I will settle the rivalry immediately. I am not really a Sox or Cubs fan. I went for Wrigley Field and because people always gave me free tickets. I just don't dig baseball. Now hockey players I can get in to. Have you guys ever seen Mike Modano from the Dallas Stars??? Yum.

I can't imagine anyone on DT saw Bring It On. Not a great movie but since I like that teeny bopper stuff, well, I am guilty of seeing it. There were some funny moments and a few funny lines. Not at all the kind of movie I expected. The cheerleaders were all about competitive cheerleading. They dated cheerleader boys, not football players. I like Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushka so I took my young cousin. She thought it was stupid. I thought it was a little camp... it had the potential and the cast to be really funny. I don't think anyone talks valley girl anymore... These cheerleaders were from San Diego. A few of them still had that California thing happening... ie names, Courtney, Whitney, Torrance.

Have fun at the game!!!

Yes, sadly, people still talk like Valley Girls. Realllly, it's like TOtalllly true... And why am I so distraught about being temporarily holed up at my mother's house? Because it's in the Valley (Shhhh, please don't let on to anyone!)

Trust me, driving through is the best thing you can do here!!!

All is forgiven, Nanneee can come to visit. You have to understand, one of my first images in life was of the collection of Sox (White AND Red) stickers we had in the house; the origins of these feelings run deep.

By the by, how's the diet/exercise going these days Kilogo?

It's going wonderfully, if you don't count ballpark food. Even then I didn't do too badly. I had a taco. Oh wait -- there was that ice cream bar. Honestly, it needs improvement.

This was the most incredible game experience I've ever had. It was truly amazing in there. I am deaf now, the noise level was so high. My voice is gone, or nearly so, from shouting so much. The crowd was so into this game. Every pitch.

I got a rally monkey. He's a cute little bugger.

I liked everything about that game. Everything. There was drama, there was action, there were fantastic plays and d'oh mistakes. Records were set and tears were shed.

You're right, Mcmarto, they are on fire and on clouds and can do no wrong. They won, of course. So we're going to the World Series!! Yahoo!

Go Angels!

But they don't play until Saturday, so you'll have a week of me talking about something besides baseball.

You're welcome :) .

I would like to say a bit more about this game, the Angels players in particular, but I'm too tired. Perhaps if the feeling is still with me I'll write about it tomorrow.

There's plenty of teeny-boppers here at DT, Nanneee. Have you ever checked out the Teens Only forum? It's a rather frightening place.

Oh no, tu madre lives in the valley. I won't tell. I have a friend who grew up in the valley who talks like that. It's very annoying. But she's my age, so high school was 20 years ago. I'd hoped they'd stopped by now.

Chumlette, where are you? Are you still reading, at least? I hope you're ok.

I do a modified valley girl talk with the 8 year old I look after. It depends on the mood. We talk with different accents... Brooklyn, Irish, Scottish, Engish, Quebequois; we have yet to master the Aussie accent. We also do a little Italian American. The valley girl stuff is just silly, lots of so... You are soooo in trouble.

Congrats on your win!!!

"Yay...Angels!"

Well............glad you had a good time!.........Taco ... ice cream ... and all!

Well if anyone cares...."I am a Cubs fan"...hahahaha...growing up on the North side...never cared for the White Sox...still don't...though they have a new nice stadium...I drive buy it everyday on my way to and from work ... since I work way south!...But Wrigley field...and Wrigleyville...........great ballpark...and an even better neighborhood!........When I was young and thought I was a freak.....I used to hangout a few blocks away towards Belmont and Sheffield...at a place called "Medusa's"...it was a club for teens.......drinking juice...spiked with...well........heck...this isn't my journal!...hahahahaha!

Have a great Monday Kilogo!

I need to get back to sleep!

Hi kilo

Just thought I'd let you know that I watched Bring it on - it sooooooo wasn't worth it lol. I talk like that sometimes, but only to take the mick, it's not, like totally serious.

It's cool that the Angels won and are going to the World Series (even if it is actually only an American series, but that's not the point). And I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and that you lost your voice, because, to be honest, you really do talk too much :D

Anyway, just thought I'd drop by

See you soon, Chuckles

Good morning!

Hi Chuckles, nice of you to drop by when you so busy these days. Nice to see you! One does wonder who came up with the name World Series and why. But that's what it's called.

And I really don't talk too much. People would probably call me an introverted soul. I just write too much  .

I hope to be able to say "Go Cubs!" for you someday, McMarto. The Angels are proof that a bottom-feeding team can make it, so there's hope for the Cubs, too.

My mentor in my first job out of college -- who is still my friend these many years later -- is from Chicago. He first introduced me to the rivalry between the hated Sox and the beloved Cubs.

Here we have the Dodgers and the Angels, and I don't think their fans give a particular damn about the other team. No rivalry there.

Here's a great article on the Rally Monkey. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_news.jsp?ymd=20021013&content_id=156812&vkey=cs2002news&fext=.jsp . My Rally Monkey is awfully cute and did a fine job last night.

Good Mornin!

I write way too much myownself. When I am in a room full of people that I don't know I tend to get into watching rather than talking. Hey! It can be interesting and you can learn the silliest things about people. I can carry on a conversation with anyone who starts talking to me first, but the rest of the time I stay a little quiet. I used to have to work (ok, it was forced free labor) in political camps as campaign manager or finance manager. At one gathering a guy came up to me and started asking me questions about things going on and as usual, I said I didn't know the answers. A few others joined him and they started telling me they didn't believe I didn't have all the answers. Something about my quiet 'knowing' way, they said.

Odd, people's perceptions, eh?

We had Thanksgiving dinner at the bosses house last night. Guess what he was watching on TV? Yep, Angels. It seems they are getting a lot of international pull. It's always a feel good situation to see the underdogs succeed. Good for them!!

Cheers!

I know what you mean, tmayder. Ever read "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter"?

In it, these various people befriend a man who cannot speak. They spend time alone with him, talking to him about their hopes and dreams. They all come to believe that he understands them so well and is their best friend in the world. But it's really just that he allows them to come and babble away all they want while he never says a word.

I related to that man quite a bit.

Hey, Angels are international! If he's really an Angel's fan you could get him a Rally Monkey and really score points. I see them all over stuffed animal stores these days. It's a stuffed spider monkey with very long arms and legs that velcro together.

MissChuckle
10-14-02, 03:41 PM
People do think that you're a really good friend and really interesting when you let them babble away at you. I'm like that to, quite quiet most of the time, although I'm talkative when I'm with people I know well. And I'll talk to people when they talk to me - I won't just blank them or anything. although sometimes, with certain people, I wish I could - but that's another matter.

I was only joking about you being a loudmouth. I promise. But it has started up an interesting discussion. So maybe you should be thanking me??

anyway, hope you're enjoying your monday.

Of course I thought you were kidding.

My Monday is muddling along.

And I get Tuesday off!! I requested it for another work-search day and it got approved. So I am going to have a morning run, perhaps taking my barky dog with me, then going to finish planting my ground cover and generally root in the yard the rest of the day. Hooray! No work!

But it is getting chilly. It didn't even get over 70 today :( .

So I've changed my avatar to the fall/winter motif sailboat. Thank you for that again, Tmayder. :x

want a weiner dog to keep misty company?? he is 2 years old and needs a home lol he is cute
my friend does rescues and a vet gave him to her...you will scream at the little guys story

the owners bought thier cute puppy...but were annoyed at his bark...so had him debarked (something I find incrdibly cruel...if you have ever met a dog that has had his cords cut...you know why)
anyhow
that wasnt enough...they said his behaviour was not good either and said he had separation anxiety too bad and was destructive... ok..we are talking a 10 pound dog with no vocal cords here

so...they took it to the vet to be put to sleep as they didnt want to deal with it

the vet called the rescue (my fr)

sharon says he is wonderful... she figures they just ignored him or wanted a dog to fit thier sched...he is so happy to get attention and is well behaved...she said better than a lot of her dogs lol

so, I know a few people always looking and will phone around to see if anyone wants this little boy

I thought you meant your weiner dog for a minute.

I'm afraid Misty would try to murder the poor little thing. Remember she's vicious as well as barky?

She's such a sweet dog. I don't understand the aggressiveness towards other dogs. I'm blaming it on her lack of upbringing where she just never interacted with other dogs for the first 5 years of her life so now has no idea how to act around them.

She's getting better on the barking. She's not as bad as a lot of dogs on that. I've never met one with its vocal cords cut but I can imagine it's awful. I'd never mutilate my pets! Same goes for declawing a cat. It's just wrong. Poor pets. All they do is love you.

But in the meantime, I couldn't trust her around a little dog. If we got another, it'd have to be as big as her at least.

Hee, I bet Tmayder could put your penguin on a sailboat. That would be cute. I will give it a try myself when I get back to work if she hasn't done it by then already. I don't really do graphics work -- it's a whole different field than what I'm in. But I'll give it a shot! I'm trying to learn Photoshop better.

You know - Misty's former owner was going to have her put to sleep because she and her husband couldn't deal with Misty and their new baby at the same time. This woman is currently running for City Attorney. If she can't handle a baby and a dog at the same time, I doubt if she can handle being City Attorney. So guess who's not going to vote for her?

On the other hand, if my PITA neighbor is going to continue being unreasonable about the barking situation, it doesn't hurt to mention that this dog used to belong to the City Attorney. She's currently the Asst. City Attorney, which is a good enough for a threat I suppose.

Oh my!...I learn something new here daily!

I did not know you could have a dog "debarked"...this sounds so cruel!...Poor little guy....I'd take him for sure if you were close by...I have a prego friend who loves weiner dogs...her sister had one that became paralyzed and eventually passed...and now she has two more...a mother and son......so my friend would love to get her hands on this little guy!...I hope he finds a loving home!

Well Kilogo...have fun on your run...and take barky with you!...Have a great day off!

Some dogs are more agressive.... but usually can be handled...plus we humans have to know how to deal with it

as much as i would love a cat with all my mice.. I know my terrier would go crazy...and maybe even kill it... cant hate him for it

my sisters cat used to beat up my rotti... they are just dif i guess

one of sharons weiners had been debarked many years ago

you hear this hoarse woof... and he trys to bark even mpore cause now he cant be heard... poor guy

it is cruel

this little guy will find a home no prob... and def no hurry... she just asked me to keep it in mind as I meet a lot of great dog people on my walks

I feel bad you have to deal with the neighbor from hell about misty...and so glad you gave her a good home when her owner was gonna dispose of her

have you checked the pethelp websites for any info about why misty might be on a mission??

anyhow...gotta go clean the dustbunnies off my weiner dog

guess i missed a spot when i pulled my bed out today hahahahha

looks lik he has a beard

I was telling Dar I should make him a velcro sweater and then i would never have to move furniture again hahahah

Awww, is that Sammy, Lutha? He looks a lot like tmayder's Chester. Cute kitties!

I've looked for articles on how to deal with an aggressive dog but haven't found much. Lots of ads for people who will work with the dog, but no do it yourself stuff. If any of you have any links or articles or ideas on this, please send them my way.

There is a lot on barking training, though. It is helping somewhat. No luck on how to deal with it when we're going during the day, though.

I'll try to ftp later!

Hey Kilogo

Have you tried leaving the radio on for Misty whilst you're not there? It might just provide a bit of soothing for her - although it might provoke her I suppose.

I think what some people do to their so called pets is disgusting. I got my cat, Chloe, from the RSPCA (pet rescue charity). She had been dumped by her previous owner because she was having kittens. We took her in and she's a lovely cat, very friendly and affectionate - but also very, very insecure. She wouldn't go outside for a long time, even now she won't eat without either me or my partner going to watch her to start her off. I know this is only minor cruelty compared to what some poor animals go through. I suppose it's not much different to people have children then realising that they can't handle the responsibility and then doing horrible things to them. The world can be such a horrible place.

On the upside, I'm pleased for you that the Angels are doing so well. I'll certainly be thinking about them on Saturday.

kilogo
10-15-02, 11:46 AM
Good morning all,

A little DT to start off my day off. I like it.

You sent links to the files, tmayder. And I saved them from there.

Misty barks at people walking their dog on the sidewalk. She is in the backyard behind the fence, and sometimes she throws herself full force against that fence trying to get to the other dog, barking loudly and aggressivley the whole time.

Other times she just barks at them as they walk by and until they are long gone.

If there's no one out front she doesn't bark.

When I walk her, if she sees another dog she tries to get away from me and take off after it. She succeeded a couple of times before I got one of those face halter collars. Those things work! Misty and I have good walks now. No pulling, she heels nicely, and no risk of her getting away from me.

I've learned they make a couple different types of muzzle designed just for barking. Dog can still pant and drink, but can't bark. I am going to get one today. Put it on when she barks, take it off after a bit. When she barks again, put it on again.

Hope it helps.

I'll try the radio, too. It certainly can't hurt.

Hope you all have great days.

Nanny

Happy Tuesday!!! I have absolutely no advice on the dog front. I never had a dog growing up. Mum and Dad just got their first and I guess they were dog people deep down. It is a little ****zu and it is all they talk about. Dad calls it his new four legged baby. He walks the dog about 5 times a day. Just wandering around the neighbourhood visiting friends. To be honest it drives me crazy.. I phone mum and she spends half the time making baby noises at the dog. I sit on my end in disgust. Luckily we are a close family, I can just say OK Mom you are annoying and I am going now.

BYE.

People do get more silly about their pets as they get older, I think. Substitute children or grandchildren. Someone to dote on who loves them unconditionally. Nothing wrong with that, I guess.

I have whole new sympathy for the plight of the neighbors. Misty is apparently out of control barking most of the time we are gone. Right at 7:45 this morning, when I normally leave for work, she started up, barking furiously and trying to tear the front gate down. She'd stop when I told her to but started up again just a few minutes later. Not good.

So I searched again for advice on aggressive/barking behaviors. I think this problem is related in Misty. Learned a nifty trick -- the doggy time-out.

When she is barking and tearing at the fence, tell her "No" firmly so she knows what she's doing is wrong, then put her in isolation for a bit. I put her in the bathroom. Let her out fairly soon, but only if she's quiet. If scratching at the door, she doesn't get out. You just take her in there, no talking, no reprimands, no sound at all. When you let her out, you just open the door. You don't acknowledge her at all.

They say it's the equivalent of being shunned, which is how dogs teach each other right from wrong in the pack. And I'm telling you, it worked! Twice I had to put her in the bathroom, and she's been a perfect dog ever since. Perfect. Silent. Calm. Her ears lift when a dog walks by the front, and maybe she goes to the gate for a look and smell, but no barking, no clawing at the gate. I am amazed.

Now if I could just be home every day to continue that, we'd be set.

I'll be home every day starting 93 days from now, but that's too far off. This has to stop now.

I think of how far I've come with this dog. She's made huge progress in the year I've had her. So have I. I thought I knew how to train a dog, but I've had to learn a lot more with this one. It's both easy and difficult. She's a good dog. Wish I could have started with her as a puppy.

I do need to attempt to socialize her more, even though I think missed socialization as a puppy can't ever be wholly fixed. But I am going to start taking her to the store with me and on walks and runs and such. With her new face harness she heels like a champ, so no problem there.

Misty.

I've gotten one flat of ground cover planted so far. I'm having lunch and taking a little break. Then, back the plants. Oof.

Misty is such a cutey, she looks quite a character - and definitely sounds like one. However, it sounds (ha ha) like you might have hit upon something with this training lark. Perhaps I should do that with my mother when I go for tea tonight. If she starts going on about things (such as wedding things which she WILL NOT stop talking about) I will shut her in the bathroom, until she stops scratching and shouting!

Misty does have a lot of personality, for sure. She was so good this morning, too. Hope it continues today while I'm gone.

That's funny, Mickey. Your poor mother!

Chum - glad you're back and back on track. Are you going to post pictures of your small cat one of these days? Or is that TMI?

Chuckles -- these blasted flowers are work. But they are so pretty, they're worth it. Now if Misty doesn't dig them up, we'll be set.

McMarto -- can't help you with the sweet potatoes. I don't like them so the bf doesn't cook them. So sorry! I got most of the stuff done that I wanted to. It was a nice day off.

Anastasia -- are you still massaging in your dreams. You could dream of massaging me and I'll dream of getting massaged and maybe it'll be sort of like the real thing. Maybe. I need something.

Sigh.

Remind me not to take a day off work during the week. Look me ALL MORNING (like 2 hours) to get caught up.

Sad and pathetic that when you get used to doing nothing you feel like doing nothing. At least I do. I'm bored all day long but when something does come up I don't want to do it.

My but I hate this place.

Anyway. I worked out with Billy this morning. I'm going to take Misty for a walk tonight. I am going to eat small bits of healthy food today.

Tomorrow we are having a potluck for the first-wave departees. Then after work we are meeting at a local restaurant to have a proper bye-bye with people we actually want to be there and the first-wave departees. Which will no doubt circumvent any good that I will do today. 8-|

Their last day is Friday. :(

Hi kil
thanks for all the help with the network. we are installing in two weeks and configuring the server now. The presentations went well and the papers are in......

Maybe I missed the suggestion but did you try the little shockie collars? I don't know if they are cruel or not? Everytime someone gets a new animal and is training it I think of the book " The little Prince" it is such a classic. Sometimes I wonder who trains who.....lol

So alas are you still hefting those cubes around? My those are a compact and sweet to use. I still have my little exercse are. I haven't hung any clothes on it lately.....lol but it is a little dusty.....sigh

Hi CJ, nice to see you. I'm happy to hear that everything is going well with the network and it'll soon be over. Network design is supposed to be fun!

Ok, I guess not. Especially not with a million other things to do.

Consensus is that the shock collars are cruel. Having heard stories about them now, they certainly sound cruel. I'm not going to try that approach. Nor the muzzle, for that matter. The shunning thing is working really well.

I love my weight cubes. I still use them, though not nearly as regularly as I used to. I keep starting a program and saying, "this time I"m going to keep at it" only to stop after a week or so. But then I start up again in a couple of weeks. One of these days the start and stop phases will just blend together and I'll be lifting weights routinely like I want to.

Tomorrow will be 91 more days, I think. I have a little countdown clock on my computer at work that tells me these things. Don't have it here at home. Everyone says they are going to boycott the potluck tomorrow because it is company sponsored. The company is bringing in food from El Pollo Loco, which I can't eat (allergic to chicken). Hmmmpf. We are all supposed to bring in sides or dessert. No one I talked to plans to bring in anything. We'll see how this goes. I don't plan to bring anything, either.

My boss and I had a long, philosophical conversation this morning about job satisfaction versus salary. We decided that both would be lovely. Rumor has it that he is buying a car wash, so I'm guessing he's doing that for the money.

I've certainly seriously considered franchising something. Still am.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting this is a diet site. Well, eat less and move more, people! As shall I!

Hi Kilogo,

What are weight cubes?

Andrea

kilogo
10-17-02, 01:47 PM
And thank you to CJ for giving me an opportunity to expound on the best, most inventive weight-lifting device I have ever seen. I mean, really, whoever invented this needs to win the "thinking outside the box award." One of those things where you see it and smack yourself on the forehead and say, "well, duh! Why have we been doing it any other way for these last, oh, 200 years?"

The weight cubes are dumbbells. But not just any old dumbbells, oh no. With regular dumbbells you have to spin or slide a keeper off of a bar, remove and/or load plates, then spin or slide the keeper back on. PITA. Especially when you are lifting the BFL way and every set you lift a different amount of weight. Royal PITA. The weight cube's real name is SportBlock. With the Sportblock, the weights are stacked within each other. To get a new amount of weight, you just set the block down, move a pin, and tada- new amount of weight.

And as an added bonus, they have a girlie set that goes in 3lb increments. Lightest weight is 3lbs, and it goes up to 6,9,12,15, 18, and 21 lbs per dumbbell. They have a heavier version that goes in 5lb increments, too.

Yes, I'm really allergic to chicken. When I eat it, my face and hands start to itch and my throat closes up. No fun. No como pollo! Beady-eyed little cluckers.

I love cilantro. I grow it in my herb garden. Or try to, anyway. It's hard to grow successfully.

Bonus check and inability to find anything better is keeping me here. We are all wandering around aimlessly chanting bonus check bonus check bonus check these days. It's kind of like meditation.

I hate the boredom, too, Mickey. This is so very much not my nature to be a lazy slackard. bonus check bonus check bonus check

How do we feel about Waiting for Guffman? I didn't think it was nearly as funny as Best In Show.

Hi Kilogo,

You were right--my new avatar is my cat Sammy. And he does look a lot like tmayder's cat!

That shunning treatment is interesting. I might give it a try for door scratching! I never had a shocker collar for my dogs, although admittedly I was more put off by the price. But we did put up a shock wire around the rose garden. It only took about two times for the dogs to learn to stay out (this was long after they had chewed up the drip system, unfortunately). I got the shock myself once by accident--definitely unpleasant but not so much I felt guilty about it. Now it is turned off, though. I guess I put Ethan in a different class than me and the dogs!

I think that the vast majority of people are affected by the work level of those around them. You would be really strange if you didn't lose enthusiasm for that workplace. I hope Friday isn't a tremendous downer.

Boo hoo. I've not seen Best in Show, or Waiting for Guffman so I can't comment on either.

By the way, just so you don't think I'm a lazy slackard - I don't like doing nothing either - it drives me crazy.

kilogo
10-17-02, 03:21 PM
It didn't think that at all Mickey. Neither of us are lazy slackards! It's the environment that fosters that.

I wouldn't be averse to an electrical fence to keep her away from something. Then she just has to learn not to touch it and it's no big deal. The collar is always on, always with her, delivering a shock harsh enough to make her yelp. Not good.

The potluck has begun and there is little participation. The execs are in the lunchroom, standing around chatting and no doubt wondering where everyone is. We the people are going in there, grabbing some food, and going back to our desks. It is free food, after all.

And there is pumkin pie! (slobber)

I have yet to see Waiting for Guffman. It is on my list. I think Christopher Guest must be a very strange and funny man.

I think Jamie Lee Curtis seems very normal, she and C. Guest make an odd couple.

Did you say free food!!! My favourite kind.

Hi Kilo,

I was in the neighborhood, cruising a bit, and thought maybe I'd stopy by for a quick hello. I have been reading about your progress with Misty. I'm really glad that shunning is working for you. I've always heard that a dog looks at their master or mistress as the alpha dog in their pack, so if shunning in normal pack behavior, then it should be just the thing to do the trick.

I see you mentioned the face halter. Is that a "Halti" collar you use on her? I use one on my dog, and it does great in getting a dog to heel properly.

Oh yes, congratulations on your Angels for their success so far. Now do you think they have the series in the bag or what?

kilogo
10-17-02, 06:56 PM
Hi Sandie! No, nothing is ever in the bag. We think we have a fair chance, though. SF only has two power hitters and we have lots. Plus a good pitching staff (knock on wood). I have high hopes.

It's the Halti collar, yes. Love that thing. Works far better than a choke chain.

Oh you are so right, Mcmarto. I can already see it coming. Aaaargggghhh! I'll be stuck here forever [-X .

No, it'll just seem like forever.

I didn't know Christopher Guest and JLCurtis were an item. I don't get out much, remember. Just enough to know littel tidbits about Mickey Rourke, that's all.

Hooray for free food! And likely free drinks tonight!

And there is pumkin pie! (slobber)

Interesting move there. I bet you get the whole pie to yourself, don't ya? :)

Those power blocks look intersting. However, I don't use weights, I use tayder sacks. Here's how it goes:

Begin by standing with a 5-LB potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out to your sides and hold them there as long as you can. After a few weeks, move up to 10-LB potato sacks and then 50-LB potato sacks, and finally get to where you can lift a 100-LB potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.

Next, start putting just a few potatoes in the sacks, but be careful not to overdo it.

Am I in a corny mood this morning or what?

kilogo
10-18-02, 03:46 PM
Dat's funny, tmayder!

I think I'll send that to my grandmother. She has been told to start lifting weights and she doesn't want to do it. She's 92. She'll love it.

I suppose slobbering all over the pie would make it all mine, wouldn't it? But I cut myself a small piece and just slobbered over it. It was yummy.

Interesting developments in my life. But today is layoff day, so I am swamped processing phones, computers, accounts, etc. No time to write it all. So I'll sum up . . .

Trip to Dallas nailed down. Conflicts with my Tampa trip. Negotiated my way out of that one and I am now flying straight from Tampa to Dallas.

The bf stays in Tampa on his business trip for a full week, so Misty has 7 full days to be alone and bark herself senseless. Not good.

I've been exploring options -- boarding her, finding someone to house sit as well as Misty sit and prevent her from barking all day. What to do?

Then lo and behold, opportunity and inspiration combined last night, as I have an Misty solution. But no time to write about it now. Will tell you later!

10-18-02, 05:29 PM
Ok, lunchtime means writin' time.

Last night we had the happy hour thing for the people who were let go today -- the first wave departees. It was fun. Lots of people showed up. Including my boss. The Executive Vice President. The beaner in the big office. He's getting the boot, too, so he's more and more on our side these days than on the side of the mgmt that is staying.

He's a good guy. I like him. He's mentioned in the past that his kids keep bugging him to let them have a dog but he doesn't want a dog because he's afraid it'll dig up his landscaping and burn holes in his lawn with dog poop piles and any other doggie horror story that's he's heard.

His kids are 12 and 14. I keep telling him that they need a dog, that a dog is a big part of any kids childhood and he is robbing them of that.

So as he was sitting across from me, drinking beer and chatting with fellow employees, I had an inspiration. I offered to let him demo my dog for a week so he and his kids could try out a dog and see how it goes. The first week of November, to be exact.

And he went for it! Ha ha! So Misty is going to get boarded at a massive mansion in the hills and get to play with rich children for a week.

Far better than hauling her off to doggie prison (kennel), I thought.

He called later that night and said he'd discussed it with his wife and she liked the idea, too. So it's set! I asked him this morning if he'd changed his mind and he laughed. Said, no, the kids are all excited about it.

Misty the demo dog.

I'll give him the phone number of the friend who normally Misty sits who will come get her if she is more than they can handle.

Oh - and the Exec VP talked about his new car wash, too. He bought it at an auction. Got it for a steal at 3.25 million dollars. For which he had to pay cash, because those were the auction rules. You had to pay $100,000 just to participate in this auction.

Lordy.

He doesn't normally talk about his finances like that, but I think the beer loosened his tongue a bit.

mcmarto
10-18-02, 07:13 PM
Yowza!

Who the hell knew a carwash cost so damn much?...Are they washing with bottled water?...hahahaha!

Aren't you afraid that Misty may not want to come back after she gets a look at that mansion grass?...hooha!

Well I will chime in on the martha stewart thing. Granted I haven't been following her the last few weeks but I think she did what everyone else does. I wonder who she pissed off to get her gander fried like that. I like her craftiness but never do much of that stuff. With Kmart going under I seriously think that she is in for a rough ride.

So kil.. Tampa and Dallas? You jet setter you. what a darling idea for the doggy. you know while we are onto animal training. I don't know much about barking but I trained my cat to lay down and to fetch and to come the first time he is called all from only using positive reenforcement. Everytime he does something I don't like I just redirected him and it worked like a charm. We love to go to the park on doggy nights and watch the people taking their dogs to doggy classes they are always so much fun to watch since we dont' have our own right now....sigh

that is a great idea about the week thing too much better than a kennell.

Don't worry, Kill, Nanners is going around thanking everyone today. She is in a sweet, loving mode.

But then when it is my turn to leave a post and I have to follow her, then I feel like a heel. haha

Kill, you are the bestest friend a girl could ever have. You are cute and sweet and absolutely supportive. Glad you decided to stay on DT way back when and didn't let the buggers drive you away. Love, love, love. All said with sincerity.

I mean it.

Excellent idea with the demo dog. Excellent. I demo'd out my last cat to my friend a few times. They never got an animal, but her son loved it. So, she figured a kitty vacation for him was just the thing. I always picked her up b/4 the newness wore off, so he always took very good care of her and my animal-hating friend (his mom) never had to clean a litter box. I always knew we were sisters in brilliance.

I was giggling over the Perrier car wash. Very funny..

I agree with CJ on the Martha Stewart thing. Every day, Americans are seeing just how messed up our system of pay is in corporate America. I mean, the CEO of United Airlines can make several million dollars (while the flight attendants make $20K-something) and get all kinds of ridiculous perks and yet United qualifies for government bailouts after the terrorism attacks and is always threatening to go belly-up. I mean, jeez. It's insane what the top folks make. Here's a stat for you. B/w 1995 and 2000, CEOs' salaries increased by 800% -- really -- while, minimum wage only increased minimally, if at all. The rich got richer, the poor poorer. What a shame.

:sb

Kill, how has your working out been going? Those weights are cool-o. The thought of you slobbering over pumpkin pie is hysterical. I love, love, LOVE pumpkin pie. mmmmm

OK, have a wonderful Saturday. What will you be doing???

Why the outpouring of love and affection? I mean, goshk, you're making me blush. But thank you! Makes me feel good.

I'm glad I stayed, too :o .

What will I be doing today??? Why watching the Angels play in game one of the WORLD SERIES. With my red Angels t-shirt on and Rally Monkey in hand. Go Angels!

That's at 4:30. Before then, I'm going to be continuing to plant ground cover until that flat is all planted. Remind me not to buy so many flats next time. This has been going on all week.

And we are nearly out of coffee, so a Trader Joe's run is in our future. I'll take Misty with me, continue her socialization experiences.

I'm glad you guys approve of Misty the demo dog idea. After I'd done it I was second-guessing myself -- is this a good idea? Is she going to bark all day long and run through his flowers and ruin his yard?

But I think she'll be fine. And he has the fallback -- he can call friend Jeanne to come get her if needed.

Perrier car wash -- funny!

Ok, Martha Stewart. Simply from the insider trading perspective: A friend calls and says, Martha, you really need to sell this stock, fast. This friend is the owner of the company who's stock she is to sell. You'd think he knew something. Even if he didn't come right out and give her details, she knew he knew what he was talking about and said, "oh, ok thanks, I'll sell right away." This is clearly insider trading. Would I have done the same thing if I were her? Absolutely.

I think the guilty one here is the Imclone CEO who called her and others and told them to dump their stock. He was acting illegally and unethically.

All the other issues -- like Martha is a beech, someone is out to get Martha, she's going down and she deserves it -- well, I don't really know enough about all that to comment. Her show bores me silly and her magazine is expensive and doesn't interest me either. She makes a truly incredible wedding cake. That's about as much as I know about Martha Stewart.

Busy last night? Moi? You mean catching up after my busy day at work? Yes.

I'll talk more about my Dallas/Tampa trip later. Talked enough for one post, I guess.

Take care all.

Go Angels!

And remember -- Barry Bonds was a wife beater until she divorced him for spousal abuse. Barry Bonds plays for the SF Giants. In my book, that makes it very hard to root for the Giants.

I saw a small piece with the Angels on The Tonight Show. Did you see it? They sent Arsenio Hall to the ball field to chat with some of the players. It was amusing.

I'll be watching the game and rooting for your team. Hopefully there are no Aussies reading this because rooting means something else in Australia. I am sure they enjoyed the Canadian Olympic Team in Sydney, they were outfitted by Roots Canada.

Sorry about the game and sorry about getting your reputation in trouble. I have lowered the quality of your journal by saying naughty words.

I agree with you regarding Barry Bonds. It is strange that people can overlook all these issues and still cheer for him. If athletes win games they can be forgiven for anything. Though you would have a hard time finding a team without a player that has "anger issues".

Hi everybody!

Wow, multiple visits overnight. Great!

Sandie -- if my reputation suffers from all the penis and ****zu and rooting and shagging and snogging talk, so be it! One thing I learned while running the charter boat -- the captain is ultimately responsible for everything. Even if you are asleep in your bunk, you are responsible for what happens on your boat.

Since this is my journal, I consider myself the captain of it. So carry on, mates! Mention ****zus and penises all you want! I take full responsibility.

And I participate myself :D .

Yes, my poor Angels lost. But it's early yet and we didn't expect to sweep this series, so it's ok. If they don't win tonight, then we worry. I think they will win tonight.

I spell it Angles almost every time I write it and have to go back and fix it.

Troy Percival is very shaggable, I think. Barry Bonds is contemptible.

McMarto at the Joffrey Ballet. How fun! The bf and I used to go to the local Repertory company and see a play about once a month. After him sleeping through about the fourth play in a row I decided we didn't need to waste the money on it any more. I'd still like to go, but not with him. Sorry honey! Not gonna pay $50 so you can get all dressed up and snore.

I'm glad you liked the ballet. Did you go with DH? Did he like it?

Let's see here . . . babysitting two of the cutest dogs in the world while you're cooking all manner of gourmet food? I can do that! The rotti and the wheaton too, while I'm at it. It's a deal!

Sorry the job is sucking worse, pumpkinpengiihead. I'm ready to go, anytime. Well, ok, in 89 days. That's a guess -- my countdown clock is at work and I'm at home right now.

Chum, talk to Pengii about the difference between the Angels and the A's. Although we do have earthquakes down here, too.

The beloved is talking about a trip to Baja again. Lobster cravings. So we got two lobster tails and grilled them last night in anticipation of that trip. Yummy! We won't be able to go there until December, probably. Just before Christmas.

Hi Kilogo!

I saw bits and pieces of tonight's Angels game. It looks like it would have been exciting to attend, but I'm just not a real fan or excited by baseball on TV. I didn't win the office pool for either Game 1 or Game 2. :(

Your BF sleeping through plays! That's too bad. Actually, I can relate--my ex-husband fell asleep during a play at my college. Unfortunately I knew a lot of the folks involved in the production from my Shakespeare class (it was about 1/2 drama majors and 1/2 English majors), and some of them noticed him sleeping there. After the first act he went out and slept in the car. Well, maybe one of your friends would like to go to the plays.

You were an English Lit minor, weren't you? The stuff I pick up in other people's journals...

Hi Kil

I take it the Angels won yesterday??? I bet you're on the ceiling today!

I followed the link you gave - it nearly made me cry. I just think that it's such a difficult thing to get over, something like bulimia - it just never goes away and even if you can manage to eat "normally" it's always in the back of your mind that you need to purge everything you eat. I read Marya Hornbacher's book "Wasted" and I just felt so useless. I really hope she finds some help, although I think you're right - email and chat just aren't enough.

On a happier note, it's great to hear that you are planning another trip - although you didn't make the last one did you? We watched The Mexican last night, and quite enjoyed it (although I think it got slated by the critics).

The other thing I had to tell you (and this is weird - please don't get scared, I'm not a psycho stalker or anything) is that I had a dream about you and the bf. I came to live with you. Now, I said don't get scared, it was only a dream. Anyway, your house was gorgeous, it had really big white wooden doors. I think your mum and dad were there too, and definitely Misty. I don't know why I dreamt about you, I know I had been reading your journal on Friday...

That link is so sad. Is this person a friend of yours? I think some therapy would really help, though DT is also an excellent resource. But the problem sounds so serious, that I think some more professional assistance could be of benefit. I hope she has access to it.

I was going to write some other, incredibly witty, stuff, but after reading that link, I think I'll pass until later this afternoon...

Have a great day Kill. I really treasure our friendship.

Hi peeps!

Yahoo, Angels! That was one exciting game, wow. And we are now all tied up 1-1. On to San Francisco!

Mickey - aaarrgghh! :tomato: Just kidding. That's funny. Our house is cute and charming, not exactly gorgeous. But the front door is white and wooden. Ooooooo, freaky. :eyes: You could come when mum and dad are here, for sure. Compare them to your in-laws

We didn't make the last trip to Mexico, true. So we are extra-ready to go now. But first, we are going to Tampa and then I'm going to Dallas and then we're probably headed to Nevada for Thanksgiving with the parentals. Then Mexico. Busy busy busy.

I could take friends to the plays, and have. It's fun. The most annoying part about the bf is he wakes up and starts going on and on about the play, "that was great. I really enjoyed that. Great play. Really great play. That was really good." On and on for hours. Despite my telling him to SHUT UP every time he says that. We have such fun.

Yep, English Lit minor. Heavy on the Shakespeare. I hope your friends weren't devastated by your boorish ex. But maybe it was good training for their future. It's funny, I've seen a lot of men with their chins on their chests, snoozing away during these plays. I don't think they are boring at all. Most of them.

Liz, the woman in the link, is not a personal friend. She has an online journal which I found and started reading a few months ago. It's fascinating reading, very funny in spots. But she does have some big time problems. She's seen several shrinks and been on Prozac and Ritalin and other suchlike drugs off and on over the years. She's gained and lost about 150 lbs two or three times now. At the moment she's a size 8 as a result of gastric bypass surgery with significant complications. And she's still bulemic. And chances are very high that she's going to follow the link back to here from her site. So, HI LIZ! See, people who don't even know you care about you. And we think you should start seeing a shrink again. Why be miserable when there is help out there? Go. Go now.

Too busy for words today. Must go. Will write more later.

Hi,

When is the next game? I stopped watching last night then they ended up winning. I am one of those freaky people that thinks they bring bad luck to teams. It is such a stupid way to be. I could hardly watch the Men's Hockey Final from Salt Lake City. I had to keep turning off the TV.

I read part of that journal but had to stop. Way too depressing. I may go back and check it out. I didn't read the part about Ritalin. Was it prescribed? It makes me nervous as I take a low dose of Ritalin. It has clear appetite suppressant side effects. They wear off in time making it tempting to increase the dosage. I will never do that.

Your travel sounds exciting to me. I has been too long since I took a proper trip. I may try to visit California this year. I will meet up with Anastasia in Beverly Hills. Perhaps we could head South and visit you. Everyone talks about how they are quiet and anti social, all talking takes the form of the written word. Would it be strange to meet in person? I actually am not at all quiet. I talk too much. Can you tell???

Have a great day!!

Hi -- a little break in the action.

I have three days to get everything up and ready to ship to Dallas. Don't give me ****zu about not starting this earlier because this stuff just became free on Friday (people got laid off -- their equipment becomes free). So -- rapid-fire server and exchange installation as well as rounding up all the extra bits. AAAAh.

Anyway.

If you read her whole journal -- it goes back a few years at least, you'll get her story. Start at www.iguanapalooza.com/goodswiftkick and the 1999 entries. She really is riotously funny most of the time. I don't think she's on any medication right now, but I'm not sure.

When you come out to California, come on down to see me! It'd be fun. I am quiet. And have never had my eyebrows done (and probably should). A day without makeup, wearing comfy jeans and a sweatshirt, is a good day for me. That's me. I'm not a total cringing flower, though. I can carry on a conversation. You can be the judge of that!

Afraid to watch -- funny. A group of us were talking just last week about the silly things people do because they are afraid they'll affect the outcome of the game. Many can't watch. One said she couldn't go to the bathroom if a rally was on or else they'd get out. One said her husband refused to flip the meat on the bbq while the Angels were up, knowing if he did they'd get out. Let the meat burn.

There were some times last night when I almost couldn't take it and wanted to turn the channel. But I made myself be brave and watch. And they still won! Whoosh.

Silly. Definitely.

Oh, today is a travel day. They play again Tues at 5pm PST.

Oh, well, I certainly am antisocial (by my own, slightly strange, definition) a lot of the time, but it is not b/c I am quiet. Far from it. It is sometimes impossible to shut me up. Actually, I think I am antisocial b/c of laziness. I love it when people come to visit me, especially when we are chatting a long time in our cozy apartment. And I love to write letters and send little gifts. I have a lot of friends, but I just like my own company, I guess. I love hanging out with DLIP. I even love hanging out with other people once I get there. I just don't really like the phone (except to talk to my mom and dad) much. And it is just hard to get me started.

Why did I put all that in your journal? I guess it was Nanners' food for thought.

I hope you get good BBQ while you are in Dallas. I think you could probably find something good there...and even healthy, if you got chicken. Good steaks, too. Will you get to go zoom around any and see stuff?

Funny you mention eyebrows in your post!

I attempted to pluck...long ago...but it hurt too much...then the visiting Pug's mom.....she is a hairdresser and does waxing...she waxed my eyebrows many years back.....and when she was done she asked me how I felt...I was like.......well...I am in pain...her thoughts were I should feel lighter cause she trimmed them down sooooooo...but you know what?...Not one person noticed...so I never did it again...I enjoy my full eyebrows...they fit in with the rest of me!...and....I don't wear any make-up...well lipstick on occasion!...

Hope you had a great day!...

Yes, I have thick eyebrows too and I like 'em fine. I look like some exotic Mediterranean woman, instead of some hick from the boondocks. hahaha

I don't own lipstick. I really need to make myself more girley.

Is there a game tonight Kill?

kilogo
10-22-02, 01:06 PM
One of my New Year's resolutions last year was to become more girlie. Girliness is not in my nature, but I thought I ought to fake it more. Just feminize myself a tad. I upped the makeup volume a bit and I kind of like it.

Then I went to the Clinique counter and told them to colorize me, so they picked out a nice light foundation and a lipstick that I really like. I told them that I didn't want to look like I was wearing makeup, or much makeup, so they picked very natural looking colors that look great. I was impressed.

Now if I'd just put the stuff on.

Well, I do sometimes. I am trying. Mostly because the bf is so damned beautiful and I feel like the bloated toad whenever we're out together. When we're alone I prefer au natural.

It is nice to have the right colors and a decent quality of stuff so that you're not always fighting the makeup. I could never stand the feel of foundation, either, Chum, but this light stuff I don't even notice.

Wow, an dissertation in makeup in MY journal. Who would have thought?

I do pluck the brows on my own. Mostly for uni-brow avoidance. Just never had it professionally "done".

Angels are a-playin' tonight, yes they are. In San Francisco. Game starts at 5 PST. Or pre-game stuff then and game at 5:30.

Go Angels!

Hey, which foundation did you buy? Does it rub off on your clothes?

kilogo
10-22-02, 01:57 PM
It's called "Almost Makeup" by Clinique. Doesn't rub off on clothes. It has SPF 15, which your olive skin probably doesn't need.

While I'm passing out advice here, let me share this one with you:

When dealing with lobster shells, remember that tossing said shells into compost pile can result in their return to you in the form of dog barf on the living room floor.

Who knew?

kilogo
10-22-02, 05:22 PM
Oh what? A little dog barf story put you all off?

For all you bicycle riders out there, here's a story of one person's first century ride. A 30-something chick who's lost about 60 lbs so far, I think, and has a ways to go still. I thought it was interesting, anyway. http://www.bitterhag.com/current.asp . It's the Oct. 20th entry if this link doesn't take you directly to it.

Yes, I know. I read too many journals. Like there aren't enough here at DT to keep me busy.

Hello. Dog barf did not keep me away. I just finished my Vedral upper weight workout and the 3 mile DVD and I'm off to return some stuff to the library and to the cleaners.

Even dog barf couldn't keep me away from you.

Thanks for the foundation suggestion...

I agree. Your journal, dear Anne, is perhaps one of the most ecclectic on the site.

And hey, there's something for everyone! From dog barf and the Angels to eyebrow, foundation and Shakespeare.

My particular life bible begins like this: Before the Beatles, there was Shakespeare. So I personally love all of the English lit talk.

And even though I'm not too into make-up (though I wear a bit daily - it takes me like, TOtally 3 minutes to apply) and don't give a hoot about baseball, I nevertheless always leave your jounral with a look like this:

:D on my face.

kilogo
10-22-02, 07:24 PM
Well, I think Morgayne was referring to the Bitter Hag's site, but thank you anyway! I'm so happy to be considered ecclectic.

I spend like, three minutes, with make-up too, fer sure. :D In the morning. Just a bit. Just enough to say, "yes, I AM a girlie-girl, look at me putting on makeup!"

Well, really, just enough to try to even out the skin tone a bit.

Shakespeare

We saw a play called "The Bard of Avon" last year. For people knew their Shakespeare inside and out, it was a riot. But the bf, who sleeps through many plays as previously reported, is only so into Shakespeare. Read it as required in college, and claims to have liked it, but never pursued it beyond that class. He slept through this play, too. His loss.

Dog barf, Shakespeare, baseball, eyebrows, etc. Was there any diet talk in there? Why no, there was not!

I really need to work on that.

mcmarto
10-22-02, 07:42 PM
Well I did mention that after my eyebrows were waxed I was told I should fee "lighter"...this is kind of diet talk?...hahahaha!

Well I have considered going to a counter and letting them make me up........but I just never get around to it!...I onced watched a friend put her face on...she put about 6 coats on before she was done!...That was only her face!...Then she complains that she has a lot of break outs...HELLO!...How about easing up on the make-up!.....Anyway!

I walked...not very long......but it's a start!

"Go Angels!"...mcmarto

I think I've been so off-kilter lately that what I read hasn't been sinking in right. Morgayne apparently WAS referring to that other site... :o I also misinterpreted a post that Nanny made in my jounral yesterday. Once I move I should be back to being able to process info. like a normal person!!!

And, yes, you'll notice that every several weeks or so I will gingerly ask "So, how goes it with the DIET and EXERCISE?' But even if you never mention calories, aerobics, metabolism, or the like, your journal IS a blast, applying make-up need NOT take longer than a few minutes, and Shakespeare does tend to either intrigue OR bore people until they are comatose.

kilogo
10-22-02, 08:02 PM
Well, I do mention sweating with Billy now and then. And I do remember you asking that. But I just plugged my ears and started humming at the time so I didn't hear it  .

Processing like a normal person. Soon, soon! Friday is the big day? How exciting. At last, Anastasia!

I know a black lab named Anastasia. Or of a black lab named Anastasia, anyway. (hi Lizzie!)

McMarto -- you're right. Getting lighter through eyebrow pluckage IS diet talk. Ha, I'm vindicated.

Ever since I read that this morning I've been picturing you with your head dropping on your desk from the sheer weight of your eyebrows. Then your friend miraculously saving you from this miserable life of heavy brow-edness that you've been living.
"How do you feel?" she asks, after carefully completing her operation.

"Uplifted! Joyous! I can hold my head up now. I don't have to lie it on the desk! Thank you, Thank you," you gush.

I mean, what was she thinking?

I got a kick out of it anyway.

Glad you liked the link, Morgayne. She is funny.

And go, go, go Chumlette! Exercise queen.

Hey,

My boss stayed home today and hogged the computer. I was cut off this morning and haven't been on since. I am having withdrawal but have only 10 minutes until Buffy.

I enjoy all this make up talk. Though I often wear make up It would not take me over 5 minutes to apply. Probably 2 minutes. I don't look like a mall chick or anything. All very natural. I have dark circles under my eyes so I need concealer and foundation. Then I colour my brows, curl my lashes, apply mascara, natural coloured blush, and lip stick. I don't wear it everyday, but I do feel better with make up and high heels.

I will be back later.

I know you're probably watching the Angels...hey, I could turn it on! What a daring thought. Go Angels! (Strictly in support of you, I'm afraid).

Boy, I feel positively pancaked up compared to most of you! I've fallen into a bad habit of getting my foundation on at home (only one coat mind you) and applying eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, blusher and semi-permanent lipstick once I get to work. This last bunch doesn't take more than five minutes. I'll have to get it all done at home on the new job...wouldn't want them to get a true impression of my slacker-ness right off the bat! I am very fair-skinned so when I go without make-up I tend to look ill.

Thanks for the dog barf warning! This has actually been a recurring problem at our house (albeit not with lobster shells). My Samoyed loves to eat these undigestible seed pods and other detritus, then throw up in the middle of the night. My DH swears that she does it on purpose (to get outside early? I'm not clear what the purpose would be). Me, I just think she gets bored during the day.

I missed your ball game as Buffy was on and after Buffy I watch Angel.

Freaky, I watched Angel and you watched the Angels.

I just checked and I see that the game is still in progress. Things look pretty damn good and it is the 8th inning.

I am sure I parted infinite wisdom upon you since the day I defined shagging. Hmmm... I wonder if I am hitting the wrong button or sumpin?

Eyebrows. I've never had decent eyebrows. Even when I have them professionally shaped they don't look quite right. When I was a kid my mother used to pick on me for weird eyebrows. I am eyebrow sensitive, that's it.

Those with heavy eyebrows can at least avoid a qwerty on their foreheads should their heads fall upon the keyboard.

Cheers!

Yes! The Angels won handily. They played like a Championship team, yes they did. So they are now up 2-1 in the series. Game 4 is tonight at 5.

You are all great Angel supporters!

*****

Time to get serious here.

I did my daily morning routine. Got up, worked out, took shower, brushed teeth, got dressed. No big deal.

It shouldn't be, anyway. I want working out every day to be a necessary part of my life, just like brushing my teeth and taking a shower. No huge focus on it, no obsesssing about it, no lost sleep over it. Just something I do.

When I fininshed the BFL program those many months ago I thought maybe I was ready to just call this my lifestyle rather than having to be "On a Program" of some sort.

But alas, I find that I am not to that point yet. My workouts have been sporadic and not always very intense.

Similar story with the eating. My diet is pretty good. I eat plenty of fruits and veggies, every day. I drink lots of water. I eat my grains and fish. I lean towards organic and vegatarian. No huge problem there. But I find myself slacking a bit and eating a chocolate bar here and a birthday cake there. It adds up.

You've noted my lack of writing about the diet and the exercise in this journal. Well, it's been for a reason. I want it to be a lifestyle, not anything really worth writing about. Just something I do.

But, I must admit failure on this point. I am not there yet. I still have high hopes of getting there, but I am not there yet. I have been hovering at the same weight, plus or minus 5 lbs, all summer long and now into fall. THIS MUST CHANGE!

So I am going back to accountability. I must say I have really enjoyed the "stat-free" nature of my existence here at Diettalk. Since I went stat-free and started this new journal, not one person has said, "oh you're not THAT fat" and "you probably look fine as you are." No, I don't.

I am, as of this morning, 23 pounds over my goal weight.

Just as a side note, if you ever feel the urge to say, "you're not THAT fat" to someone, try substituting any other negative word in there and see how it sounds: "You're not THAT stupid" "You're not THAT ugly" "You're not THAT skanky." See what I mean? It's offensive and insulting.

Anyway. I am getting nowhere with this weight-loss effort of mine. So back to accountability I go. Back to a "program" of working out every day (with 1 day off for rest). Weights and cardio. With intensity. My diet, as I said, is pretty good, but it can be cleaned up a bit too.

I am doing that. I am going to put "23 lbs to go" in my stats and count it down as I go. I'll join your Losing it for Love thing, Chum. Before there just wasn't any point because my weight wasn't moving.

I am committing to this until I reach my goal, and then until I feel it truly is a no-big-deal routine, just like brushing my teeth.

Which means -- new journal time. Pity, too, because I really like the name of this one. Life is still frickin chaotic but the workouts can be orderly. I'm going to try an IT trick or two and see if I can start another journal with the same or similar title. I hope to see you there!

kilogo
10-26-02, 04:07 PM
New journal exists. For those of you who haven't found it yet, it's called "Chaos & Order. And More."

I hope to hear from you there!
