There are several aspects that concern everyone irregardless of what weight loss program we utilize. Those of us who are approaching our "golden years" need to be more mindful ..... so I am presenting you with information you can either respond to or reject.

CAN WE TRUST NUTRITION INFORMATION WE RECEIVE FROM MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPER ARTICLES?

Nutrition information are oftimes conflicting ...... when in doubt check with your physician -- here are some things to think about:
THERE IS NO "MAGIC POTION" when it comes to nutrition; one weight loss program doesn't meet every individuals needs. It is essential we each find a program that meets our nutritonal needs.
If you are using vitamins ..... REMEMBER taking a vitamin is to ensure you're getting enough vitamins and minerals BUT OUR BODIES BENEFIT THE MOST FROM EATING HEALTHY FOODS.
Eating different kinds of foods is best for our bodies; WE NEED TO LEARN TO TRY NEW FOODS. Remember the adage "Variety is The SPICE of LIFE".
WE KNOW ..... fad diets offer short term results, but our good health comes from LONG TERM EFFORT AND COMMITMENT.
LET US NOT BE FOOLED ..... stories about people who have used a weight loss program or product ARE PROMOTED TO INCREASE THE SALE OF THE PROGRAM OR PRODUCT .... you don't know about the after effects.

Each one of us has learned through time and our personal experience WHAT WE CAN DO TO SUCCEED ...... so let's prove TO OURSELVES ---- age doesn't hinder our success; ONLY OUR NEGATIVITY HINDERS THAT.

Please add your thoughts to this forum. We can only learn and benefit if we all contribute. Always, Monica

Here are some thoughts that I read on another site.

It is a common myth to believe that fasting will work to help you lose weight but it actually does the opposite! Here's how it works.

Your body is a sophisticated machine and it keeps track of everything you do in ways you may not realize! When you eat regularly, small meals several times a day, your body (in simplistic terms) says "This is great! We have plenty of fuel coming in, no worries, crank up the engine boys, let's burn some energy!" Your metabolism stays up and you burn more fuel.

Now, when you skip meals and make your system go more than a few hours without nutrition, your body thinks it may be a start of a famine and will begin slowing down your metabolism right away! Your body is now saying, "Slow it down boys, this might be the start of something bad, let's hold off on burning much more right now and turn the energy fire down! No telling how long this will last!" This is why we need to eat our meals and snacks so our system receives adequate nutrition all day, enabling your body to believe there is regular and constant nutriition coming in! "Crank up the engine boys" so to speak. So the next time you think that skipping that snack of meal is going to help, think again about what you are telling your body.

Just keep in mind what you are eating to be sure your body is getting the nutrition that it needs.

Hope this helps someone and please, as Monica says, add your thoughts.
