We all have to be aware of prevention and treatment of colds and flu ...... because it affects us by creating other health issues.

PREVENTION: The best defense is a good offense.

Limit physical contact with the cold sufferer. HUGGING, KISSING AND SHAKING HANDS ARE SURE WAYS TO INCUR SICKNESS.

Limit contact with cold sufferer's environment. Viruses live on surfaces like tabletops, countertops, etc.. Clearly mark a sick person's drinking glass as OFF LIMITS by putting a rubber band around it. Use common sense when dealing with a cold sufferer.

COLD TREATMENT:
Time of course is the best healer if you are suffering from a cold: DRINK PLENTY OF LIQUIDS, GET PLENTY OF REST.

OVER THE COUNTER REMEDIES:

DECONGESTANTS which can open up airways and make breathing easier CAN ELEVATE BLOOD PRESSURE ; IF YOU SUFFER FROM HEART OR BLOOD PRESSURE PROBLEMS SEE AND SPEAK TO YOUR PHYSICIAN; and

COUGH MEDICINES to suppress MILD COUGHING; if a cough isn't bothersome LEAVING IT ALONE IS BETTER; SEVERE COUGHING needs to be suppressed AND REQUIRES PRESCRIPTION THERAPY; and

ANALGESICS which reduce fever in adults: aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen.


INFLUENZA: Influenza which includes high fever, headaches, intense coughing and muscle pains YOU NEED TO BE SEEN BY YOUR PHYSICIAN.

If your symptoms are a fever over 102 degrees, bad sore throat, a cough that produces green or brown flem .... or if the flu lasts longer than SEVEN (7) DAYS ..... YOU NEED TO BE SEEN BY YOUR PHYSICIAN.

If you are experiencing nausea, diarrhea, vomiting .... YOU NEED TO BE SEEN BY YOUR PHYSICIAN.
