View Full Version : Eating Enough?

I'm having problems eating enough. There isn't a delicate balance for me, it's either too much or too little, and I've been on the low side for 3 weeks now. For the first week I pretty much starved myself to kick my body into loss-mode again, and it worked, and I'm losing 2 pounds a week again. However, I'm eating ~1,600 to 1,800 calories a day.

My body needs at least 2,500 calories without exercise. And I work off 700 calories at the gym. To lose 2 pounds a week, that means I'm supposed to eat 2,500 or so calories a day, and I'm not there. And I can't seem to get there without snacking, and I hate snacking.

Any advice?

Luke, I would love to help you. The problem is.... I have never had a problem eating too little :)

Luke,

Try looking into denser but still nutrient rich foods. It will make it easier to eat more at your normal meals without feeling too full. I like fatty fish because it has -good- fats (meaning it's both dense and nutritious).

That is a great idea, sugarfiend. If I have calories and fat left over at the end of the day, I usually grab a handful of almonds or peanuts. Yummy and good for you.

I've been meaning to look into getting some nuts. Any recommendations?

Hey awol,
Congrats on the losses so far.

I was wondering where you found out that you should have 2500 calories. That seems abit high. Sometimes that is a suggestion from a site that you need that for your weight and height but that is often to MAINTAIN your weight.

The 1600-1800 sounded pretty good. Leaning toward the 1800 probably.

Well, just my two cents worth, hope you don't mind.

Since I'm very active, you're supposed to multiply your weight by 13-15 to get your maintain calories intake. Which is 3,000 to 3,500 calories. Subtract 500 for food and 700 for exercise, and I get between 2,300 and 2,500 calories needed to lose. but that does seem a bit high, so I try to get 2,000 a day, which is hard, since I have to find food to insert.

luke- you may want to snack on some trial mix or butter nuts ( peanut butter or almond butter, cashew butter,etc...)sandwiches for snacks. i like them because they are healthly but never eat them because i don't have a problem eating too few calories. good luck!:)
