Hello all. well, I'm at my wits end. I need to lose weight. I'm 500+ pounds, i can barely walk, can't sleep, my legs and feet are swelled like balloons. Help!!!!! What can I do to try and lose weight? What's a good program? Anyone have any ideas? I'm terrified that my weight will kill me, and that my dad, my hero, will have to bury me. It'll kill him. please help me.

Hi Gary and welcome to DT! This is a great place for support and motivation. If you read through some of the journals you can get a good idea of what people are eating and what types of exercises they are doing. There are plenty of programs to chose from but most of us are just trying to eat healthy, drink our water everyday and get in some type of exercise. Whatever plan you chose I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks Gina. I have not even tried for so mlong, and I have NO willpower. I'm afraid and I feel helpless. I keep hearing about WW, maybe I'll try that.

Gary you are doing the best first step - coming here. Get on the chats too as there are some wonderful people here. I think Weight Watchers is a wonderful program and proven to work. I think that would be a great start. Also, I know I sound like a broken record but make sure to see a doctor. Knowing there is someone medically in the picture makes a difference or atleast does for me. TAKE IT A DAY AT A TIME!!! No more no less. One day that is it. Wake up and know what you are going to eat. Know what exercise you are going to do and maybe it is just walking around your table twice. Do not belittle your attempts and feel free to email me anytime dpurick@westelcom.com Start a journal. When you want to eat ask yourself why? Is it out of boredom or like in my case it gives me a secure feeling (which is stupid because it is an illusion!) You can do it and we will be your cheering squad!!! :)

Hi Gary. I responded to you in the "SOS" forum, but wanted to add something here, too. Reva is exactly right when she said take it a day at a time. That's been essential to me and keeping to a program. If I look too far ahead, I either feel like I have lots to lose and I get discouraged and frustrated or I look ahead and say "oh well, what's this one day going to hurt." Problem with that kind of thinking is one day turns into two and then into three and pretty soon I don't have a program anymore. If I get up in the morning and know that I only have to make healthy choices for this day..... for this day only I can do anything I need to. It's not that hard. Don't beat yourself up for yesterday either..... guilt is a real program killer! And planning of some kind is essential.
Weight Watchers is a really healthy program, too. Maybe it would help to have some kind of structure and someone to answer to every week to get you started! Just know there are lots of people here that understand when you feel like you have no will power and you feel weak about food.....! I sure do! Write often and try out the chat rooms. It is a nice way to get to know people better. And it's usually a fun time, too. And fun and smiling helps you to realize that getting healthy is a great gift to give yourself!
Take care and good luck to you!

Gary...Welcome to DT..you have come to the right place. You will find many posts with support, motivation and encouragement. Taking things one day at a time is important. Make small goals..5 pounds..then choose another goal. Make sure you drink plenty of water and take things slowly. The people here are very good listeners and supporters. Please never feel alone. We are all here. Good luck on your program.
