So gang,

I have been popping in and out of here and of here and not making a true commitment. I was thinking of a trigger to truly get started.

Well, guess what...I figured it out. A year ago October 10 I quit smoking. I was sure I would never be able to do that. It was SO very hard. But it has been one year with no slips or falls. In that time I have gained 40 pounds. I was already about 20 pounds overweight.

So now, October 10 will be another anniversary. Tomorrow I will start with commitment to make a concrete changes to my lifestyle to bring me to a healthy weight.

Thanks for letting me spend time here as I prepare for the journey.

You are all quite an inspiration!

Liz

First, congratulations on quiting smoking (wish I could - just don't have that willpower yet :( ). Happy Anniversary!
Second, welcome to Diettalk. This is a great site to read other's posts, start your own, and get much encouragement from other DT folk.
Keep us informed as to how you are doing.
Good luck. You will do it!

Boy if we arent alike. Congrats on your quit. My year anniversary is just around the corner 12/3, it also was something I once had thought impossible after 30 yrs but i did it with no slips to date. Also gained the 40+ pounds, but have lost 16 to date. I am stuck in a rut for the moment but continue to go strong. I am new to this site but would very much like to be your buddy as we share alot. If you or anyone would like to be buddy tell me how to go about it. My new life is a healthy life and I am proud of everyone here. It is fantastic to see the support you all have for one another. :o

I quit smoking 3 months ago. I used the money I spent on cigarettes to get a gym membership. I haven't really lost much weight since I started exercising/watching my diet, but I haven't gained any either - which is usually expected after you give up smoking.

Good for you for quitting smoking! If you can overcome that challenge, you can certainly meet any goal you set your mind to!
