It is currently Feb 18th 2002 at its 12:48am EST.

I wont do it now but when I wake up I am going to weight myself and come back to this journel, post my weight and start logging my meals and exercise. I am almost in tears I am so happy I found this board :) My mission is to lose 20 pounds, I do need to lose more but I am going to do this 20 pounds at a time .. doesnt sound as bad as 120 :) ... till later today .........................

:laugh: Lee Anne, You're going to do great!!! Everyone here is so supportive, you'll love it. No one will be angry if you fall of your diet for a day. We just want you to suceed!

Starting a journal is a great way to begin. I started one 2 weeks ago and I'm doing very well. Remember to be honest and do your best, everything else will fall into place!

Ok I weighed myself and starting at:

300lbs

So far today I have only had a glass of milk.

Main problem for me is that I am not really a 'meal' eater .. will have dinner then tend to snack throughout the night .. have to try and change that.

To help with you evening snacking: drink lots of water. Like chinadoll told me, we sometimes mistake thirst for hunger. Once I finish my 1500 calories for the day I drink until my hunger pains go away.

I am actually walking to the store a bit later to pick up a couple of 4 litre bottles of water (cant stand the taste of tap water .. urrggg) .. :)

I know what you mean, I live in a city and have horrible tasting water! I bought one of those water filter pitchers. You just pour in tap water and in about 2 minutes you have fresh water. It tastes pretty good.

So far today I have had 2 salmon sandwiches and some grapes, went for a 15 speed walk (thought my hubby was gonna pass out LOL) ..

Bought 2 4 litre bottles of water, too full right now to drink any though :)

Welcome Lee Anne. Welcome, welcome, welcome.
Looks like your first day is going to end up in the books as a great one. Doing fine... It's always a bit difficult in the beginning to get adjusted to the whole healthy eating thing.
Great to have all that water at your disposal. Rule of thumb is you need to drink 1/2 oz. of water per lb of weight. That's gonna be a whole lot of bathroom brakes to begin with but your body does adjust to it.

Its 3:49am .. I had a slice of toast with cheese and a glass of milk, this diet is going to be tough till I can get to the grocery store. I decided for dinner I am making skinless/boneless chicken breast and chicken non-fried rice :D looking forward to dinner !!

Today so far:

dinner (I am so not a day eater :(

chicken breast .. skinless/bonless
chicken non fried rice
peas and carrots
5 twizzlers for dessert :D
1 small low fat banana muffin

2 glasses of water

finished today at 1060 calories ..

Gonna do a richard simmons tape at around 10 or 11 after my stomach settles down

Just finished 15 minutes of 'sweatin to the oldies one' .. got pooped out so I stopped, sweating like mad right now but feels good :) can tell I havent done these videos in a long time. The song 'wipe out' really gets me everytime .. lol

Well I discovered something about exercising .. that fact that I have no feeling in the back of my right leg really tires me out fast when I am trying to exercise .. I think I will buy a step perhaps or just do more speed walking but I am not saying I am going to stop doing the exercise videos its just not as easy as if was before the nerve damage .. but at least I am doing it !! Yiippeee for me !!

Day 3:

Its just after midnight and I'm having a glass of water .. not eating anything till I wake up (new rule starting now dang it !!) but gonna have to buy more ater .. lol
Have to go to my Dad's today so I dont know what I am having for dinner yet .. maybe more water .. hee

It is a good feeling to just make this decision and commitment, isn't it? Remember, take it one day at a time, maybe even one meal at a time. I have only been at it for two weeks, but I know now that I will stay with it. Remember, like LatinHips told me, don't get discouraged with a backslide, just pick up where you left off, and go on.(I had a boo-boo on Sunday):( ,
I have found this site so helpful. I know you can and will do it, something about putting it all out there for the world to see. The water is crucial, I am drinking 120-160 oz a day. I now think I can't live without that much!!

I try to follow a 12 hour rule. Dinner is probably my heaviest meal of the day so I like to let my body digest well. I try to wait 12 hours between dinner & breakfast. If I usually eat at 6:30pm and then I wake up and have breakfast around 7am that's just about right.

Plus, like china doll said, protein makes you less hungry. I usually get most of my protein with dinner so the night goes faster. And after cleaning up after dinner and doing household chores and trying to catch a few minutes of TV, I'm usually ambushed by Mr. Sandman around 10pm and I don't even think about food.

I don't even know you, but I'm proud of you for taking the steps you need to take to be a stronger, healthier you! You seem so pumped and motivated! I worry about your calorie intake, though. It takes about 1000 calories for you to just stay alive and breathe all day! I'm worried you might make your body think it is starving to death and shut down your metabolism. Can you fit in an extra 100 to 200 calories into your day? If it really bothers you to do it, walk an extra 20 minutes. I saw on one of your first posts that you are a milk-drinker: that is GOOD! I just finished reading a study by Finnish docs that dairy eaters/drinkers who got 4 servings a day lost an average of 6 more pounds in 6 months than their non-dairy fellow dieters. Apparently calcium plays a role in weight-loss. Just keep it low-fat, like skim-milk and non-fat yoghurt!

I'm not trying to do a low calorie count on purpose it just seems to be turning out that way .. the main reason is that we dont have a whole lot of 'healthy' foods here right now and I am trying to do what I can till shopping day. I have been looking throught the recipe forum on here and I am getting lots of ideas and they all look so good so by the time grocery day does get here (few more days till payday) I wont have a problem cramming in a few more healthy calories :)

Its now 8:38pm and am I now done dinner

My total calorie intake for today was 1177
I am going to do some exercise at around 11pm :lift:

I want it to stop raining so I can go for walk, its so nice and warm out for Febuary X-(

I have to go out today so I doubt I will be eating much till I get home later tonight but I know I will be doing lots of walking so thats alright.

I didnt get to do my exercises last evening like I said I would but I was also extremely tired so to be honest I didnt care :o

keep thinking, "one day at a time, one meal at a time". As you know already, I love the Low Carb diet. And believe me, I used to think it was impossible because I love my starches. But it has been the best thing for me. I feel good, I eat good, and after two weeks, I have more energy than I have had in years. Read Joanne's post: Low Carb Faq.......it's pretty good.
Counting calories seems to work great too, and it may be just as easy. I am just a carb junkie, one bite, and I want the whole bag...LOL. I think you are doing great counting calories, and I am not trying to sway you to a different plan, I just noticed in one of your posts, you mentioned that you seem to be doing low carb, without trying to. One thing I have noticed: So many of us are on different plans, and so many of us have been very successful.......I don't really think one is better than the other, I think it's just what fits you and your needs, and which one you know you can live with.

I just got home about an hour ago .. been on the go all day and I am so tired. Only walked total for about an hour but still it was an hour. I cant remember what my cal count for today was but I think it was 1200 and something.

Well got through another day :)

My calorie count for today is 720 .. not low on purpose just busy and honestly .. not hungry although I do have some popcorn on my mind .. heee

Went for a slow walk today for about an hour, was a little chilly out so I didnt go too far but will be doing lots of walking this coming week .. weather is suppose to get really nice :)

I am a bit nervous that Sunday is coming though, thats my first weight since I started this diet, I have a weird feeling like my weight will increase instead on decrease even though I know I have been good and exercising .. just that sub-consious failure feeling perhaps? Could be.

Don't worry, You will do great!! You have been exercising, and doing real good on your food. And if by chance you haven't lost by Sunday, you'll loose by next Sunday. :D

Well today is my first weigh in day but I wont be logging that till I wake up .. Its Sunday and I'm going to be lazy so I dont know what time that will be .. lol

yesterday (Saturday) I did 1340 calories and walked for an hour .. now I am very tired but of course it is also 5:30 in the morning so I would guess so 8-|

Its almost 3:00pm and I weighed myself about an hour ago, would have logged this earlier but hubby wanted something to eat .. lol

I lost 2 pounds :) went from 300 to 298 and I am so happy that I am celebrating with a tall glass of water .. hee
I was going to give myself a treat today but seems how I had that donut the other day I decided to give it another week and besides I dont really want anything sweet .. did I say that? :D

Hi again

Ok yesterday (Monday) I did 849 calories, was on the go all day cleaning and managed to squeeze in about 20 of exercise at which point I thought I would pass out from being on the go so much .. lol

dont have too much bottled water left but gonna buy 3 4 litre bottles on Thursday (should have enough till then)

I have also decided my first goof off day will be my birthday which is the middle of next month, hopefully by then I will be done about 5 pounds total, now THAT would be a birthday present :)

I also want to get some sort of walking exercise video this week as I think it would be better for me with my right leg the way it is but for now I am off to bed and gonna get ready to take on a new day ..

i hit that "post a reply" button with something in mind, but I haven't had enough caffiene this morning to know what the heck I'm doing.

Oh, yeah! Say, think about getting yourself a healthy birthday present! One of those water-filter pitchers would be real handy to have around, so you could "make" your own bottled water! I had one when we lived in a place with a questionable water supply. I used to boil a pot of water on the stove, let it cool, THEN filter it into a pitcher. I mean, it was REALLY questionable water. Tasted kind of flat after boiling it, but at least I knew it was safe, and I could add lime-juice to it to spruce it up.

You are doing great to keep trying to fit the exercise in. Any is better than none at all. But, watch that low cal intake, don't let yourself get too low. :) Just don't want you to get sick or drained.

Hi again

Well I will be out for the day later today (Thursday) will be doing a ton of walking and heck its just gonna be nice to be out .. was freezing cold today but its suppose to just be around -1c later so that will be just right :)

I have to admit this diet is going very well .. I made my hubby bacon and eggs today and it didnt even bother me, normally I would testing the bacon to make sure its cooked right :D.

Doing some grocery shopping later, its gonna be nice to get some food in here that doesnt have 4000 calories in it .. actually looking forward to getting some grapes .. I love grapes.

today for dinner I had 2 small chicken legs and some of my chicken non-fried rice and 2 glasses of water which I finished off so I need to buy more .. oh and had some jello light for dessert .. not bad for something with only 8 calories :D

Grapes are great. They can be pricey sometimes, but I always by a bunch when I go shopping.

One of my downfalls was what I liked to call "after dinner sweetness." Everynight I'd need a piece of chocolate after dinner to "finish" the meal (and 1 piece became 2 pieces, 2 became 3 and so on and so forth).

Grapes have really helped. They're sweet enough to satisfy my "after meal" need. It was funny, I was tired last night after work, gym and making dinner. My boyfriend was a sweetheart and did the dishes for me. When he was clearing the table he asked me if I wanted my grapes and a second later he laid the bowl of grapes on my placemat right where my dinner plate had been a second before. It's just strange when you realize that everyone else is noticing you new eating habits. He was right, I was going to go right to the frig to get them if he hadn't said if first!!

All you guys talking about Jell-O has made me want some. I think the last time I had any I was sick with a kidney infection and my mom came to stay with me and take care of me. It's one of those things like Ginger Ale; I just don't think of having it unless I'm sick! I'm going to make some after I get home today.

Well we went out today and what happened? we went to dinner, I had a plate of spaghetti and a cup of black tea .. then we went for a walk for about an hour and a half during which I sprained my right knee and now I am most unhappy X-(

we didnt do the shopping today so we will do it tomorrow and of yeah I am going to be buying grapes all right and maybe some more jello also :)

So Sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it's better today. Good job on your continued walking. Do you feel better since you have been doing it for a little while now? I feel so much better now than I did a few weeks ago and was just wondering if you see a difference also.

well its Saturday and I am sitting here trying very hard to get used to the natural keyboard I bought and drinking a glass of water also :)
my knee is feeling a bit better but it still tends to give out a bit when I walk too much so I am taking it easy today cause tomorrow I have to go out and help my dad do a few things.

today for dinner we are having turkey sandwiches .. I bought a turkey breast and its cooking right now and dang it smells gooooood !! I bought some whole wheat bread and I dont have mayo or anything like that on my turkey sandwich so it should be good .. is it dinner time yet? :) so far today I have had 2 non fat yogurt cups and a banana (finally did that shopping !! whew)

I did weigh myself today even though my weigh in is not till tomorrow but I am not reporting anything till then .. want to make sure it still says the same thing .. lol

293 .. I am convinced my scale is broken .. lol

so far today I have had a bowl of corn flakes with 1% milk and I have to go out but will be back to report more later tonight.

I am really enjoying following your progress, I think that getting started is the hardest because building habits are tough. It sounds like you are on the right track and we here at DT will be here to help in any way we can to help you stay on track. Right Everyone?????:coach: :D
I think journaling is a great way to go as it lets people in and allows others to get inspiration.
Keep up the great work and keep building on the positive. For me getting past the bariers by finding more reasons to move forward than to sit down is the key

Thanks everyone for the encouragment :) I keep saying that I am going to have a goof off day but when the day comes I just dont want to break my pattern, being on this forum has really helped alot

But when do you really start to feel like you have lost? I can tell cause my winter coat was a little looser and I can see it a bit in my face but how much do you lose before you look in the mirror and think 'wow' ? not in a hurry .. well yeah I am .. lol .. just looking so forward to that. When I came out of the hospital in 2000 I was 285 and I didnt notice it then either .. maybe 20 or so pounds? or I suppose it varies from person to person.

Ok here is my encouragment for the day .. just for fun I decided to try on a nightgown that I have NEVER worn because I couldnt get it past my hips, well I tried it on and actually got it past the hips this time !! ok it was still tight but heck I was in shock .. :)

today for dinner I am having boneless skinless chicken breast, white rice and carrots .. and I will most likely make muffins for dessert.
Have had 4 cups of water today and I am feeling a bit water logged :water:

YOU GO GIRL!!!!! That is a great start. What better place to notice it than your nightie?!! That will make you work even harder, I know it. I am so happy for you, it's inches not the weight that really matter, and you are seeing it already. Keep up the great work. :O)

Went for a bit of a walk today even though my knee is still hurting, 30 minute slow walk but still it was something. Had my rice stuffing for dinner, jello light, 2 no fat yogurts and a glass of water .. Now I am way full :)

I bought 8 more litres of water today so now I have 12 total, I have to admit to not drinking as much water as I should but it fills me up pretty good, I drink around 3 large glasses a day and its still better then when I was drinking none at all.

I still havent decided what I want to do for my birthday .. I have decided that I am not having a treat day till I reach my first goal which is to lose 20 pounds or get down to 280, only 13 more pounds :)

I think I will do the same, I am going to let myself have a treat (a sonic burger maybe :ex:) after I lose 20lbs. That is still 9.5 lbs away, but I can do it.
Sorry to hear about your knee still bothering you. Maybe it will get used to the workout soon, and be ok.
When do you weigh again? Friday? Can't wait to hear your progress.:)

my weigh in day is tomorrow for the 5 pound challenge but my official weigh in day is sunday ..

report for today: nothing to report .. lol

I am going downtown around 6pm to go for a nice long walk and to finally buy the exercise video I keep saying I am going to buy. I havent decided what to have for dinner yet .. sort of just feel like something lite like a couple of sandwiches or something like that, just one of those days I guess.

I have to do laundry tomorrow .. does that count as exercise? I think I should do a serious amount of housework also though so I should be busy

Well I got my walking video's finally and I managed to get the Leslie Sansone video set .. 3 video's 1, 2 and 3 mile walks and I cant wait to try them :) I was really surprized to find them and for $30 I was not going to pass it up.
did about 3 hours of walking tonight but found that my knee is still hurting and decided if its not any better within a week I am going to ask my doctor to do an xray cause I have a feeling I tore something and thats why its taking so long to heal .. I have had this sort of pain before so I am pretty positive thats what it is.
I admit to not eating much today but I was really not hungry, sort of drained cause I didnt sleep much last night perhaps thats why.

I just did the 1 mile video of walking away the pounds and it was great !! It is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for in an exercise video .. I did the whole 20 or so without stopping and man am I sweating but it feels good, I am now sitting and having a cold glass of water. I think I am worn out now .. I did laundry this afternoon also and I didnt expect to d the video but I just had to try it and I am glad I did. Now I have to think of what I am going to have for dinner :)

Ok I havent posted here in a few days cause my Dad is in the hospital, I havent done much of anything except look after his apt and the cat so my eating and exercise routines are a little messed up right now and I wont be doing a weigh for another week. I am still doing the 5 pound challenege that I signed up for though so thats good anyways. My knee is still hurting but not as much and today is my birthday so I am going out to buy myself something .. was thinking about a new knee perhaps =)

anyways I hope everyone is doing well and keep it up !!!

will post again in a few days when things get back to normal around here ...

I am sorry I haven't posted here in a few days, but for some reason, it's been hard to get to all of the things I need to do. I hope there is nothing serious going on with your Dad, I will keep ya'll in my prayers.
Glad your knee is feeling a little better, and Great job on the walking!! I have to say, I am impressed Girl.........You are doing great, what an inspiration you are!!

well my birthday is over and I am now back on my diet full time .. I was a bit off this week because of my dad being ill and such but getting it back together starting now. today (the 13th) I did an extreme amount of walking .. at least 5 hours worth and boy do my feet hurt !! I am going to grab myself a glass of water after I finish this post cause I am also so thirsty. my dad is going to be alright and I am hoping he will be out of the hospital later today which will make me feel so much better ..

well I am back so its high time I checked in on you. Sound like that knee might be an overuse injury. sleep with a pillow under your knees (if on your back) or Between them(if on your side). they say that iceing doesn't help after 24 hours but if you want that knee better here is something I did for my arm that worked great. : freeze some water in some disposable styrofoam cups and heat up some of those gel pads or get a hot water bottle. Peal back the cup halfway and massage it wherever you are having pain until it goes numb then put the heat on it ( not a hot pad I mean real wet heat) for ten minutes alternate 2-3 times. This sounds crazy but it really healed my arm that had some ligament dammage my physical therapist recommended it and After my arm got better I thought he was a genius. Know matter what you do do not walk if your knee hurts doing it rest and let it recover. Some liners in your shoes might help to as that cured my knee pain. Good luck I hope that knee is better in no time. I don't do the same type of excercise 2 days in a row as I have injured myself from overuse to many times. My knee is still bothering me but staying off it right now is not an option cause my dad is still in the hospital but I promised myself a week off it when he gets out !! As I said before my diet has been a bit 'off' since he has been in but I am back on track now and will stay that way .. just having a coffee right now and watching the 2 mile walk video of the leslie sansone series to see what I am in for .. I have done the 1 mile and I am looking forward to doing this video as soon as the knee is better, might watch the 3 mile also to see what its like.

I thin you are doing the most important things in you life right now. I hope your dad gets better and that knee of yours. last year I got all motivated and got on the precor at the gym everyday. after about 2 weeks my right knee started aching. It sidelined me for a month. I was pretty crushed about it so this time when I started the action stage I promised myself I would take breaks and stop the minute any joint started aching. before I would have been mad at myself for doing that. Great idea to keep watching the videos to stay motivated. when I eat out as I am sure you have to do with your dad and all I just choose the best I can and "live to fight another day" your going to stay on track I just know it. keep us posted and keep a smile on that pretty face of yours

Well I wasnt going to do a weigh in till next Sunday but what the heck .. I weighed in this morning at 292. I havent been drinking half as much water cause I am hardly home lately and the exercise has mostly been walking and just being busy busy busy. Today is now the 18th and I am still hopefull to reach the 5 pound challenge by the end of the month cause I only have another 2 pounds and the way I am on the go it shouldnt be much of a problem.

This has been a horrible 2 weeks :(
My Dad is still in the hospital and wow is my diet all messed up .. running around between my place, my dad's place and the hospital all the time has really got me screwed up .. I am not eating right, exercising right, drinking right and boy I dont feel right. I am worried about my dad and I am ticked off cause my diet has gone off kilter .. not overeating or anything like that just a few trips to McDonalds here and there :(

However I did manage to meet that 5 pound challenge for this month as today I weighed in at 290 and yes I should be happy but between the hospital and everything else I just cant get happy. am I depressing everyone yet? lol

Just thought I would post and let everyone and myself know that I have NOT givin up .. just off track right now.

LeAnne, alright first of all noone is depressed by your post infact I am amazed you lost a pound probably from all the worrying. I had a crazy day and ate out twice. guess what I managed to stay under 1200. I at at subway with a diet coke passed on the cookie and at burger king and had there new vegie sandwich a diet coke and small fry. still had 200 calories to burn so I had some veggie juice. You know I don't think you are off track at all and you can gripe if you want to cause this is your journal dangit so go right ahead and let it out if you need to. I think a lot of people on this board just try to paste a happy smile post even if they are cringin inside. If you need to talk feel free to pm me. Your schedual is tangled up......you will chear up when things settle down just hold the course and keep going. Life does that to all of us sometimes.
Take care sweetie you are doing great and keep posting so we know how things are going.

My Dad is suppose to be getting out of the hospital later today so I am tickled pink .. I am getting back to my diet habits slow but sure and things are not too bad right now. I weighed in over the weekend at 290 so thats 10 pounds gone since I started and I didnt think that was going to happen with all the things that have been going on .. I think I have had more walking and running around exercise in this month then I have had in the past year. When my dad gets home though I have to take some time and give my right knee some rest .. its still hurting from not being able to sit still for 5 minutes for the last 3 weeks so I am looking forward to that.
Anyways I gotta get some sleep .. gotta pick up daddy in the morning and lug him home .. LOL]

arggg I've gained 2 pounds BUT its still 8 pounds less then where I started so I dont feel so bad :)

I weighed in at 292 and I am going to get myself in the 5 pound challenge as soon as I finish posting here. I am not tracking my food intake like I was because I was finding myself becoming sort of hooked on how many less calories can eat today then I did yesterday sort of thing. I have been walking more as my knee is getting way better and I am going to do the 2 mile Leslie Sansone video as soon as I can get the TV (hub's is watching baseball 8-| )

Lee Anne Hey great on the 8 pounds you celebrate girl. sounds like the videos are working for you. be careful on the intake as last year I was careful about what I ate and excercised but evidently my calorie consumption went up when I excercised and I didn't lose a pound.

Can I be posting here any less lately? :( wow been busy but things are tapering off now so I am hoping to write more here then I have been.

Havent weighed myself in awhile but have been doing well, been doing the 'walk away the pounds' video's everyday (did the 2 mile today) but been alternating so I dont get bored and I give my muscles a bit of a rest every other day :) and is it just me or does Leslie Sansone look a bit like Celine Dion ?? lol

Increasing my water from zero (lately) to lots .. about 4 tall glasses a day which is more then it sounds.

Really do have to start posting here more often !! geesh ...

Ok first off I weighed myself today and I am now 288 and well I could be doing alot better but its still 12 pounds lost so far :)
I have been doing the walk away the pounds videos everyday alternating the 1 and 2 mile each day and even did the 3 mile last week and whew what a workout that was !!
The thing I am noticing is that my double chin is going away even though I didnt really have much of one to begin with but I can see and feel the little changes .. clothes are a bit looser and I am feeling better about myself all the time. Been drinking an average of 32 oz's of water a day (should be more I know) but I have been out so much I dont want to be peeing every 5 minutes
