I was just wondering if it is possible to lose weight by simply cutting out sugar. Does anyone know? Thank you!!

There is a whole diet plan surrounding that idea that you might want to check out... it's called Sugarbusters. Check out http://www.sugarbusters.com/ or http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters/

If you are a big sugar eater and you cut it from your diet you will lose weight unless you replace those calories with more from the other foods that you eat. Say you eat 3600 calories of sugar per week. Eliminate them and you will lose 1lb. per week. If, however you substitute those sugar calories with say 3600 calories of another food group, keep your activity level the same etc. then you will remain the same.

VERY good point, Babs. But I also find that when I eat equal calories a day in whole grains vs processed foods, I lose more eating whole foods. I wonder why that is?

Especially at this time of year, it's VERY hard to eat only whole foods.. http://www.diettalk.com/uub//frown.gif

Well Corinna I have found that most processed food as apposed to natural foods are high in salt. Unless you drink plenty of water to flush this salt out of your body you will retain the fluid caused by it and will not show a loss and possibly could even a gain. Whole foods are best but when you can't get them look for low salt products and drink your water everyday. Did you know for example that cheese holds seven times its weight in water?
