I'm researching the effectiveness of hypnosis on weight loss.

Having been on and off diets for years and years and years, I've just reached the end of my rope. The Sunday newspaper always has this page-size ad from a local hypnosis clinic, touting how successful it has been .... with before and after photos, testimonials of quick, easy weight loss, etc., etc., etc.,... you all know the drill.

I know good and well that those testimonials could easily be fake or paid for or any number of things, and I don't intend to pour any more of my self-esteem or my money into something that's just a way to line the pockets of a person cashing in on other people's desperation.

So .... that said .... have any of you ever used hypnosis or know anyone who has? Was it successful ... in any way whatsoever?

Thanks for any comments you have!

There was a post about this a couple months back. You could use the search feature and read up on it there.

I know someone who is on it but since I see her everyday I can't tell if it's working or not. She said that she does find herself being healthier and eating what the nutritionist told her to (which she told the hypnosis tape creator). She also says it puts her to sleep really fast. :) It's been over half a year and she's no skinny minnie though, but she may have had a lot to lose.

Hi, I was hypnotized a while ago, and so was my friend...it does work! BUT, you have to really listen to the tapes after...EVERY night. I enjoy being hypnotized, it is a great way to get rid of stress, it's just a really cool experience. I will tell you a few things about my trys at it. The first time, I saw an add for a man that was doing a seminar at the local Days Inn. I went and it was 50 bucks, there was about 100 people there. I liked that man, he gave us a tape to listen to for 30 days after everynight, and this paper that had this post hypnotic suggestion on it that we had to read twice a day. It really worked, I lost about 20 pounds, then I stopped listening to the tapes! MY BAD! I was well over 300 pounds at that time, so anything under that mark was great. I then saw a friend that I hadn't seen in along time, she had been my size, and she was about a size 18!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes! I asked her what she did and she told me she was hypnotized. I got the # of the guy and made an appointment, this time it was a private session and it was $100. I liked the private session much better, it was more quite, and I just feel it was worth the money. I had to listen a tape again, and it really worked! I lost alot I went from 300 to about 187. I then stopped listening to it, and after years have gained back some of the weight. I think that it is worth it, if you will listen to those after tapes faithfully. I think that hypnotism works along with a good work out plan and better eating. I am sure I am rambling on, I hope that I have been of some help! Anyway you look at it, it's a really cool experience, it really reduces stress, and its up to you if you listen to the after tapes it works, if ya don't, it won't work! Good luck, let me know if you go or not!

yup! i've been there... i tried hypnosis... wasn't all that helpful... it cost about $80 a visit, and the hypnotist made me tapes i was supposed to listen to several times a day... she just kept repeating things like "you love water... water is gooooood... you feel yourself getting lighter and lighter..." yadda yadda yadda... it was relaxing in that it was nice to sit in a comfy lazy boy and vent on someone who wasn't biased or tired of my rantings, but i dont' think it really helped... i still don't like water and have to force myself to get my 8 glasses in a day... and i REALLY don't feel lighter... hehehe... but it may work differently for everyone since it's a mental thing...
