and not have cold and snow. Although the shovelling is a very good exercise. Actually I can't complain because this winter has been the mildest one with the least snow. As soon as they announced that it was official, we had a terrible snowstorm the next day. :D
Good job on the exercise. That, the water and good food choices will do the trick. Water BTW is also good for your skin.
Are you thinking of getting a piercing when you can show your belly button, or are piercings already out of style?
Keep it up and the temp. on the beach of Daytone will rise enormous, because you will look so hot.

I definately think you should watch less TV  You're making me hungry talking about the commercials!

I've noticed though that the more I read food labels and count calories, the more intelligent I feel when watching TV commercials. Like the Pizza Hut calzone thingie, you know people are going to order tons of those things, and they're going to eat one whole one and imagine it was just like eating a slice of pizza. I was watching a documentary about American Obesity, about how restaurant portions are tripple the size they were 50 years ago. People really don't know what they're eating!

I've only been posting on here for a week, but my willpower and motivation has been at full speed because of it. The hardest part has been passing by the Valentine's candy in the first isle of the grocery store. Why do they do that? Can't they put a huge display in the candy isle? They literally have it right inside the freaking front door! I saw those pink & red wrapped Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.....my favorite......:stop:

Anyway......good luck to you (and good luck to me as I'm sitting here craving chocolate!)

Oh how true it is. You know I was thinking about how freinds will suggest a new restraunt and they will always say "Oh, you should go there, They have HUGE portions. Or at a Superbowl party we went to, EVERYONE was belly aching about how Full they were from all the chips, dips, and finger foods, Literally people were laying with there pants undone, aching and groaning, but at Half time It was time for the burgers and dogs. WOLF, WOLF it went on and on, THen boy was everybody REALLY FULL now, but O the cheesecake and coffee, What the heck are we doing to ourselves, All I could do was sit back and watch , I did chose to partake that day, but I was aware of what was going on. And you'll see those commercials will start to become comical to you instead of appetizing. Like the one for BLAST OF BUTTER Popcorn.

Wow, it's great to see so many responses! Thanks guys. :)

ChinaDoll_888- It's great to know that water actually helps you sleep better. I have to drink bottled water here because our tap water has to much cholrine in it, but I'm trying to drink as much as I can. :)

noenoe- It's great to know that water is good for my skin.
Lol, no belly buttons aren't out, and I like the way they look, but I've heard they use a hollow needle, I'm not sure if I'm up for the pain. If I do get my belly button pierced, I'll probably have to drag my two best friends along and make them do it with me.
I have to piercings in one of my ears, and three in the other(my cartilidge). I think that's as brave as I get, and I only got the extra piercings because my best friends were getting theres done. When we went to get it done we called it a "bonding expierence" lol, my friend's grandmother called us idiots.
lol, I hope the temperature at the beach will rise.

balebis- lol, I know what you mean, there's a huge candy arch in our supermarket, and an even bigger Valentine's presentation in our Walmart. It was very hard to resist the urge to buy one of the 90 cent boxes of chocolates, but I managed to do it. :D
No one in my family will dare give me chocolate for v-day luckily, because they're all on diets too. he he
Good luck to you and your chocolate craving. Just concentrate on how great you're going to look when you reach your goal.

maximum- I went to a friends house to watch a movie, she got out the "Movie Butter" popcorn. It actually had a little squeeze pack of liquid butter to melt and put on top!
Lukily I had no superbowl party to go to. It was my mom's birthday so we all stayed home together, but we did order Chinese, which was a mistake. And of course we didn't get the little take out boxes of chinese, we were all hungry when ordering, so we got the big orders and ended up finishing it all that night, lol. Oh well, I'm recovering now. I've done well since then, and have made a vow to have no take out our fast food until my birthday in May. It's to easy to order the really good, but really bad for you stuff. :D

I had a nutrigrain bar for breakfast. I know people say you should have a big breakfast, but I'm never hungry in the morning. I'll update later. :)

balebis
02-08-02, 04:21 PM
Rachel--it looks like your mom and I share the same birthday!

I live in a city and have horrible tap water too (I even hate drinking it to take pills!) I bought one of those Brita pitcher filters. I think it's about 2 liters and you fill it up with tap water and it takes 2 or 3 minutes and you have fresh tasting water. I drink 3 32 oz bottles a day; the first I fill up at home, then the other two I fill up at work from my office's spring water cooler. To tell you the truth I can't tell the difference between the two types of water.

And I can't believe they sell popcorn with extra butter now! I live down the street from a theater, so I have been guilty of running to blockbuster and then stopping at the theater for popcorn on the way home. But butter in a squeeze pack of butter? Yuck..... can you just feel your arteries crying for help? :)

I guess I need to get off my butt and exercise more. Those ab energizer commercials are getting more and more tempting, even though my brain knows they are a bunch of crap!!!!

The ab energizer--is that that thing that eltronic zaps to your tummy to stimulate the muscles? I'm reading through my local clipper magazine (local coupons for local establishments--we get it monthly) and they have one called Fast Abs.

I saw a thing on TV about all these companys being sued by consumers who purchased them because they have serious burns on their bodies after use. So serious that medical attention was needed. Food for thought! I guess it just shows that eating better and exercising is really the only way. There's no easy way out!

Sherry, I'm glad you're motivated. :)

Those ab-energizer things always remind me of the machines people used to use a long time ago where they would strap a piece of material behind them and the machine would shake is so that they'd vibrate. It was the easy way to work out, of course, it didn't really work. he he

noenoe:

You mix the cream(unsweetened) with raw eggs, and then cook them. It pretty much tastes like an omelette, but you can make them sweet or spicy or add fruit. :)

I didn't update yesterday because we went to a used book store and bought some books, so I spent the whole day being lazy and reading. :)
Here's what I had yesterday:

Nutragrain bar
Healthy choice dinner
1 can white starkist tuna
2 peices whole grain bread
1 tbsp low fat mayo
salad w/fat free italian
crustless sugarfree cheese cake

So my total calorie count was 1260

It was a hard day, I was very hungry and everyone else is on the atkins diet, so I'm tempted to eat the bacon, cheese, eggs, and fattening salad dressings that they can eat but I can't! :(

noenoe- I don't drink milk that much, but I take vitamins daily and I try to eat foods that have calcium in them. This week I haven't eaten much fruit, but I do love fruit, and the week before I ate a lot. :) You're right though, I should be sure to work some in this week, and if I'm not getting enough calcium I'll start having milk with breakfast.
I love almost any kind of book. I have a long list of fave books which include The Outsiders, by S.E. Hilton, The Watchers by Dean Koontz, Secret of Dragon Holme, by John Peel, any book by Jenny Carroll(who also wrote the Princess Diaries under the pen name Meg Cabbot), some Sandra Brown and Cathrine Coulter books, A Time To Kill by John Grisham, A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L'Engle, all of the nightworld series by L.J. Smith, A Quest for a Maid and Someone Was Watching, and a few other books I can't think of right now, he he. :)

I think I'm going to do well on the diet today, my weigh in day is Tuesday, and I want good results! :D

I'm not working out today, I've decided that the weekends will be my rest days, and I'm going to try my best to work out on the bike monday-friday. I also want to start using the 5 pound arm weights.

Eek, I'm getting frusterated. With each day I seem to get hungrier instead of it getting easier! Yesterday I ate some things I shouldn't have. Luckily since what I ate was a lean cusine it wasn't that bad, but still annoying.
I feel hungry too often. I'm considering going on the Atkins diet because it would be easier, everyone else in my family is on it and that way the food I eat wouldn't tempt them and I wouldn't be temted by their food. But I want to wait a few days and make sure it's what I really want to do. Hopefully I'll stop feeling so tempted.

Tomorrow is my weekly weigh-in. I will have been on the diet for 2 weeks.

I haven't worked out today, I think I will during the shows tonight.

I've had a hamburger on 2 peices of whole grain bread, a nutrigrain bar, and a bite of quishe.

I haven't decided what I'm going to have for my third meal yet.
If I have time to get online I'll update later. :)

Hi D I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my journal. Your support is a big help.

I just looked at your last post. Don't give or give in. It has to be hard for you to be trying to diet one way while everyone else doing something else [kind of like my having to watch my sons eat what ever they want]. Maybe you should work a diet that is all your own. Kind of a combination of the Atkins diet and what your doing right now.

At least you know you've done well so far, and we're here to help any way we can:(

Hi. :)
I wasn't able to get here yesterday, but I weighed in.
I lost 2.5 pounds! yay! :D That means that in two weeks I've lost 4.5 pounds. :)

With school work I'm not going to have the time to list all my calories on here like I was doing, but I'm definately going to check in and let you know how my day was, and if I've lost anything.

Yesterday I didn't do great with eating, but I didn't do that bad either. The day before I thought I had done horrible with my eating until I calculated it and realized I was a little under 1200 calories, so I'm not that worried about how I did yesterday.

I've been drinking a lot of water, and now I actually get thirsty for it more. :) I'll update later with what I've eaten today. :D

2.5 lbs gone forever ! ! !

What an excellent result Rachel.
Thanks for the list of books/writers. I've printed it out for future reference. Still have a stack of books to read. Plus my magazines, I love magazines.
You are doing great with your food. BTW it is spelled quiche.
Have you decided already if you're going to switch to Atkins?
The hungry feeling you could curb by making sure you have protein at every meal. And when you feel hungry, drink a glass of water first. Sometimes we mistake thirst for hunger.
Good luck. Have a sweet day tomorrow.:rose:

Hi guys! I can't believe I've been away so long!
Shame on me!
Thank you so much to those of you who posted asking how I was, sorry I didn't check in! I didn't realize how much I missed this board until I came back to check in.
Well, here's what's new with me:

About 3 days after I stopped posting I switched to the Atkins diet(after three days of which I was on no diet at all). My mom and sister are doing it which really helps, because we all support each other.
I've gone off diet a couple of times(mostly when visiting my dad and his family because they don't know I'm on the diet, and on Easter), but I'm doing very well on the diet.
I haven't told my father's side of the family because I'm sure they believe that Atkins is unhealthy(I've heard them bash it before) and they'll tell me my kidneys will explode, lol.
I've read a lot about the myths and facts of the Atkins diet, and as far as I can determine, it is healthy, and I take vitamin supplements each day.

The best news is:
I've lost 10 pounds! Yay!
My wieght right now(if you check my signiture you'll see, is 219!)
I'm really excited about this.:D

Any way, I've missed you guys alot , and I plan to start posting again. I hope you'll all support my change of diet, especially since it's been working for me.
I hope to hear from you guys! I'm off to read some journals :D
God bless!

Drazile, so glad you're back!! You were greatly missed.

Hey, as long as the Atkins diet works go for it. I've heard good things about it. Personally I'd rather eat a healthy portion of all foods so I don't deprive myself of anything, but to each his own.

Congratulations on the 10 pound loss!! I started doing something really cool--every time I lose 10 pounds I buy 10 pounds of cat & dog food and donate it to the Humane League (I volunteer there). It's a selfless thing to do so I feel great, and the added bonus is that I'm leaving my 10 pounds at the door!

Good luck to you--I'll be checking in!

hiya balebis! :o Awww, I feel loved now! he he That sounds like a great way to celebrate a ten pound loss! I've never thought of doing anything like that.

All in all, today was a pretty good day. I didn't really excercise today, but I did swim with my friends. I had a pretty good day. For supper me and my sister cooked fake fried rice.
Rice has to many carbs, so in this recipie you use shredded califlower instead. It turned out great, and even my freind(who's not on a diet and is naturaly skinny) like it. We're planning on having it again this weekend. To give you an idea what's in it, here's the recipie:

"Faux Fried Rice
1/2 head of raw cauliflower, grated (had about 3.5 cups of grated, loosely packed cauliflower)
3 green onions, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 - 3 Tbsp. of low-sodium soy sauce
1/2 to 1 tsp. of garlic salt
3 eggs, beaten
Oil
Pork, chicken, or shrimp, cooked (optional)

In a wok or large pan, heat enough oil to cover bottom of pan. Fry minced garlic and white part of onions for approx. 1 min.
Add grated cauliflower and fry for approximately 5 min, stirring constantly. Add soy sauce, garlic salt, green onion tops,
and meat (optional) and stir until mixed. Push mixture to side of pan. Add more oil if necessary, and scramble eggs in empty
side of pan until done but still moist. Stir eggs into "rice" and remove from heat. Serves 3 as a side dish.

Note: The secret is to use raw cauliflower."

We're all out of bottled water, and the tap water isn't that great, but I've decided I don't want to wait until we go shopping this weekend, I'm going to start drinking tap water tomorrow.

Today when our best friend was over, we rented a movie. We got "Don't Say A Word" which I liked. My freind didn't care for it because she's not into thrillers.
Anyway, while we were watching the movie my friend asked if we had anything sweet, so I offered her my leftover Easter candy.
Ooooohhhh, reese's penut butter cups were calling my name, but I resisted! Yay for me!
God bless,
Rachel

Good for you with the Easter candy! Just a tip--I have horrible city water in my place so I have two Brita filters in my frig. I fill them up with tap and I get lovely clean water from it. I can't tell the difference between the filtered water & spring water. It will cut down on buying water, and you'll always have some around.

balebis- We used to have a brita filter, and it worked great. I want to get one again, it's definately cheaper than bottled water. :)

I had a good day today, I made sure I didn't eat to many carbs(I can only have 20), and I'm drinking water. :)

We had cubed steak and asparagus(sp?) for dinner, it was great. We breaded it with Atkins bake mix so it tasted just as good as always.
And this afternoon I excercised in our pool.
I tried making a suger free cheesecake that our best freind told us about, but I'm convinced she had the recipe wrong, lol. The ingrediants were one brick cream cheese, 1/3 cup lemon juice, and a tsp vanilla. The mix came out pretty bad(way to sour and soupy), but I tried to modify it until it tasted decent. I'm going to go try it in a sec.

I'm thinking about riding the stationary bike tomorrow. It was to hot today, even with the a/c on, but it may be cooler tomorrow.

I've been surfing the web for new recipes to try, and fond one for a deep dish pizza quiesh that everyone says is great, I'm planing on trying it this weekend. :)
God bless,
Rachel

I've found a lot of good recipes here at DT. I love Monicapink's spinach pie. I don't know how many carbs there are in it though. They probably make Atkins recipe books. That would be fun to try.

I found a great Atkins recipe database online yesterday. I can't wait to try all the new recipes. :)

I joined the Awesome Acountables thread in the diet buddy forum Tuesday(I think). It's great, everyone's really supportive. I've been posting pretty much the same thing I put in my journal there.

I had a great day today. We had the faux fried rice for dinner. I made a double batch this time. It took forever to grate all that califlower, but it was worth it. I haven't had fried rice(which I love) in so long that I can't tell the diffrence in the taste. Since that recipe was such a sucess I'm surfing online for more to try out.
I didn't excercise today, the pool was to cold to swim in. I'm planning on riding the stationary bike tomorrow. And, I'm trying to get back to drinking water! I must remember to count how much I drink tomorrow!

God bless,
Rachel

Hey Rachel, how was your weekend?
I've printed out the faux fried rice recipe. I'm going to try it soon. Actually, the cauliflower is already waiting in the fridge. :)
Just popping by to see how you're doing. Hope all is well.:spring:
