JoAnnAtkinson 04-26-02, 09:13 AM Good Morning Calorie Counters! I do hope yesterday went well for ALL OF YOU!:)
My thought for today is: Are you looking forward to buying any new smaller size summer clothes?
I do hope there are a lot of you that have lost and are getting excited about buying some pretty new bright SMALLER summer clothes!
I know, personally, I have decided I am not buying any new clothes, until I can get at least 10-15 pounds off! :( So, I will continue to wear the rags I have until I lose weight. I just can't make myself spend money on bigger FAT CLOTHES!:c(
What are ya'lls plan for the summer FROCKS?
Jo Ann in TEXAS wearing RAGS for the summer!
Hoping I can buy some smaller clothes in the near future! Maybe for the Fall??
Lindasue 04-26-02, 09:24 AM JoAnn, you should make yourself feel good where you are now. Love your body where it is at and love the process of change that is happening. Live for today and go out and buy yourself something you feel great in. It will boost your esteem and make you feel like you can conquer the world. And you will!!!!
I bought new summer clothes this past week. I hate how the summer stuff was out in March here when the temps were cold. It is still chilly.
take care and have a great weekend!!Do something special for you...:x
turkeypaw21 04-26-02, 09:43 AM I know how you feel. I am in desperate need of pants. I tear mine to shreds sometimes because of the type work i do(I can't wear jeans), but I refuse to buy now only to wear for a month.
Keep looking to the future and let shopping for new clothes motivate you.

silvergirl 04-26-02, 10:07 AM lindasue ... great advice!
definitely looking forward to purchasing summer gear! it's going to be very exciting to get things that i probably wouldn't have even looked at last summer...
LindaSue, I know just what you mean about the stores rolling out all the summer stuff when the weather is still cold. I have spring fever to begin with, and they just make it worse! Sheesh, it just snowed here day before yesterday.
I am making clothes kind of a reward for each of my milestones in weight loss. When I get to 165 I am going to buy some stuff, and again at 150 (probably LOTS of stuff, since that will be the lowest I've been since highschool and I'll actually NEED it).
Right now though, I have 4 boxes of clothes I, um, outgrew. I weighed 165 when I wore them so I'm hoping 165 will get me back into them again. I am beginning to wonder though! I am loosing everywhere but my stomach, which is what needs to go away before I can get back into those things. Let's hope the next 17 lbs come all from that spot!
I sure had a rough day yesterday. I don't know if it was boredom or actual hunger or what. I ended up going about 200 calories over, which really isn't that bad, but not something I can afford to make a trend of. I got home from work and just couldn't quit eating. I think I am going to take a look at my refined carb intake and see what I can do to lower it a bit and see if that helps.
JoAnn, don't put off buying a new outfit! Don't get crazy with it of course, since you won't be wearing it for long, but just because you are carrying extra weight does NOT mean you don't deserve to feel good about yourself or look pretty. Our weight is not the be all, end all of our person as a whole.
Have a great day everyone!!

tads411 04-26-02, 11:15 AM Hi all,
Think i finally figured out how to get around on the site...lol. (thanks to mcmarto and my sister-n-law, lasa62). As for the topic of new clothes JoAnna, i'm w/ ya. I can't wait to be able to walk into a store and not go to the Plus size racks!!! I dread shopping now and pray i can be in a smaller size by this summer. Lindasue, i noticed our start weight is very similar and wondered how long it has taken you to get to 183. I'm 5'10 so 180 is my goal for now and it seems so farrrrrrrrrr awayyyyyyy! In highschool i was 160-170 and in a size 14/16 and i was happy w/ myself then. I do have a mini goal also to be in a size 18(in 20 now) by end of May. I'm going to be a counselor/bus driver @ a summer camp here and would love not to be so self-concious of my clothes and weight so i can enjoy myself. Anyway, we've been doing well and stayin under our calories everyday, I know its too soon to expect much change but I'm worried i'll get discouraged if i dont see some results by Monday. Hey, anyone know of a site to d/l a calorie calculator for desktop? I d/l one that was only a 3 day trial and was hoping there was a site out there where it was free. Hope you all have a great weekend. off to start a journal in hopes it will keep me on track.
Teri,
I have searched high and low for a decent calorie counting program and haven't found anything I liked yet. I've downloaded no less than six of them. They're expensive and the majority of them are complicated and a royal pain in the behind. I'm relatively computer literate (a computer science major in college) and I find them very hard to deal with. If anyone knows of a SIMPLE one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd like to know about it too.
If you've got an internet connection for the computer you want the program on, I highly recommend fitday.com. Very straightforward, and FREE. There is also Calorieking.com, but I can't give you much of a review on that one, having never tried it.
I get really impatient with dieting too. "Geeze! I've been low cal and exercising for three days now, where are my results??!!"
We have to keep in mind that we did not get fat overnight, and it's not going to go the other direction overnight either. We have two choices though. We can either choose to keep at our diet and gradually see results, or throw in the towel and watch ourselves get fatter. It really boils down to just that.
Have you thought of a mini goal? Maybe just five pounds at a time even. When you get the reward of having some easily attainable success, you tend to be more motivated to keep on keepin' on.
Good suggestions in theory, but believe me, I KNOW just how you feel about this journey being such a long one.

Hello All Calorie Counters,
I had a good another good day yesterday, I am going to treat myself today since I have been good all week. I went for a walk(25 mins) again last night, 2 nights in a row now. I hope I keep it up!!!
About new clothes....I waited until my old clothes were hanging on me before I bought smaller ones. Nobody could even tell I had lost weight until I started wearing clothes that fit. I think its probably a good idea to buy a few things each time you loose a size. I have a closet full of clothes that are too big now. I think I am going to get rid of all of them this weekend.
Jo Ann, you should get you something new for Spring/Summer and by Fall you will be buying smaller clothes!!!
Have a great day everybody.
Phisig985 04-26-02, 12:49 PM Hey All,
I am in the same position as you Deana. I have an entire closet full of clothes that used to fit. I have not bought anything new because I have all of these clothes from when I was buying up. Now that I am going down I have plenty of clothes to get me by. Once I get to a more managle weight I will buy newer clothes.
Lindasue 04-26-02, 01:10 PM Teri, Welcome. I started in earnest on this journey in May 2001. I've had some setbacks along the way and have been stuck in the 180s for a number of months now. Break it into small goals. I went 5 pounds at a time. You will get there.
maggymay07 04-26-02, 01:18 PM Hello all,
I am a newbie to this site, and I noticed Deana looking for a free calorie counter on the internet. I use www.nutrawatch.com and so far I found it to be pretty user friendly.
Good luck in your weight quest,
Marge
pebbles04511 04-26-02, 01:55 PM hi everyone!
i'm having the same problem with clothes!! it's even worse for me though, because i'm single again! so i hate going out in clothes that r baggy. i've finally gotten in most of my old clothes. i only have 3 pairs of shorts & one pair of jeans(bought them at a consignment shop for $12 & they're Guess) that fit decent & everything else is baggy & makes me look bigger! but i hate to buy too much new stuff & me still losing.:-/ but on the other hand i hate going out to try to meet people & wearing baggy stuff.
i have started exercising again, so i hope to lose some more. once i lose 10 more lbs,i'll have to buy some more shorts that fit i guess. consignment shops have some clothes at reasonable prices sometimes. but as far as shirts, i have plenty of them that i'll be able to wear, once i lose a little more!
:rose: janet
I think I must be one of the few females that isn't into clothes.8-| I am looking forward to being smaller so I can tuck in my shirts. But the idea of new clothing is not motivating to me at all. I hate spending money, so that probably is the reason why. And I never know what goes with what... and the concept of an "outfit" is totally foreign to me :o Most of the things I wear now, I will be wearing same style when I get to the size I want to be. Guess I am an old tomboy :beam:
JoAnnAtkinson 04-26-02, 02:05 PM to see some of you posting your clothes are getting loose on you!!!!!!!:) How wonderful that must feel!:D
I can remember years ago, I had that same feeling, but now everything is TIGHT.........oh so TIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!:c(
But, I am hoping, if I "KEEP ON TRUCKING", one day I will be able to announce my clothes are fitting loose, too! 8-|
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY THAT WILL BE!!!!!!!!!!:coach:
Jo Ann in TEXAS:rose:
Thanks Marge! That's an online one I hadn't seen.
I've got the online one taken care of, it's a stand alone program I'd like to have. Fitday.com works just fine for me.
Oh..and welcome to the forum!

littleitaly 04-26-02, 04:05 PM Deana-good point about getting fat overnight. i slowly gained over 10 lb the last year ,have been focusing on losing it 2 months and feel like it should be gone all ready.
JoAnn-i don’t want to buy newer smaller clothes i want to fit into my current wardrobe. i have many shorts and skirts for summer that USE TO FIT a year ago.:c( i have many really cute clothes that are still fashionable but are snug now. i refuse to buy bigger clothes that feel comfortable. i want a constant reminder that i did gain those 10 lbs (no point in having delusions!) and if i’m uncomfortable enough i’ll get tired of carrying it on my body and lose it. i’m all for shopping second hand stores if you want something but don’t expect to to remain your current weight.
mcmarto 04-26-02, 06:26 PM Hey counters!!!
I hope everyone is doing well!
In regards to clothes........................The past 7 or 8 years I barely purchased anything.......nothing too nice or fancy because I always felt that being overweight was going to be temporary!...Well it wasn't...I have been overweight now for close to 9 years!!!...And not dressing well either!
I look forward to the days when I will look great in outfits I feel I can only wear if I am thin!............But you know what???...Life's too short to be putting everything off until tomorrow!!!.......I am not saying I am running around in skimpy outfits or anything but I purchase nice pieces that I can mix and match...things I feel I look good and feel good in!
mcmarto...not a farto...
chiburbsgal 04-26-02, 09:16 PM Sheesh. I just lost the last post I sent. Here it goes again.
I can completely relate to not wanting to buy new clothes. I already have a huge closet full of things from size 6 up to 14. My "rock bottom moment" was when I decided I needed a new pair of pants for work and I couldn't slide my big rear side into a 14. I was so disgusted I left the store and the next day I started my exercise and eating plan.
Part of my motivation is trying to fit into those cute smaller clothes in my closet. I'm going to make due with what I have unless a special occasion comes up.
Deanna- for calorie counting, I go the low tech way and have a good calorie book and plug all the numbers into an excel spreadsheet. That way I can take the book with me wherever I go and I'll know what I'm getting myself into before I start eating.
JoAnn- Just keep plugging along. You'll get into those tiny clothes in no time!
luke awol 04-27-02, 12:38 AM I lost 10 inches off my waste in 8 months and three shirt sizes as well.. and it felt great. I recently bought a bunch new clothes.. in a store where they didn't charge EXTRA for my size! Such a great feeling. Yes, people don't realize you've lost weight until you get new clothes... well, realize how MUCH you've lost.
I'm looking forward to going down more sizes.
