View Full Version : How much water?? Allie Shepard 05-08-01, 02:21 AM Hello everyone! I was just wondering how much water everybody drinks, and how much I should be drinking!! Thanks! sooz 05-08-01, 02:57 AM Allie, from what I have read we are supposed to drink 8 8oz glasses of water as a minimum, and another glass for each 25 pounds we are over weight, and more if we eat alot of salt or caffein, and more if it's hot or we are exercising alot.... :peace: ThinLynn 05-08-01, 09:14 AM me...me...let me answer! I know this one! A really easy way to calculate is to drink half an ounce for every pound you weigh. ________(your weight) divided by 2= ________ounces of water. Lindasue 05-08-01, 12:58 PM Wow. That is alot of water. I've drinking 8-10 glasses daily and was also wondering what the correct amount was. According to your formula I should be drinking 115 ounces....gulp!! Bathroom here I come. Linda Trynya 05-08-01, 01:48 PM I tried to do my water intake by ThinLynn's formula a while back. It just was not realistic for me at this point. I am now drinking between 64 and 80 oz. a day, and finding that it works for me pretty well for the time being. I open a bottle of water in the morning (20 or 24 oz., aquafina or dasani) and when I finish it I keep filling it up all day. I find it easier to drink the water out of the bottle than out of a glass. Just my opinion. :) J. ThinLynn 05-08-01, 02:30 PM I prefer drinking the water out of a bottle, too, T./J. My husband and son are also drinking water all day now, and we were about to go broke buying bottled water. I wash the empty bottles now, and refill them with water out of my Britta tank. Lynn dry camel 05-08-01, 02:31 PM Ooohhhh Water! My favorite drink. Glug, glug glug. :) Each day we take in about 3 1/2 cups of water from the foods we eat, vegetables and fruit, for example, are about 90 percent water. However, each day we also lose 10 to 12 cups of water though climate, body processes, including perspiration and output ect... This is why you are always being told to drink about 8 cups of water everyday, more if you are active. By drinking eight glasses a day not only keeps your body healthy, but you will also be more statisfied. Drinking water will keep your skin smooth and supple as you drop excess weight! How do ya make sure you get enough? Sip it slow, don't gulp a whole glass at one time. Try and drink before each meal. A good way to take the edge off hunger. Add ice. Your body has to warm up the water to body temperature so it burns some calories too! Don't count caffine. Because they make you go more, they actually contribute to you bodys water loss. You can tell I like my water! 8-} Plus I read alot. Hope it helps. :o Trynya 05-08-01, 03:54 PM Here's a question for all the water experts...I know you don't count things with sugar or caffeine in them towards your water count for the day...but what about 100% fruit juice? Does that count? J. karolync1 05-08-01, 04:43 PM  Yikes! That's 98 oz for me! Thinlynne, shouldn't you be on the way to Texas or Maine or someplace? ;) I keep a sports bottle both at home and at work. At home, I refill from our filtered water and there is a bottled water dispenser at work. Karolyn dry camel 05-08-01, 04:58 PM Hi Trynya, trust me I am NO expert. But I love to read about nutrition. From what I have learned. Yes, Juice counts. Juice is an entire other topic, that has many benefits. But you can include it as a replacement for water as well as milk. (skim of course) with the calorie count though, you wouldn't want to be drinking 8 of them. Here's an easy way to tell if you are getting enough water. Look at your urine. Except in the morning, when ya haven't had fluids all night, it should be pale yellow or even clear. If it's dark, that means wastes are too concentrated and you should be drinking more water. Like I said, not an expert, just things I have read. :) ThinLynn 05-08-01, 04:59 PM Sure, Karolyn; but I can't leave Pittsburgh till I fix you this salad! You want LOTS OF WATER WITH THAT? Can I Supersize your water, or you just want to hold your face under the faucet? Lynn [ 05-09-2001: Message edited by: ThinLynn ] Dj 05-08-01, 05:06 PM Actually, juice doesn't count.... at least by what I've read. Because juice contains some form of sugar. The rule of thumb I use is if it has caffeine, sugar, or has carbonation in it (because of the sodium), it can't go towards your water count. So what I usually do is drink my water first in the day and save anything else I might want as extra for the evening. The only exception to that is my coffee in the morning. But I don't count that as my water. Hope that helps...... Trynya 05-08-01, 05:17 PM So you mean that even sparkling water doesn't count towards your water for the day because it is carbonated? I would think that would be okay since it has no calories and no sugar or anything, just bubbles. This nutrition stuff is just wicked complicated. No wonder the majority of Americans are overweight and underexercised. There's too much information to fit in our brains and too many rules to follow! J. dry camel 05-08-01, 11:06 PM This is why I say I am not an expert. Just info I have read. There's always another view. I wouldn't drink juice all day either. Nothing beats H20! :) |
