Well, is it possible?? Every month, the same time of the month now, when TOM is here. I lose control. I do so well and then boom--something happens. I am feeling so down right now.
I will try to pick up by tomorrow, but. . .
I need a good swift kick in the butt,
I know I am not suppose to feel sorry for myself-it only makes it worse. I just want to stop. I have to get back on track!
Maybe tomorrow will be better.

otto i think there is a definite hormonal link to binging..and if they havent done a study about it, it could be done here, because i think 98% of us experience that...try not to be hard on yourself, and try not to let it get you down..just pick yourself up as soon as you can..and next time, try to binge on healthier stuff..i know that sounds silly..but maybe you could plan your binges..and not buy the really bad stuff..but maybe, like, popcorn or choc graham crackers, or ff yogurt or something..just get back on track as soon as you can..you will make it!! :rose:

Are there particular foods that trigger you to binge - where you have one bite and it's downhill from there?

I used to find if I put a little peanut butter on my bread, I would end up eating it off the knife until half the jar was gone! Well, peanut butter and I have said goodbye - along with other "trigger" foods that will not find their way into my kitchen again! I would rather be slim...

So, my advice is - throw away your binge foods, and visualize the binger inside of you going into the trash bin along with them.

There IS a NORMAL EATER inside all of us - we just have to bring them back into our lives.

Good luck,

Heidi

Thanks Sooz and GreenHeidi,
I feel much better today. I did better today eating wise. I don't think it is necessarily a trigger food, sometimes maybe, but sometimes I believe it is just the hormones. I just hate when it happens. Its like I am a different person--one who just don't care, then all of a sudden - I am upset that I did it. I just wish I would not do that at all. Sooz, next time it does happen, I am going to do as you suggested, only a healthier binge--maybe that will help when it happens--I definitely wont be disappointed if it never happens again.
Thanks again,

Otto....don't get down on yourself too much. I also think it is hormone related during the TOM...if you concentrate on healthy binge food though , it will take away the guilty feelings.

Menopause helps!! I know this is terribly hard to deal with. Just increase water, fruits and veggies and exercise during this time to help counter-balance anything else you might be eating. Thankfully, it goes away! Hang in there!

Otto.... I believe it's possible to be an ex-binger! The thing that stopped my bingeing was to stop denying myself certain foods. I haven't binged in a long time. If I'm hungry for a certain something, I have a single serving size and that seems to do it for me. I make sure that I sit down to eat it and eat it slowly savoring each bite. I know lots of people say they couldn't stop at one serving, but I learned to not eat out of the bag of snacks, or the carton of ice cream...... if it's ice cream I want my husband has been great about dishing it for me so I'm not tempted to have more than one small scoop. It makes me feel like I'm having treats and after awhile of doing that I realized that I don't have that urge to binge eat anymore.

I know it's not the answer for everyone, but it's what helped me. Good luck to you and never give up on yourself.... you can do it!

Otto, I was wondering if maybe more of an impulse or craving that kicks in and we start eating? But if it's just that time of the month. Maybe not? If you are avoiding some foods, it's bound to pop up lator and dig in. No guilt though. It's a learning process how to change our behavior when and why why eat.

I agree wtih Dj. Yes we can stop the binge cycle. Always be temptations we are drawn too. But it is possible to have one slice, or piece or bite and not eat the whole bag. Say yes once in awhile and you won't feel deprived. Food only has the power we give it. We can get control. *
