morning everyone....

I've been trying to read all the journals posted, and so far I feel like I know so many of you! It's nice to know we are not alone in so many of the struggles we have, weight being the least of our problems but causing the most anxiety!!!! I know for myself, so many of the things I've wanted to do, I haven't because of the weight. I couldn't!! Who am I kidding??!! Fear of being out in public, of speaking my mind or giving my opinion...so many things!! So it's nice to find people to talk to, that won't judge me because of some extra pounds...!!!
I want this to be the very last time I struggle to get the weight off. I've been thru it before, when I was so much heavier & I did it...boy, was I proud!! didn't I say NEVER AGAIN that time??
but things happen, the weight creeps back on, I ignored it & just got bigger & bigger...so now here I am...among friends!!!
But I've gotten to the point where food terrifies me. I've been on WW since 6/17, officially anyway & have only lost 5 lbs. I have been trying so hard to exercise faithfully every day, even started lifting weights every other day & just bought a bike which I have been riding (but oh that seat!! what a killer!!!) up hills even!!
Just being in control for a change, feels so much better!!!
I'm having a hard time still with the points, but I do try..must be my bad math getting in the way, and some of the things I make from scratch so that throws me off completely as I usually try to make guestimates!!
Figuring if I put down my thoughts, food intakes & exercises in a journal for all to see, that will keep my motivations high & hopefully allow me to help motivate others as well. So I'll start by telling a bit about myself & see how it goes from there:
recently moved here from downstate, yes, for a man!! we live with my son & his 2 sons & dog & cat. I lost my job when I moved so that caused me to gain the weight to begin with. that & not knowing a single person. the last time I moved I stayed within the same 2 mile radius so it was easy, this time, not so easy!! But being pretty shy to begin with it's hard for me to just knock on my neighbors doors & say "hi, I'm new!!". So I still don't know anyone, but I do wave & thankfully they wave back!!! ha ha!!!
I'll try & write in every day, noting what I've eaten & what exercises I've done & I'll continue to catch up on my journal reading of all you guys too!!! You've really made me want to do this with all my heart & hopefully continue it for the rest of my life...so thank you for that!!!

Hi and WELCOME TO DIETTALK....

First of all CONGRATS ON HAVING LOST THE FIVE GLORIOUS POUNDS OF BLUBBER .... and just a suggestion ... NEVER EVER SAY THE WORD ONLY .... when describing your successes. EVERY POUND LOST BRINGS YOU A POUND CLOSER TO YOUR WEIGHT LOSS GOAL.

Another suggestion .... Lizzie B hosts the Weight Watchers Chat in Scheduled Chat on Friday .... you will have the opportunity of meeting others like yourself who are using the WW program who will give you the additional support and helpful ideas to keep you going.

THIS IS SOMETHING WE CAN ALL DO ..... it doesn't matter the age, how much weight we're going to lose .... IT TAKES TIME TO SUCCEED ..... so give yourself the TIME TO SUCCEED. We are all well worth the time it TAKES TO LOSE SUCCESSFULLY so be PATIENT WITH YOURSELF.

Welcome again to Diettalk ..... and keep posting in your Journal; it really helps to see HOW FAR YOU WILL COME IN ATTAINING YOUR GOAL. Make it a great day. Always, Monica

CJ, thanks for the welcome! I enjoyed reading your journal & all the great suggestions you post even tho you're gonna cause me to spend some big bucks, I can tell!!!! especially that bike seat you mentioned!!! hee hee!!!

monica, you're absolutely right!! I am really not too concerned about the pound loss as I am in getting myself into a healthy lifestyle...it just seems a little discouraging sometimes not seeing a bigger loss...those darn scales!!! But I did take my measurements when I started...just haven't measured myself since!!! I will definitely try to stop by the WW & check it out!! You're journal has been so inspiring & I really enjoyed reading it!!

I would really really go with the biking shorts first
I like the seat but I found the shorts made much more of a difference for my kiester.:D

hi minnie! it's so true that we shouldn't have to hide away in fear because of our weight...it's so sad how often we end up doing that very thing!! but at least being in control of how we deal with it, sure helps alot!!!

Friday....

started w/Leslie Sansone's Step Aerobics...a short tape but very easy to do & very quick...I wore 2 lb weights on my wrists for the extra sweat power..also moved my step up to the intermediate level...much harder!!

decided not to ride my bike because of the pain coming from my groinal area because of that darn seat.

had lots of water, over a gallon, & a huge bowl of my cabbage stew w/black beans (which I love even tho nobody else does!!) and my usual all day coffee/1%milk.

my stepson came home about 11pm & he suggested I lower my bike seat saying that might be why I was having problems. so he lowered it & off we went for a moonlight ride together..which was nice!!! He leaves for the navy in 3 weeks...I'm gonna miss that kid!!!

When we returned I had a huge water & a bowl of my lowfat vanilla frozen yogurt concoction that I whip up in my ice cream maker. Not a good day for staying up to points on my food intake but our car broke down while grocery shopping so that kinda put a damper on my appetite for the day, just thinking about the expense!! Hopefully we can trade it for something else in better condition so we don't have to foot the bill...but in the meantime we are sharing 1 car between 3 people & my son starts his new job on monday (thank god) & he'll have to take that car....maybe that bike will come in handy after all!!! hee hee!!

I don't know where my head is at lately...but I completely forgot to post that I lifted my weights yesterday too!!! very important!! that might be why my right arm is aching today!! ha ha!!!
I just finished mowing the lawn, what a killer that was...a big hill & a sunny hot day. I don't think water has ever tasted so good!!!
anyways, wanted to add that little tidbit so I wouldn't forget!!

Hi Buji,
Welcome to DT and the Journals!!! Looks like you have already made the committment to get healthier and fitter. Super!!

That is the first step in our journey to being healthier. Five pounds is a lot of weight to lose and keep off. I get all excited when I lose even a pound!!! Whenever the scale goes down or even stays the same I celebrate. Not with food but some little thing I buy for me. Have to keep the motivation flowing!!

I have a stationary bike that was killing my butt so I put a fluffy soft towel on it and now I can ride for 40 minutes. I didn't start at 40 minutes though I started with 3 minutes. After 3 minutes I was so dizzy that I had to get off the bike. I kept at it and kept at it and finally I can do 40 minutes!!! Took me a few weeks but i did it.

Same with when I first started to walk I only walked 1/2 block!! Stayed with it and now I can walk a mile!! I was shocked the first time I walked a mile but oih so proud!!

I started out with Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds one mile and kept working at it until I could do the mile and use the weights!! Finally could do the one mile and now working on the two mile.

For me it has been a series of tiny steps until I worked up to big steps. The same with my WW program. I tried to do my diet alone but had no one to be accoutable to so I went back to my friend WW's. I joined online and don't go to meeting I come to DT and attend the evening scheduled chats and they serve as a meeting to me. I found all the support I need and all the motivation I need to succeed!! I joined Dec 30 and have lost 35 lbs. No that isn't fast but I don't want to lose fast. I did that before and regained my weight faster then I lost it!!

This is my last time I am ever going to have to lose weight. This time I am learning to change my lifestyle as well as losing weight!!
When I started I had to lose 140 lbs now I need to lose 105!! I will do it and I will keep it off.

I have a WWchat on FRiday nights at 9:00 est and hope you will stop by and give us a look!! I also have a challenge group called the Snow Angels. We set a goal of how much weight we want to lose by Dec 31.2002. Then we check in each day and post how we plan to set our gaols for that day!! Very motivational for all and help keeps us inspired to lose. We would like for you to come to the challenge forum and check us out!!

Then there is the ww 24 hour challenge group. The purpose of that challenge is to promise to stay on program for 24 hours. That is all you have to commit to. For some reason that helps me stay on program knowing I only have to do it for 24 hours. Each day is a new start. Before long you have stayed on program for a week then two weeks and so on. Very motivational!! You may find us in the ww challenge.

Good to have you aboard Buji!!!
Love and hugs,
Lizzie

Lizzie, thank you so much for that great post!!!! I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to lose it...again!!! If I hadn't gotten so lazy about it in the 1st place, & cocky, thinking I could do anything I wanted to & not gain it back, then I wouldn't have gained it back!!! but I caught it at the 1/2 way mark which is better than waiting till I gained it ALL back!!!
I know that it takes awhile for the weight (the true weight, not the water weight!) to come off & I think I have finally got it thru my thick skull that it also takes alot of hard work & a real effort. I've really gotten myself into the habit of exercising each & every day, no matter what, & that's a good feeling...at least it feels good AFTER I finish the workout, tho I still have to force myself sometimes to do it...those tapes are a real blessing, I agree!! there is no way I could afford a gym or even want to be in the gym atmosphere...ever!!! doing stuff w/the kids, like riding our bikes, rollerblading (my stepson uses my rollerblades so we gotta take turns!) or even just taking brisk walks really is alot of fun for me...it gives me a chance to pick on them, up close!!
I will check out those other groups you mentioned & the chat area too...just hope I can find them...I'm not to bright when it comes to the computer!!!
you have done so well & should be so proud of yourself!!! I hope I can do as well as you have, & I know with all the great people on DT I won't have any problem with that!!!!
take care!!!

I think I'm starting to lose track of my days!! I just wanted to post that before going to bed last night, since my pnly exercise yesterday was mowing the lawn, I did the LS 2 mile tape w/Florine Marks...she's the head of WW or something. Anyway, I found it to be a pretty easy tape but that Florine woman seemed to be having a real hard time lifting her legs!! I woulda thought she would have been a little more motivating in her attempts on being on leslie's video, but I give her credit anyway!! and I think it just made me work harder at it as well!! but I did feel better getting that lil bit of exercise in before nodding off for the night. It's incredible how just a few short weeks ago I never would've worried about getting my exercise in before the day's end!!!
today is my exercise/weight lifting day so I'll report back on later tonite.
I hope everybody has a great day, sticks to their plans, drinks their water & exercises...you are very worth it!!!! buji

Buji,

I have those tapes too.....have used them once...kinda hard with chickies underfoot, so I say I will wait until after they go to bed, but then I never do! I LOVE lifting weights! We have a great home gym and when I get a wild hair, I use it!:o

Thanks for the response to my journal! I went to walmart and was going to look for a bracelet (since my scale got turned to stones, I have lost 1 stone 1 lb) but totally forgot! Oh well, maybe on thursday after hubby gets paid!

Keep up the good work, and I will try to do my tape tonight too!:lift: I will do some lifting today some time!

Have a great day!

Hi Buji!

I just wanted to say I relate so much to things you have said. I lost a lot of weight (125 lbs) and gained almost all of it back over about 2 years. There is nothing more frustrating and demoralizing than working so hard and then throwing all your good work out the window. But I admire you so much because it takes a lot of courage to come back fighting. We can do this!

I also relate to what you said about your weight keeping you from taking advantage of all the opportunities available to you. There have been jobs I haven't tried for, men I suspected liked me but I was too shy to respond to, a million things I would have liked to do but I let my weight hold me back. Notice I say that it was ME doing it, not the weight. But no more. Now if I want to swim or wear shorts or ride on amusement park rides, I just do it. Baby steps, but important for me. :)

Congrats on your new job! I hope the car is fixed or replaced soon! Keep on riding and smiling :)
Love, Heather

Hello Buji~~ i am back from vacation now.
I agree with Heather that I too let the weight issues hold me back. i didnt want to wear shorts but i have been wearing them for about 2 yrs now but tank tops were anothewr issue cuz i was so self-conscious with my arms so now i wear them and i dont care what anyone thinks. i wear a bathing suit and go for walks and express myself. i was holding myself back not the weight although the weight did limit me in some things i just couldnt physically do, i was out of shape for simple things like walking or going upstairs and i was low on energy too. now i see a difference in how i feel and i have more energy and pride. it doesnt slow me down now.
well enjoy the day!

Jenny, I know how hard it is to get around doing the tapes w/all the folks running around here, telling me at the last minute what laundry they need for the next morning!! and this is at 11pm at night!! I try so hard to do the tuff stuff earlier on in the day just for that reason, sometimes it works, sometimes not! hee hee!!!
I'm so happy about your weight loss, a pound is a pound after all!! now about scales...I would really like to chuck mine out the window cause I do think they do more harm than good...but I have recently stopped weighing myself every day & now do it just once a week...right before my WW mtg, which is discouraging enuff if you ask me!! but that's another story!!!
I only have free weights 5 & 10lb & 2 & 5lb ankle weights for now, but maybe someday I'll make the investment in the REAL STUFF!!! yours sounds wonderful!!! keep me posted on how you're doing!!!

heather, I'm glad you're not letting anything stop you either...we're so much more important than a number on a scale but sometimes I know how hard it is to keep that thought in my head!! I wore shorts outside today for the 1st time in years...of course I had a huge t-shirt on over it, but still!! nobody has stopped the car to point & laugh at me yet, & I do wish I'd done a better job of shaving my legs but for now it was good enuff for me!! ha ha!!! baby steps, very important!! we need to be proud of ourselves & what we've accomplished and try not to let other people's opinions affect us in such negative ways. and if we stay on our plan & do what's right for us (which is the BIGGEST challenge of all!!) that's the beginning of our confidence building right there!! so every time I feel the need to have something I know I shouldn't I just try to keep that in mind...or I'll have it early enuff in the day to work it off!! as for the job, I'm still looking but hopefully 1 of these days I'll get lucky & find something...I sure could use the money!! as for men, I met my sweetie on-line, hard to beleive I know, but is was 1 of the best things that could have happened to me, so don't give up...there really are a few wonderful guys still out there, you just gotta weed em out!!!! ha ha!!!!! :D

take care!!!!! buji

Minnie, I think that's wonderful that you didn't let it stop you!!! I'm not fully there yet but each day does get a little easier...sometimes I still need to be forced into going places, but usually find that I'm glad I was pushed!!! next step will be wearing my shorts when I go to the store, instead of just out on the bike!! but, like heather said, baby steps!! then who knows!!??

have a great one!!! buji

Hi Buji.
i am a little late in welcoming you to diettalk but i would like to none the less.
our stats are quite similar. i started out around 195 and my original goal of 143 was met 2 years ago. i have just started trying to go lower and it is hard work.
i commend you on getting back on top of losing the weight. look at this way you have lost it once so you know that you can do it.
i look forward to watching your success continue.
hugs bell :)

Morning Buji! Welcome to DT!!! I moved here to Brooklyn recently (well, I guess NOT that recently anymore...last September) from out of state and it was the hardest transition I have EVER had to make. But if I can do it, you can. It just takes a LOT of time and patience.

I am proud of you for all your hard work! I've been trying to do the LS 3 mile lately. It is around 49 min. long, so maybe you would like that. I use free weights too, though I've not been consistent. You might want to check out a book from your library called Weight Training Made Easy by Joyce Vedral. It is great and you can do the stuff at home with your free weights. A bunch of folks are doing it together on CJ & Lisrey's Weight Challenge. You should come by if you want to know more. Also, you are welcome to join our Losin' It for Love Challenge...we are putting aside $$/canned food for the hungry in our towns for every pound we lose/gain. It's a great community of folks who really support each other all the time. Feel free to stop by! We are on Week 3, but you can join anytime.

Good luck this week!:rose: I'm glad you are here!

hi bell!! yeah, i sure do remember being in the 140's!! and still thinking I had alot more to lose!! but as hard as I tried, the body wouldn't budge so that must be my ideal weight or something?! I'm only 5'3" but my bones are pretty huge & I've always been pretty solid...but looking back on pics from that time, I can sure see how satisfied I shoulda been...but couldn't lose the big belly to save my life!!! been holding the darn thing in for as long as I can remember!!! hee hee!!! :D

chumlette, glad you stopped by! funny you mentioned that book as I have it on reserve from the library at this very moment!! have another book of hers which I love to read so I can't wait for this one to arrive!!
wow!! moving from another state must be even harder than just moving from within...at least I didn't have to take another driving test or any of that kinda stuff!! especially to a place like brooklyn (where I used to hang!!) where were you before?? I find it so much nicer up here than down in the city & was glad to get away from the faster pace. I love the farms too & seeing all the animals!! a big kid at heart, I know!!! your challenge sounds wonderful..I'll make sure I stop by & join!!!

Congrats on the new car! That will relieve some of the stress. It's very hard to get around here without a vehicle. Buses are nice, but only if they go where you live!

Good luck with your weigh in tonight!

buji
07-29-02, 03:28 PM
ain't that the truth!! the busses never seem to go where we be needing them to!!!

got everything done w/the car, just have to put on the plates & I'm good to go. even stopped on the way back & had my hair cut, nice & short, so much cooler!!!
of course, my sweetie loves to eat out so we just HAD to stop at a diner so he could have breakfast. I got myself some burnt rye toast (which came buttered even when I asked for no butter) which the lady was nice enough to take back & I put some mixed fruit jelly (1 sm pg) on both pcs. of toast. and coffee of course!!
now I'll go upstairs & do a video!!
boy, it's hot out there today.....

07-30-02, 12:51 AM
Hello~~ my hubby loves to go out for breakfast too. i also love rye toast but not burnt of course.LOL

congrats on the new car. it helps going from here to there.
well have a good nite!

buji
07-30-02, 10:18 AM
hi minnie!! you don't like it burnt??!! LOL!!! people don't beleive me when they see how burnt I really like it, esp. pizza!!!!

well I did the LS but only the 1 mile w/florine cause I had to race to the WW mtg...where I lost 1 more big lb..whoop de doo...can't seem to lose more than that a week...but I don't dare complain cause you know what happens then!!!

it was so hot yesterday, I drank gallons of water but for food had only:
coffee/milk 1% all day long
2 peaches
rye toast w/jelly
1/2 air popped & 1/2 micro butter lite (I felt like a treat!)

I think I really need to get some more food in here & there..

then I did 50 leg lifts w/10 lb weights
and the LS 2 mile w/florine

never got to ride my bike cause next thing we had thunder & lightning & rain

but I did watch a madonna grimes exercise video (love to preview!) & it looks do-able so I hope to try that soon!!! (notice I didn't say when...?)

and then I went to bed!!! felt like a long day!!!

hope everyone did well!!!!

chumlette

Buji,

:coach: ANOTHER POUND GONE FOREVER!!

How can you complain??? Sheesh! I know it gets frustrating one pound at a time, but at least it's not a pound in the wrong direction! Take your pounds where you get them!

I like burnt popcorn. Drives my hubby crazy! He hates the smell, and to make it worse, I like Onion salt on my popcorn!! Yummy!! Never had rye toast, but I like my toast soft. My hubby is a big one for diners and breakfast. I don't like to use that many points first thing in the morning!

Congrats again on the car! When the weather isn't so hot and yucky, I'll have to bring my bike out your way and ride with you. Won't fit in my mustang though! :)

Have a great day, and enjoy WATCHING that video until you're ready to DO it. Maybe you'll burn calories through osmosis!!

buji
07-30-02, 02:11 PM
hi staci!! I was hoping the energy I was using to watch it would burn something off!! oh if that were only true!!!

I could always get on my bike & meet you 1/2 way!! who needs cars when we have such strong legs, right?! except for those darn killer hills!! LOL!!

I'm thankful for the pound, honest I am, was just thinking about the last time I lost all the weight & it didn't seem to take as long...could be my imagination tho!!

I am the queen of burnt popcorn around here too!!! everybody screams YUCK & runs for the hills when they see me approaching the microwave!! I used to love putting tabasco & soy sauce on the air popped stuff, just never liked the wetness it left...I guess I could use cayenne pepper powder but I sure wish they made a powdered soy sauce...then I'd truly be in heaven!!!!

you are doing great. I can see that you are making real commitments and really going for it. I never thought of those tapes being so useful but now I can see that would be a goood thing. When I started really exercising I was 185 ( feb 2002) and I was so scared of people laughing at me that I would only do it at night or early in the morning. Now I am just who cares and eventually after so long even before I go the pounds off this far I just decided that I had enough weight on my shoulders.........didn't need any more....lol

I found that biking did more to build my leg muscles and burn cals than anything else I could stick to so I did those and rollerbladed ( which is a great workout) I will have to have a look at some videos as their is a used store in town.

What are the easiest step videos and I mean easy as I am not experienced and worried about the knees???????

And Darling there have been a few times I lost 2 pounds a week but honestly I never really could sneak off more than a pound. I will email you the link to my old journals and you can hear all about it...... WE take what we can get right????

It sounds like you know how to lose this weight as you have done it before. and you guys who have don't be hard on yourselves ............what about people like me who just couldn't stay motivated to lose more than 5 pounds a day before in their lives? Clearly you are ahead of the game for sure........but we live and learn.....

Buji I wanted to thank you again for the support in my journal....it really pulled me through a rough time....

buji
07-30-02, 05:44 PM
CJ, if I could help even a tiny bit, that makes me so happy...no better feeling in the world :D :D :D :D !
I'm really getting such a big kick out of riding the bike...I remember when I was a kid I had a big red shwinn that was so heavy, had no hand brakes & was incredibly hard to pedal, esp. up those hills!! I went everywhere on that thing long after other kids were getting those lightweight ones w/the hand brakes...I could come racing down a hill & just by turning my head slightly, could hear if there were cars coming in the intersection!!! scares me now to think of that...geez, I coulda been killed a thousand times over!!! I even went down steps on it!! I would give rides to kids all the day & they would be freakin out over how fast & how controlled I was....really makes me wanna do those things again...at least try riding w/no hands!! but I think the bike is really something I could do from now on, no matter what & my legs sure love the workout too!! it's nice knowing that for me, it will take time to burn this fat off, & that I'm not alone in trying...that helps alot!! and I truly believe that the muscle is just taking over where the fat used to be!!
even if I go thru 10 different plans till I find the right one for me, it will be worth it...that's another reason I keep reading your journals...gives me lots of ideas to try new things! and I've finally decided that it doesn't phase me 1 bit that the rest of my family doesn't eat like me; if they wanna continue to eat all the garbage & crap they can certainly learn to fix it themselves. I'm still gonna make all my goodies w/my veggies & my natural stuff & they can just keep their soggy sticky mac & cheeses & packaged deli meats!! I think I'm even going back to not eating meat (which I did also till I moved up here!!) but the only thing I will truly miss is really good hot dogs, with the skin that crunches!! yum!
but I'm definitely getting off the track here, rambling on & on!!

the easiest step I have ever seen or done is the leslie sansone step tape. the date on it says 1990 so it's not a new one, and I basically do both legs at the same time instead of following her 1 leg 1st then the other, cause I like to come out even...there is a warm up which is just putting the foot up on the step for awhile & later she has a few arm raises thrown in to keep the heart rate up, but it is easy to follow & she doesn't bounce all over the place, which I like...and the whole thing w/warm up & cool down is no more than 30 min!!

hi guys!!! oh these grape nut O things are good!!! I almost didn't buy them cause of how hard the regular grape nuts are, but these are very crispy & not hard at all!!!

isn't it a beautiful day!!!!!

I just went thru the vedral workout...1 of the books I have...still waiting for that book on hold from the library but this workout was pretty fun...cept for lunges...I just can't seem to do those darn things...it's like I can feel my knees giving out or something!? very weird!! but I did everything else & tried to modify the weights a bit cause she starts out very light...1,2 & 3 lb...went I am a little bit past that so for most of them I used the 5 & 10 lb weights instead..most, not all!! LOL!!! but I feel all jittery now so I guess I did a good job!!!

gonna ride my bike in just a little while & I already drank 1/2 gallon of water....whew!!!! gonna relax for a bit & read some journals...I always feel like I am way behind in the reading part & I have been trying to read them all, so please be patient with me you guys...just in case!!!

you are all so sweet anyway, so I know you'll be forgiving!!! ha ha!!! ok, gonna go read now!!! ta ta till later!!!

Hi Buji,

I wanted to stop by and say hello and thank you for your caring message.

I noticed in Vicki's journal you mentioned you like Chinese food (or I think you did .... lol gray hair means short term memory for me); if you would like I will be happy to share some recipes for Chinese food .... I love stir fry vegetables .... and what I love most is that I can overeat .... and not worry about calories ... because I stir fry in beef broth and everything tastes so good and has so few calories. Let me know and I will put it in your journal .... since being on my weight loss journey I have found I really enjoy preparing meals .....

Well I want to go and write in some other Journals .... and then I need to go and lay down again. Take care of yourself and make it a great day. As always, Monica

Hi Buji.

Been enjoying reading your jpurnal today, and learning about you. I swear it's going to take me forever to keep up with everyone here that I want to! lol It sure sounds as if you're doing a great job. You're working hard, and all that hard work is definitely going to pay off.

I noticed you said you don't like the gym atmosphere. Is there something in particular that bothers you? Believe me, I have turned around completely on that issue. We got a brand new YMCA in town a few years ago, and I remember thinking back then there was no way I would ever be able to drag myself in there. DH's factory provided a benefit to the employees and their families - they'd pay 50% of the Y cost, and then take a small weekly payroll deduction to cover the rest. It ended up costing us %.00 a week for a family membership. I had always wanted to try treadmilling....so one night DH and I went out to try it out. I swear I walked in that weight room, all my eyes saw were the fit people lifting weights, using the machines, and I was so intimidated I turned around and walked out after 5 minutes, drove home in tears cause I was so disappointed in myself. I mean, I was so worried about what others would think of my body, afraid they'd make judgements...Well, flash forward to 2 yrs later. I did go back, and now I absolutely love the place. I feel no shame in walking past anyone in there, waiting my turn for a machine I might want...I finally realized I had as much right to be there as anyone did. I made some friends, and now I'm a regular. I know this is probably far from your situation, but I just wanted to share it with you. Keep doing what is working so well for you.

Ok, there I go, getting long winded! lol I'm off, got a few more journals I want to get thru tonight.

monica, yes I love chinese!!! any recipes you have I will gladly accept!!! I am now using broth to saute things, even the veggie broth I was able to get in trader joe's before I moved, is good...I thought I would never part w/the oil & I still use it on occasion, but very little & I really don't notice too much of a difference....so thank you for offering!!!!

andree, I know what you mean...always something going on somewhere!!! but I guess if we were less busy we'd be more bored!! I thought it was about 4:30 when I looked up & saw it was 7:30 & nobody even complained about not being fed..not even sandi (my pooch!!) who of course got 1st priority!! LOL!!
so I threw some fishsticks & tater tots in the oven & my guys are happy as lil clams...but they know they gotta eat their salad 1st!!!

vickisue, how ya doin?! yeah, I think it's all the beauties I assume will be at the gym, and then me, that kinda throws me off a bit. I think I'll be working out at home w/my weights until I can build up some confidence to make my grand entrance!! a few yrs ago I signed up for raquetball which I really liked, so maybe I'll try that again to get in the swing of being around people again!! with me, you never know what I'll do next...I surprise myself sometimes even!!!! LOL!!!!! :D

I still didn't get out on the bike yet, but it's still early so as soon as these guys finish eating, I'm off!!! till later!!

Hi Buji! You are doing great, girlfriend! I work out at home too, not because I am embarrassed to be working out in front of anyone but because it is more convenient. But you would be surprised, most gyms are just ordinary looking people with a few lbs to lose too, sweating unattractively on the dreadmills and making goofy faces as they grunt with the weights, lol. I am lucky as I have a free employee-only gym I go to, about twice a week. The rest of the time I just sweat at home. :)

Oh--I wanted to tell you about the lunges. Most people do lunges wrong and hurt their knees. The trick is to do a BIG lunge, take a huge step so that your knee never goes over your foot, if that makes sense. Your back knee should almost touch the ground. You can lunge and grab onto a wall or chair to steady yourself if it takes a while to feel natural. I have bad knees but once a trainer showed me how to do it right, it no longer hurt my knee. So happy lunging :)

I am going lunge into some salmon and veggies now. Have a wonderful night! Love, Heather

Hi buji!!

I have enjoyed reading your journal this morning. You have a great attitude and that is the most important thing to help any of us get started in dieting, don't you think? You probably already know how I love cycling, so I am really happy when I read that someone else is interested in it too. Who knows, maybe we will get a club of biker girls going on this site! It would really be great to know others who ride their bikes and help each other with information of what is working for them and what isn't. I see that you are working out with weights, too. I want to get started on that after I get back from vacation (a cycling vacation, of course!). Are you using any video's to help guide you with the weights or are you sticking to books? Any advice on the better ones?

Cheers!
Linda

Good Morning Buji!

Heck, if I could join a gym, I would do it! I Love all the choices they have there, and the equipment wouldn't be messing up my house!

You are doing so great, keep up the good work! I did WW before I had my last baby, and lost well (30 lbs in 3 months) but she changed my metabolism, so now I have to do CAD. I really did like WW, and I recommend it to anyone!

Have a great day!:D :rose:

Heather, thank you for that suggestion...that could be exactly the problem! my knees don't seem to bother me any other time..I do squats all the time & keep my knees behind my toes so I do understand what you mean about that. I'm gonna give them a try & I'll let you know...I'm so excited already!! cause I know how great they are for the legs & butt & all that!!!
speaking of salmon, I bought 2 cans...any good suggestions on what to do with it besides mix it up w/relish & throw on wheat bread!??

hi bell! glad you popped in!! 1 of these days, after I get a job hopefully, I might just take the plunge & join a gym..it's the added expense I'm worried about too, not to mention all that nasty sweat on the equipment!!! LOL!!! But that's what a rag if for I guess!!!

hey linda!! yeah, this bike thing is really catching on!! I really enjoy it & hope I can be as addicted as you & CJ!!!
as for weight videos & stuff...I think what got me started was the rachel mclish IN SHAPE video...she goes slow & it's pretty easy..she explains things well & I don't find it overwhelming..other than that I've been looking thru the joyce vedral books, mostly from the library & just trying to build my own little routine. I have a long way to go I'm sure, but I also know how important it is, no matter what size we are, to start working those muscles...especially as we get older...so I just start small & add heavier weights as I go, if I can!! I don't wanna get to the point where I find it too hard & then quit...then I'll be back where I started from!!

hi LHOsmom! with all the boys in this house, I know they would love it if I went out & got one of those big machines...and maybe I will someday!! but then we'd all be fighting over it too!!! or I'd start hanging things from it!!!
I started w/WW but I do tend to veer off it a bit, mostly cause I don't eat alot og the processed foods & when I make my own stuff I don't know how to tally up the points!! too much math work for me. so basically I eat what I want to, what I know is healthy & stop when I'm not hungry anymore. I don't eat much meat anymore (I'm trying to cut it out totally, again!) so I do fill up on lots of veggies & fruits. and as unhealthy as I know it is, I still can't give up my caffeine or my cigarettes (I know!!!) but I have cut done alot on both!! everything in it's time I suppose!!

well, let me go read some journals & see how you all are doing on this lovely 1st day of august!!!

buji
08-01-02, 04:05 PM
well, I better post yesterday's day cause it will be tomorrow soon!!!

I took several short rides on the bike throughout the day...I really wanted to go back to "the hill" but when I got myself motivated, nobody wanted to go with me & the hill is past a cemetary so I wasn't gonna ride by there by myself...yeah, I'm a huge chicken!!!! not that the residents scare me, it's those that might be hanging out in there!!!

I also did 1 of the joyce vedral workouts...the long one that was supposed to be 32 min. but it took me alot longer!!! on the floor, off the floor, I was getting dizzy!!!!

and I did the LS Step aerobic video.

as for eating, well I had my 2 c of grape nut o's cereal
coffee/1% milk
2 peaches
a huge bowl of air popped popcorn
not too good I know...and I made my cabbage stew but ate the popcorn instead!!!
and water of course...over a gallon of that!!!!

now I have to go bake butter nut chewies for a mtg tonite & those things are outrageously good...but I won't have any...no idea what the others are bringing but I'll be good & have my frozen yogurt when I get home...

hope I catch ya all later guys.....have a great day!!!!

Hi
Just out roaming the journals and trying to catch up!! I loved readng about you and your shwinn!!!! I use to ride my bike all over town when I was a kid. Everyone else had speed bikes and I had my trusty no brand bike. I took all the little neighborhood kids a ride on my bike because they thought it was cool. I am surprised the mothers including mine didn't bar all of us from the bike.

I was giving my sis a ride on the handle bars and I hit a rock and threw her off in front of me and i rode over her!!! I was horrified at what I had done and she was laughing her butt off. Well i finally saw the humor in it and we laughed about it and still do all these years later!! Lots of funny bike stories!!

Now I have a stationary bike and do about 40 minutes on it 3 times a week. I am now ready to buy a new bike and start riding outside again!! I love to ride bikes!!!

About that salmon. Have you ever put some cracker ground up and an egg in it and made salmon patties?? I like it that way. My dad use to make a huge pot of potatao soup and put a can of salmon it it!! Made good salmon soup as we called it!! I do mean huge. There were 10 of us so he made big pots of all kinds of stuff. Excellent cook and so was mother.

Sound like you are getting plenty of exercise and good program for losing weight too. I do WW with lots of modifications!!

Have a great night!!
Love and hugs,
Lizzie

Just got back from sharing a meal with my neighbor, the one with the husband in the hospital and saw you had peeked into my journal. We had the casserole I made and the sloppy joes I sent over yesterday, and she made a salad with the greens I brought over. She looks dead on her feet kind of tired.

Went to the hospital to visit her husband and he seemed quite well. I was surprised how well this 80 yr old man was.

I too, don't eat much meat and find it hard to get the protein in I need. Sloppy joes is an exception, only time I've had one this year was this week. Yogurt and cottage cheese are staples.

Will watch for your success,

Donna

hiya lizzie!!! I was rolling reading your bike adventure w/your sis!!! I remember having to crash into some hedges on purpose w/someone on the back of my bike, just can't remember the reason for it....mighta been cut off by a dog running out into the street or something!! my passenger was a little scratched up but no injuries but we were laughing so hard over it we nearly wet ourselves!!!! ah, memories!!!

I would love to have an indoor bike as well...or 1 of those stands you can pop the bike on to convert it, esp. in the winter when the snow comes!! wow, 40 min is a long time to ride a stationary bike, good for you!!! what do you do while you're riding? read, watch tv, listen to music?

and thanks for the salmon suggestions!! I've been trying to figure out what to make & the patties sound great!!! can those be baked or broiled maybe???

hi donna....god bless you for looking in on your neighbor & her husband. she must be so relieved knowing she has someone she can depend on!!!

yesterday:

foodwise, I don't know what happened but only had a huge bowl of cabbage stew...lots of water & my coffee/milk...not good, but I already knew that. I had to bake these blondie things (awesome!!) for a mtg I was going to & I think that threw me off...just smelling them (no, I didn't even have 1) put me in heaven!!!!
only exercise was a real long bike ride w/my stepson up & over hills...it was so bloody hot too, but I made it!!!

as for today, since this is weight lifting day, I already had some cereal so for that, I'm very happy!!!!

more later....have a great day everyone!!!!

hi minnie!!! I think being on a bike, inside or out, sure ain't easy!!! having that fan blow on you must make it seem more like riding outdoors, but without all the bugs hitting your face!! LOL!!

oh, those blondies are just loaded with fat & sugar!!! but boy, are they good!!! the boys were begging me to make another batch today for them, since I let them each taste 1 before I took them away...cruel, ain't I!!??? but I'm a big mush so I guess I'll be nice & let them enjoy themselves!!

Hi there Buji,

Thought I'd stop by and see how your doing. I see you've lost 10 lbs. :cheer: Way to go.

I got some new workout tapes today. I bought 3 Jane Fonda tapes. One is for beginers who have never exercised and who are over weight. Another one is called Fun House. it's only hosted by Jane. I guess they teach you a mtv style dance. And the last is a lite arobics for beginers.

I'm looking forward to trying them. I just don't know which to try first.

Well, must be off.

Thanks for visiting my journal.

Morning Buji,

I tried the first of the Jane Fonda tapes. It was ok. Some parts were to easy and others too hard. She did a whole section lifting both legs in the air which I can't do. Hurts my back. I try to modify where I can. Looking forward to the next one tomorrow.

Take care,

darlene, don't worry too much about that....there might be some modifications you can do & if not, you're still getting a good workout!!!
I have big problems doing lunges!!! I've tried putting my leg out real far in front, like was suggested, & it's a little easier but now I need to work on my balance or I tip over!!! I'm sure it takes awhile getting used to all these new moves, so for now, we'll just keep doing the best we can, right!!?? :o

08-03-02, 02:00 PM
Hi Buji! I am glad the lunges are at least not going to hurt your knee. :) It does take a while to get the balance part, I sometimes still use a chair. But lunges are one of the best things to firm the thighs and butt fast, and what's not to love about that?

All that aside, how awesome you are doing! I am not a moderation girl, I am awed by the ability to eat a small amount of something scrumptious. Everything I have read says that's the way to go, though, so, WAY TO GO!

All that exercise, moderation, motivation...this is going to become a hard hat area--watch for falling pounds!

Love, Heather

summering, I'm so glad to hear that!!!! thanks for letting me know!!!!!

heather, you're so right!!! I really feel the lunges working hard, & lord knows that's an important area to work on the body...kinda melts everything else away!!!!
my biggest problem is once I have something...I can't stop!! so it's easier not to have it in the 1st place!!! I get high just from the smell of most things!!!

Hi Buji.

I just wanted to stop in and catch up with your life. Sounds like you're doing a great job! And I know what you mean about keeping your balance. In certain positions I have a TERRIBLE time doing that. Even on the treadmill, if I don't hang on with at least one hand, I start losing it. Trying to let go for short periods of time to improve that. I even bought the Tae Bo series of tapes, but gave up when I kept tipping over. It was the funniest thing....when the telemarketer called selling the Tae Bo tapes, I wasn't even interested. But the young guy who was trying to sell them to me and I started just chatting about life in general, we ended up chatting for about an hour. lol It was funny. By the time we had talked for so long, I felt guilty for taking up so much of his time I ended up buying them!

Keep up the good work. You're doing great!

Vicki

hi vicki!! I had a treadmill a long time ago...not a good electric one, 1 of the crappy old ones...that thing was awful to use!! I had to hang on for dear life, dig my heels into the rubber & push like mad!! musta been good for my legs tho, now that I think about it...shoulda kept it!!!

don't we spend our money for the silliest reasons!!! ??? but I have heard that those are good tapes so hold on to them, ya never know!! I got a kathy smith beginning kickboxing & only watched it 1 time & realized I sure wasn't ready for it yet!! but I hope to do it someday!!!

I have not done a thing today as far as exercise!!! haven't had anything to eat yet either...very bad!! had some water & coffee tho.... I guess I better do a video...it's so nice out too so tonite I'll ride my bike a bit...it feels like a sunday to me...but then again, without a job EVERY DAY seems like a sunday!!!!

chum, you're too sweet!

I have gotten a little behind here as we had to pick up a bunch of abandoned people at a beach, our sons included, when some cars broke down. so yesterday was not a good day to log in my journal OR read anything, so for that, I apologise!!!!
and it happened right in the middle of my Vedral workout too, imagine!!?? such bad timing!!!
but I had lots of water, coffee & 1%milk.
and cabbage stew w/chicken
popcorn
and my homemade vanilla yogurt concoction (I haven't had that in a few days & boy was it good!!!)

for my workout I have the Vedral weight lifting (of course I finished it!)
a long bike ride over those awful hills (getting better tho!)
and the LS step aerobics.

tonite at 5 is my weigh in at WW. I don't follow the plan really anymore but since I paid for 11 weeks I go, get weighed, pick up any useful lil tidbits & go home. the people still don't talk & the leader says nothing that really applies to me. mostly talk about how to cope w/vacation eating & since I ain't goin on any vacation it doesn't matter. anyhow, when I did go on vacation 4 yrs ago to cancun (everything included!!) I ate 1 meal a day which was a big plate of veggies over rice sprinkled w/some good vinegar. of course I had a drink or 2 in the evening but they were so watered down it didn't matter. but I came home 5 lbs lighter so I musta been doin something right!!!

that's all for now...gonna read some journals & try to get back in the swing o things!!!!

have a wonderful monday everyone!!!!

hi minnie!!

well let's see...what plan AM I on???!!! I guess for now, it's my own plan really. I try to stop eating as soon as I'm no longer hungry. I eat very healthy foods...lots of whole grains, veggies & fruits. get lots of exercise & drink plenty of water. so it's basically WW without having to add up & count points, which was really giving me difficulty. I do at least 1 of the exercise tapes a day & also try to get out for a bike ride. and I'm lifting weights every other day. it's probably what I should have & did, learn a long time ago...I just let myself go in between & ate whatever & how much I wanted. pistachio nuts especially!! I would eat almost a lb at a time...talk about getting your fat in!!!!

I was out most of the day getting my car fixed & now it's almost time for my WW weigh in, and I'm so thirsty but won't dare have anything till after!! on my scale I'm down a good 4 lbs but on THEIR scale, who knows...I probably gained 5 lbs!!! anyway, I'll let you all know how I did when I return!!!

Buji, your plan sounds good. I'm on the same plan, only difference is I try to stay between1300-1500 cals and 20-30 grams of fat. I don't count them either. I log on to fitday and write in my food. I counts it all up for me. All I do is try to mentaly keep a tab on my fat grams (roughly) It's not to hard cause I'm eating the foods you described earlier. All low fat.
I also find writing my food helps me keep track so I can watch for triggers etc.. It also helps me to be accountable.

I too have begun an exercise program. (think you know that already LOL)

So that's my plan in a nut shell.

Speaking of nuts, I was watching a program today on pistachios. (lead a boring life  ) Did you know they are cholesteral free and very low in saturated fats? Not sure about the other fats or the cals, but boy are they good.
Did you also know that they make you pregnant? Yep, they do. Well that's what my mom told me. I guess when she was at work, a girl brought some into the office. Out of the 5 girls eating them, 4 of them got pg including my mom. What a crazy story.

Well have a good day:wave:

good morning all!!!! guess what I got???? I got a ribbon saying

"LOST 10 POUNDS". But in reality that is my total since starting WW 8 weeks ago. actually lost 4 lbs this past week tho. so altogether that makes 16 lbs since unofficially starting on june 3rd. it was slow & I thought it would never come off but I'm happy just the same! I still need to take my measurements but I lost the lil piece of paper I wrote them down on weeks ago so I have nothing to compare it too...gotta clean off this desk of mine. organization & math skills are not my best suits :D but I'll keep looking!!!
yesterday I had my usual menu, since it's easier than figuring:

grape nut o's
1% milk/coffee
popcorn
frozen yogurt
water

I bought a car. so now I must sell the bigger one I bought last week. I feel like a car dealer!! it's all my son's fault (hee hee!) for needing a car for work & me getting tired of giving him mine!!!
but this is a cute lil teal baretta w/a sun roof & tinted windows so I doubt he'll be complaining. now I just need to collect the money from him!! no way is he gettin a car for free!

pengii, sweetie, how are ya??!! did I tell you how much I admire you being a chef??? I went once, many years ago, down to the city to the NY Cooking School, I wanted to be a chef so bad!! but the cost was over my head & I couldn't afford it...I still own every cookbook known to man & every gadget out there, tho....love to cook!!! my son took a course also (a cheaper version!) & he is always concocting some rub or marinade to try...it must run in the family!!!
so you're a pistachio nut addict too!!!

hi mcmarto, hope all is well with you!! that anna nicole was a hoot, eh?? curiosity was the only reason I watched so I doubt I'll be making her a habit either (but you never know!! :D )

hey darlene! I try not to eat anything I can't figure out quickly!! I'm so lazy!
but I do still write everything in my journal, even what exercise I do, which for me, really helps alot!!!

well today I plan on riding my bike & doing my weights...and popping in whatever video excites me....!!!

it's a very cool day today...feels like somewhere in the 60's!! very nice!!!

well I'll be back later all...be good & have a great day full of fun, food & exercise!!!!

Buji,

Congrats on the ribbon! I remember when I got mine, I was showing it off to everybody! I have mine on the fridge, and I keep adding my 5 pound gold stars to it. It's so nice to have the recognition, isn't it? You're doing great!

Congrats on the car, too!

Hi Bugi,
Congrats on the ribbon!! I missed all that doing my WW online. But still have the satisfaction that I am losing only very slowly!!

To bad it doesn't come off as easily as it goes on!! If it did I would have been at goal years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just love stopping by and reading your post they are so much fun. Hey I just discovered that losing weight and changing my life style can be fun!! I finally stopped thinking how hard it is and tried thinking how much fun I could have while losing weight!! If you get a chance check out my journal for the pedometer experience. I am still laughing about that!!

Good luck on your continued success!! Of course it is you applying yourself which accounts for your success!! Not luck!!

Have a super day!!

You're right Buji, it IS a struggle to lose weight, but such a rewarding struggle when we succeed! I suppose it's true that nothing worth having is easy to get. I really admire your determination in light of the fact that you lost the weight once and then gained it back. Do you have any advice for people that lose weight and don't want to gain it back? Even though I haven't lost all of mine yet, I'm always looking out for good maintenence advice, because I'm convinced that maintaining weight loss is almost as hard as losing the weight in the first place.

I was skimming some of the earlier entries in your journal, and noticed that you said that you looked back at an old picture and thought you looked really good, but remembered that you didn't feel like that at the time. Same thing happened to me this weekend. The next time I complain about my appearance and someone says, "But you look good!" I'm going to listen.

Good job on the weight loss so far! Keep it up!

good morning lizzie, jessica & minnie!!!!! and everyone else!!!

oh, it is gorgeous here today...in the 60's!!!! I love this kind of weather!!! so why haven't I been out on my bike like I wanted to?? makes no sense to me at all. I go out & ride when it is in the 90's, hot & humid but these cooler days, I don't. why why why!!!??? I have no clue. I am going out today. I give you & me my word. now I gotta do it cause I made a promise. and you don't ever never break promises right??? RIGHT!!!! ok then!!!

I did 2 videos yesterday. the LS step in the morning & the LS 1 mile in the evening. not too bad I guess.
I had grape nut o's cereal & the most delicious sandwich on toasted whole wheat made w/plain boiled, skinned & defatted chicken thighs w/relish & curry powder added. no mayo or fats or any kind. it was yummy & so filling!!!!
had popcorn & frozen yogurt later on. good day...and water & coffee/milk of course!!!

my son has been gone for 3 days doing some landscaping work w/a friend & boy is it peaceful around here!!! is that awful to like when he is gone?? well, he is 22 & sometimes he acts like he's my father so yes, I like it a lot when he's gone!!! LOL!!!!

as for advice about keeping the weight off....I couldn't do it myself the 1st time but I think I've learned this time that it's better to nip it in the bud right away (I sound like my mommy) as soon as they start creeping back on. I thought I was immune once I lost the weight & that it would never return. wrong move. I know now that's it's a lifelong fight...me against the fat...and that I gain weight very easily & have to be careful. so keeping a good fitting pair of pants or even the scale handy at all times is a definite. I will always have to watch what I eat & realize that yes, I can have cake or candy or 4 slices of pizza at once, if I want. I just can't do it all the time. AND, I have to exercise regularly, like it or not.
I don't think I know anyone, from the most beautiful to the skinniest, who is happy with the way they look totally. at least females!! men are much kinder to themselves, I guess because we accept them pretty much however they look!!
so now we know...we struggle & we win...it's an lifelong challenge!! but we are strong & we can do it...cause we are so very worth it!!!!!

Hey buji! Congrats on the loss!!!! OMG, pistachios!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM. I could eat a whole pound in one sitting. I always used to get them for my dad, and then I would get up in the middle of the night and eat them all. Not a good daughter. Bad daughter. But you, my friend, are doing an amazing job. I am really proud of you and very impressed!

chum, I won't buy those darn nuts anymore just for that very reason!!! eating a few is just not an option for me..it's all or nothing!!!
my dad always liked most of the same things I did, except for chocolate covered cherries...and knowing if I got him something, I would end up eating the whole thing, I always tried to get him the cherries cause I never liked those!!! HEEHEE!!!

Darkene, thanks for the kind words!!!

I got right on that bike yesterday after I made my promise. went over my hills & even did it all by myself!!! I told my stepson when he got home & he was proud of me too, but I also told him not to think he wouldn't have to go with me anymore!!! he's a good kid & he'll be gone for the navy in less than 2 weeks...gee, I'll miss him!

so, activity for yesterday: bike ride & 2 mile w/LS & Florine

food: chicken salad on WW Bread, nectarine, popcorn & frozen yogurt...plus coffee/1% milk & WATER

today, who knows!!! it's still gorgeous here...still in the 60's!! only went to 7s yesterday, just perfect for another bike ride I would say. I hope to get out there again!!
did about 4 loads of laundry yesterday so I'm caught up on that for now.
my son is still gone, doing the landscape work but did stop by to pick up some clean clothes & see if I was able to get him his car yet...which actually fell thru but now there's another, even better, that the guy is fixing up for me. so hopefully soon, I'll get mine back & he can drive the newer one!!!

keep busy all, & have a wonderful day!!!!

Hi buji :)
I just noticed your journal here and spent some time reading it and catching up on getting to know you.....

I do not get into DT as often as I would like - you know that silly little thing in life called a job lol :tomato:
It keeps me away from here way too often....

However I do try to write in my journal 1 time a week and read and post in others once a week as well.......
My journal is titled - 82 lbs to lose - one lb. at a time or something like that lol ;)

Ok now I know why I do not eat peanuts! I have two little ones already, but they call me grandma!!!!!!! :D

I do not need another one that calls me mom again lol
Way too old for that any more.....now grand children - they are the highest high I could image - sorry I could go on forever about them, but I won't lol

One poster here posted that you can get pg eating peanuts - I would have heart failure if I got PG again lol

Oh, yes and I really am not "old" lol I am just a young grandma - I am 40.....but I am sure I want no more babies other then having more grandchildren - I have passed the torch onto my daughter lol ;)

Your doing GREAT and CONGS on your losses!!!!!!!! :super:

I tried ww a few yrs. ago and like you - I cook a lot from scratch and found it really hard to keep track of, so now I do the low fat thing - I find it much easier. I don't count - I just watch.

Nice getting to know you :)

hi jade, thanks for stopping by!!! wow, only 40 & already a gramma!!! I'm 45 & hope & pray I don't see any grandchildren for quite awhile...gonna keep any kind of nuts away from the girl who gets close to my lil boy!!!!

it's not easy trying to keep track of all the people on here, reading & replying to the journals...something always popping up to distract or take us away...and I'm HOME all day...with a job it would be next to impossible to keep up until late at nite!!!

so a warning to all...if I get a job, please forgive me!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds these points things an annoying pain!!!!

take care!!

Hi Buji,

And congrats on your big loss! Proud of you lady!

I'm also a nut for nuts, and so I have to avoid them at all costs. What they say is a serving is just a taste in my opinion. I'm just getting started when the diet books say I should be done. One item off the list altogether because there is just way I can control that one.

I have to tell you, I was doing the counting calorie thing, and I was taking forever to lose the weight. Now I'm counting points and doing great. And the funniest part of it is that I am eating about the same number of calories per day on points as I was counting calories. But the point system "directs" you in a certain way that helps your body rid it's self of waste faster, in my opinion, and so you appear to lose quicker.

I have a couple of diet programs I purchased. They both do basically the same thing. You record your foods eaten, they tally up the calories for you and then give you the number or grams of this, that, and the other thing so you can keep an eye on the fat and sugars and carbs etc. When I was counting calories, I noticed that I was having a hard time keeping the fat calories down, and I was having at least 30% of my foods in fat, and I wanted to keep it lower than that. Now on the points program, when I add up the calories, they are almost identical, but the fat portion is so much less. It's just amazing.

So yes, you can do the foods, the calories or the points, but that doesn't mean they will all do the same. I don't care what the doctors say. I've lost more on WW in a couple weeks than I lost counting calories in months.

Of course, like everything, weight loss is an individual thing. To each his or her own. For some reason one body reacts one way to one method and another for someone else. Part of what makes us all unique and individual I suppose. Apparently whatever you are doing is working great for you. I'm glad you have found what helps you most and are continuing to succeed with it.

I will be gone for the weekend, so I won't have another opportunity to tell you......Have a great weekend. Be back on Monday and if I have the time, will pop in to say hello.

Take care
Sandie

Hey buji,
Just out crusing today. Have a turkey in the oven and trying to think of something that would be good with it that is healthy!! So far everything I come up with is toooo fattening!! So I better remember this is just a turkey and not Thanksgiving!!

Everytime I try to count calories I end up on a binge that would kill a cow. Tried and tried and got nowhere. For some reason ww works for me. Maybe it is the structure and the fact if I stay with in my points I lose. Probably doesn't make much sense but counting points is easier for me then counting calories!! I have lots of admiration foir those who can do it on their own!!

I have the same problem with peanuts one is never enough and 5000 is never too many! So along with ham I don't have them in the house. Don't think I will ever be able to control the peanut binge so best to leave them alone.

Well better go see what I can find in the kitchen to go with turkey. Most likely will be bread and mustard.

Take care,
Love and hugs,
Lizzie

Hi Buji, Congrats on your weightloss that is wonderful I know how hard that is to lose weight. What kind of exercise do you do? When I do it I walk or indoor bike ride...I LOVe chocolate covered cherries can not have them in the house or I will eat them. So far so good today on my eating and as for the exercise it is not happening today but I did scrub the floor( hands & knees ) maybe that can count it was a workout. lol Check in on you later thanks for posting in my journal.

hi sandie and lizzie!!!

oh I know what you mean...so many different programs & so much time!!!! I guess my big problem is patience & organization. try as I might to figure things, I can do pretty well w/the stuff that comes already made, but when it comes to stuff I make homemade like a casserole or something, I lose all sense of direction!!!! and I try not to eat too much stuff that is pre-packaged so it's almost like a losing battle for me!! that's why I end up eating such boring things most of the time, like the cereal or the popcorn!! but I'm not above trying anything once, that's for sure!! I just wish it would work faster, but I know that's not the way to do it...and I am proud of the 16 lbs even tho the beginning weeks before I started WW were really just coffee, oranges & popcorn!! but the quantity was sure there!!! I can eat a huge bowl of popcorn & I'm talking HUGE, which I love & would rather eat that at nite watching tv than have a normal dinner...so I eat my veggies & fruits throughout the day & save myself for my extra special popcorn treat!! I never thought I would like cardboard so much! LOL!!!
I did go on the fitday.com but I didn't have any stuff to log in to it & I think I threw off their computer system somehow...oh well!

Lizzie, maybe you could roast a whole bunch of fresh veggies around that ol bird while he bakes in the oven??!! some peppers & zucchini & onions & whatever else sounds good??!!! oh, and if you cut up some potatoes & parboil them, and then brush some egg white on them (instead of the cooking spray) & sprinkle on some seasonings & bake, they come out like seasoned fries...one of my favorites!!!!

well, I guess we're all in agreement...nuts to those nuts!!!

have a great weekend sandie!!

Lizzie B

bugi,
I never thought of baking any veggies with the turkey. I have been out of the kitchen way to long!! Now those potatoes sound good too-never fixed them like that either. Thanks for the suggestions!! When my boys were small I cooked all the time. Now with my sons grown even though 2 are still home they cook for themselves! Hubby gone at night working so it is just me and I eat simple food. Going to have to change my way of thinking!!

Hey good job on losing those 16!!!! You are doing such a great job of losing. I lose slowly and somedays yikes!!!!!!! Just keep hanging in there and before you know it you will be at goal!!

If you ever need any extra support come on over and join the Snow Angels!! Helps me get through the days when I have a tough time!! We are in the Challege forum!

Well better check my turkey!!

hey ruthie!!!!

oh, so you like chocolate covered cherries, eh??? milk or dark??? for years & years we kept getting my dad the dark cause that's what my mom said he liked. one year he says "please don't get me dark chocolate, I hate it".... boy, did we let my mom have it!!! LOL!!!!! so we all have our absolute no-no's that we know we can never have again until we are 97 lb right?! I know everybody says "don't deprive yourself" but when it comes to certain things, they either set us off on a binge or do us in completely!!! some things are just not worth it I suppose!
I do alot of the leslie sansone tapes. she is easy on my joints & I don't feel like I'm dying or trying out for choreography!!! have also been riding my bike alot, which I love...it's actually getting easier! and last but most important, lifting weights...light weights mostly 5 lbs...tho some moves I can lift the 10 lb weights but not much of those!!! I'm still trying to find a good plan I can follow every other day that is a complete workout...don't like doing the upper body 1 day & lower the next...would rather do it all at once & get it over with....but those day off days in between go by so fast!!!
I still love to take a walk around the neighborhood w/my sweetie even tho he can't go too fast...but we get to hold hands & look at all the neighbors gardens, which I like!!!!

Good Cherries are red,
Your weight loss is first in your head.
Bad Cherries are dark,
You need to walk it off in the park.

As you can see I'm not much of a poet.

Ok - so now I've had a chance to catch up. YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!! Love your consistent exercise (that's a big thing with me too).

I can so relate on the rebound weight gain. 3 years ago I got down to 155 and felt great. I then met dh and everything went straight to hell, lots of eating out, lots of drinking, no exercise, etc.. not a good excuse but there you have it. Put on 100 pounds in a very short time period.

This time when I lose the weight it will be for good and I realize this means that like you, I will ALWAYS have to be conscious of what I am eating, ALWAYS have to exercise regularly. Not so bad a trade for being healthy when you think about it.

Have a great day!!

Hi Buji,

What a fun jounal...I'm surprised I haven't popped in before. Now I'll keep checking back in for sure.

Certain foods do set me off. Years ago I did a voice ad for 'Nutella' before I knew what it was. Let's see if I can remember how it went: 'Hazelnuts, skim milk, and cocoa give nutella the taste that makes any bread special. It's the spread kids can't get enough of. Nutella - a half century of goodness.' So I went out and bought some and... screw the bread...I spooned it straight out of the jar and into my mouth! Not the way it was intended to be consumed I don't believe. All I can say is - keep that stuff away from me!

Morning, Buji! OMG! Nutella is so great! MMMMM Enough of that. Enough!!!! DO NOT GO OUT AND BUY NUTELLA. It is addictive.

You are really cool. I'm glad we've hooked up! Have a great Saturday, my friend!:D

luci, that is so funny!!!! cause I met my sweetie at the same time & did the same thing w/gaining all the weight back!!!! I was so good in the beginning but he didn't understand the way I ate & would push push push to eat!!!! isn't that weird!!!!!

anastasia, I bought nutella once in my life & it was so good I almost ate the whole jar in 1 sitting!!!! straight out of the jar!!! that chocolate/nut thing is a bad addiction I have!!!!

mcmarto, you took the vit c!!!! I'm so glad!!! I hate being sick especially in the beginning when you get that tickle thing on the roof of your mouth & just know that your heading for a cold.....the vit c always (most of the time!!) stops it dead in its tracks!!!

hi ruthie!! oh I got up at 11 today!!! stayed up watching movies last night & didn't fall asleep till after 3 but I got up at 6 to use the bathroom & almost stayed up!!! decided to go back to bed so here I am!! you have a pug mix?? how adorable!! but I love all dogs!! I had 2 twin sharpeis once who I found wandering the streets...put flyers up all over & brought them home & they peed all over my house, they were still puppies & 1 was skinny & 1 was fat & they were too cute...but their owner called & got them back so I was relived...always a sucker for a stray babies!!!!

chum, if you see me anywhere near the nutella, shoot me cause once I start I won't be able to stop!!! argh!!!!! it's bad being a nut fiend!! it oughtta be illegal, like heroine or something!!!!

ok guys...the 4 lb I lost musta been a fluke cause I think the scale is going back up again. could be water, could be just one a those things. can't worry about it cause I know I'm still doing everything right, but might need to increase & vary my food again. how creative can I get this week, I wonder?? I'm sure it might even be muscle build up as I really been working my legs alot!!!
did I ride my bike yesterday?? I sure didn't!! I miss riding w/joey I think...today I'll grab him & make him go with me!! LOL!!! if not, I'm gonna go by myself...yes another promise cause then I gotta do it...so I promise to ride my bike today. there. good.

yesterday's boring food:

chicken salad sandwich on WW bread
2 nectarines
popcorn - air & microwave lite mixed (I wanted the flavor!!)
vanilla & chocolate frozen yogurt concoction (I gotta make a new batch today cause I'm just about out!!! OH MY!!!)
coffee/1%milk
WATER

exercise was only the LS 2 mile w/Florine tape

it was a lazy day...but at least I always get an exercise video in no matter what, & so far I haven't taken 1 day off yet...so for that I'm proud of myself (she pats herself on the back)

on to read some journals & then I'll go eat some breakfast!!!
have a wonderful saturday everyone!!!!!

I have never heard of this "Nutella" in my life. But Hello Buji. I hope you have a nice day. Mine is bound to be hellish with my demoniod mother lurking here, there and everywhere.
Anywhoo, G'day, mate.

I never heard of it either...Can't miss what I've never had!! When my hubby and I got together, he stopped doing his exercises, and we both gained weight. Now I'm back down to lower than before we met, and exercising (which I never did before!), but he's not ready yet. Funny what love will do to you, huh?

I have two dogs - one scottish terrier and one poodle. The "Terror" is so dumb!! Lovable, but dumb as a door knob. The poodle was supposed to be mine, but is definitely daddy's dog!

Have a great weekend, Buji!!

Heed Buji advise and do not seek out the nutella , it is evil , one bite and your in it's clutches , when shopping I avoid eye contact with it , or it makes it way into the cart and I lose all control !

Anyway I don't have to worry about hubby not wanting to go camping next time , he's already promising our girl we will go back , he's such a good sport ! hope you have a great weekend !

Hi Buji, you sure do have a lot of visitors during the course of the day!

I apologize profusely to everyone for mentioning the 'N' word; I promise not to do it again!!!

Mcmarto - I'm from Chicago too - the southeast side (Pill Hill where all of the doctors lived). I miss my most wonderful city greatly.

Have a good Sunday, everyone.

I guess a lot of people have problems with certain foods. Lucky for me Taco Bell Tacos cannot just sit on my shelf, calling me. I have to walk 3 blocks, then take a subway, then walk another 3 blocks to get them. So I don't do it as often as I would like...LOL

Buji, let me add my congratulations on not taking a day off from exercising!!! I know how hard that must be!!! Some mornings, I just don't feel like it (oh, a zillion excuses) and lucky for me (in this respect, at least ) I'm not working much, so I can get it done in the afternoon. But when I go back to work full time, I know the self discipline will HAVE to kick in...very worrisome prospect, that.

I am really proud of you! As for your calorie intake, I know that I fiddle with mine all the time, trying to figure out how best to lose. Not only do I require a little more calories some days, I have found that the water makes a huge difference. You'll find what works best for you!!!

Have a great Sunday!!!:D

Hi Buji

Just thought I'd drop you a line as you've been kind enough to visit me and give me some much needed motivation! You must be the most popular person on diettalk at the moment!!!

Well done for all the exercise - I think that if you get your exercise in at least you've won half the battle - I read in a magazine today that we are eating about half as much as our ancestors ate, yet the average weight is much higher. Apparently this is because our ancestors used at least twice the amount of calories we use today - so there is definitely something to be said for this exercise lark.

Oh, and we have Nutella in the UK too - we also have mars spread and milkyway spread - both of which are too calorific to be mentioning in a diet forum!!

As for the shredded wheat thing that you mentioned in my journal, yep we have that over here, but Weetabix is different - it's not as "twiggy" as shredded wheat and probably has a stack more sugar in it.

Hope your day is going well.

Michaela

wowee!!!! look at all these responses!!!

well, all I have to say is you guys have been so great from the 1st time I got on here, with giving advice & showing such kindness & humor...I just hope to be as wonderful as all of you have been!!! that is, after all, what this place is about!!! god bless us everyone (thank you tiny tim!) :D

I suddenly jumped to another page so I can't see the list from here but I'll send another message right after I put this one in...my day yesterday:

as promised, I did ride my bike...up only 1 of my hills since the other is in a remote area & I got a little bit scared going there by myself...I musta watched a scary movie so it set my brain into :don't go near the woods alone!!!" mode. but that 1 hill is a killer & I rode up & down all the other streets for twice as long as usual so I think I got a pretty good workout in. and lucky me!! I got this real cute guy in a black truck ask me for directions, and later on he passed me again, honked & waved so I guess he was happy with what I told him!! what a hunk!!! of course I left that part out when I got home & my sweetie asked how my ride went. (I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid!!)

also did the leslie sansone step video
and all my weight lifting & leg work

drank my water right up until I went to bed, had more than usual!
had my coffee/milk 1%
popcorn
cabbage/gr pepper curry stew

today I'll fix some lentils to add to the stew cause I see I didn't have any protein in awhile....very bad me!!

ok, now I'll read what you guys wrote & come right back!!!

Hey Buji,
Sounds like you are doing just terrific, good for you. I love that bike ride. Be careful of people stopping to ask directions though, even if they are cute as all get out.

Maybe you should tell your hunny about him cause then he might ride with you and you can go to those 'dark woods' and not be alone.

Well have a good day. Come to chat on Tuesdays if you are interested.

Stacey, your hubby will join you as soon as he’s ready. he likes to compete with you, yes?! Maybe he’s waiting cause he knows how much easier it is for men to lose weight!! Then he’ll try to whip right past you!!!!! LOL!!!!
Your babies sound adorable!! Sometimes the dumber they are, the cuter they are…I remember sandi sitting outside & baking her head off. I ran out to see what was out there to cause her to make such a fuss & she was barking at the lawnmower. It wasn’t even turned on!!! What a nut!!!

Summering, your guy is the best!!! Even after all he’s been thru, too, what a doll!!! I just hope he has better luck next year!! LOL!!!!

Hi judy!! How can we not spoil em when we look at those mugs!!?? I wouldn’t give up my babies for anything…they always make me laugh over some silly thing!!!

Mcmarto, I have a friend that has a birthday party every year for her bulldog & all his friends!! The yard is jam packed w/dogs & she has a cake made w/his face on it, hats for everybody & gift bags for all the pups filled w/toys & bones!! It’s one of the best parties I go to!!! Lots of pooper scoopers within easy reach too!!!

Claire, I gotta start keeping a better watch on you, girl!!! Being around all that food all the time is no excuse!! We’re gonna have you start creating goodies we can eat that are just as good as the original but healthier…then you won’t have any excuse for not eating right!!! Now go drink your water!!!

Hey Anastasia!! Oh you can mention the N word anytime you like!! I am strong. I will not eat them. I am strong!! Aurgh!!! (actually, right now I have 2 huge bags of ghiradelli chocolate chips, & almonds & walnuts & pecans right in my freezer from all the goodie baking I was doing (& eating) right before I started my plan. And I’m proud to say I haven’t touched not a one!!! But boy, the things I could whip up with those!!!!!
I just tell myself if I want it I can have it. That usually puts a halt to my cravings!! (god willing!!)

Oh chum, you mean to tell me with all the great Spanish food you got down there, you get taco bell hankerings???? Say it isn’t so!!!! I think that’s what I miss most of all being up here. A good Spanish restaurant!!! I love the rice & beans and try as I might I just can’t duplicate it the way all my friends would cook it!!! It comes out ok but sticks together like a big ol family!!!! I’ll just hafta keep trying!!!

Hey there mickey!! I think you’re right about our ancestors…if we had to do even ½ the work they did we’d need a heck of a lot more food!! Plus, nothing was processed & was taken straight from the earth!! Nowadays, we don’t know what’s in the food we eat. But as long as we try to eat the right things, that’s ½ the battle!!!

Ok guys, hope you all have a great day; get your exercise in, drink that water & try to laugh at least once today!!! Boy, it sure did get hot around here…no more cool weather I guess…but that’s ok!!! It’ll make the weeds grow!!!

hi nancy!!!! glad you stopped by!!!

I did keep my distance & had my foot on my pedal ready to go, just in case.....always cautious, I am!!! but it can be so scary cause sometimes the worst things happen right in broad daylight!!
Joe has really bad emphysema so he can't ride anymore, tho he wishes he could...even a walk is hard & we have to keep stopping for him to catch his breathe. but I do drag his son joey with me most of the time, cause he loves riding!!

Hi Buji,
I was just thinking about what Michaela said about our ancestors eating more and weighing less. We have alot more that makes our lives easier nowadays. Back then everyone was walking (or riding a horse) and then they built everything and had hard jobs, but they also died when they were 30. Unless, she was talking our ancestors as in cave people in which case they chased deer with sharp sticks and probably died when they were 15. Ha ha. Anyway, I'm going out to see that movie Signs and the movie RunTelDat. I'll talk to you later.

Hey, Buj! Have little time to read all your posts (your popular gal, you) but I wanted to come by and wish you the best with everything, and wish you lots of happiness. I'll try, in the future, to do better with keeping up with your journal. :) There's a lot to get through! :)

hey christina!!!

well, either way, they sure were alot more active than we were!! if it's caveman times, remember that movie w/raquel welch where nobody talked but they kept clubbing each other over the head!??? then the ground would open & swallow them whole??? what a life!!! and we complain!!! hee hee!!!!!
and then later on, they had all those diseases from bugs in the flour & were dropping like flies & got married at 12??!!! I mean really!!! we sure do have it easy!!!! (yes, I admit to being a huge little house on the prairie fan!!!!:D )

hi andree!!! nothing exciting going on over here, really, so not to worry!!!! but I do love bothering other people in there journals & y
