Hi:
My name is Amy Walton and I am an Associate Producer with the newly formed documentary unit at CTV (Canadian Television Network). I am currently developing a documentary about eight loss issues and my plan is to follow a young woman through her dieting experience.
I am looking for a woman in the Toronto area who wants to lose approximately 25-30 lbs. and is interested in Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers. WE will pick up the tab for the program and will follow you through the process of starting a diet and an exercise program, with the utmost dignity and respect.
You can contact me at awalton@ctv.ca. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Amy Walton
Hmmm...seems to me Canadian Living did this story a few years ago, with a lady named Terry Poulton. Yes, she lost the weight. Yes she had her face spread across Canada on the cover of Canadian Living. Guess what? She gained it all back and has since written a book about the experience called "No Fat Chicks."
The problem with documentaries like this, is that they don't do the follow up. They don't watch the person regain the weight, and lose their self esteem. They don't see the metabolism slowing down so that it takes less calorie intake to gain weight. They pay for Jenny Craig, but will they pay for a new wardrobe when she gains back the 25 lbs plus 10 more? Likely not.
Just my .02 cents.

That was unfortunate for the person who gained the weight back. Evidentaly they werent trying very hard to keep it off. Why bash the reporter or tv show for that? Besides if you already planned on starting a diet you can get Jenny Craig for free and for someone who cant afford it it would be wonderful. If I lived in Canda and had that much to lose I'd do it. I think watching someone battle a weight problem is a wonderful idea. You get to see how they deal with it and what they eat and how much weight they lose. Once the weight is gone its up to you to keep it off. I've lost 16lbs so far and only have 9 left to lose and I would gladly plaster my pictures anywhere.
Melissa Duffy wasn't bashing anyone or anything.. She was just statin a point and an experience of someone that faced success only to face disappointment. The only true way to lose weight is through healthy eating and not gimmick or fad diets...
Why is it every time you make an 'against the norm' statement on here, you are accused of bashing someone or something? What happened to the DT where we could voice our own opinions no matter how contrary they were to popular opinion? Sad it's gone!

Sorry Amy, I dont think you'll find any support here. I bet if you placed an add in the newspaper you would find alot of people willing to give it a try.
Who said anything about gimmicks or fads? I think weight watchers or Jenny Craig is a great place to start your battle. You can find lots of support and people in similar situations.
