Next weekend I am visiting my grandma, who I love dearly, but loves to cook and bake tons of goodies for us to eat. Last time I visited for the weekend, I ended up gaining 3 lbs. I called her today and I was going to tell her that I was watching what I was eating and that I wanted to eat healthy and didn't want her to bake anything. But before I could tell her that, she told me that she already bought my favorite ice cream for me and that she has already bought the ingredients for my favorite cookies and for my favorite carmels. Then she said that she has already made plans for us and some of her friends to go out to a Mexican restaurant on Saturday night. I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I didn't say anything. But oh my goodness, what in the world am I going to do? I know that I will just have to eat smaller portions, but I am going to need all the help in the world to get me through. I know this is a long post, but I am honestly scared. This is the reason I don't visit her more often and I think that I just need to tell her how I feel. Any advice???
that is a really tough situation isabella.
could you still tell her when you are out there that you are trying to watch what you eat?
i think you need to be honest with her. tell her you dont want to hurt her feelings. maybe suggest showing her how to make cookies that are lower in fat.
if worst comes to worst...eat small portions and drink lots of water to fill yourself up.

I agree this is really tuff..I guess my only advice other than what Bell said, concerns the Mexican restaurant..I think possibly the healthiest choice might be chicken fajitas..and skip the tortillas..so you could try ordering that..it is yummy and has lots of veggies..Does anyone else have ideas about what would be healthiest to order at a Mexican restaurant? She sounds like the sweetest Grandma..I bet if you told her you are really worried about eating healthy and ask for her help...she would understand and not make the cookies and carmels..she is just trying to please you..maybe if its hard to say on the phone you could get a funny card and write it in that?? Good luck! Let us know how it goes..

Don't feel obligated to polish off the ice cream container just becuase your sweet grandma got it for you. You do not owe her your health or to jeapardize your goals to please her. Stay true to yourself!!!! I have been eating chicken fajitas when I go out. I agree, skip the tortillas if you can, and you might ask them to hold back on the oil they use to saute it. They often come drenched. Good luck. We are on diets, but life goes on, right? Stay true to yourself!!!
