There used to be a time when I found shopping for clothes depressing. Its unbelievable to me that that time was only four months ago!
Four months ago I made the life-changing decision to get back in shape and lose weight. Now I am 31 pounds lighter, enjoying my regular workouts and new diet regime. Continuing to lose weight on a weekly basis and my overall sense of well-being is the best motivation but now I've found another to add -- shopping for new clothes!
Today I actually was able to try clothes on in regular, non-plus size stores! And the clothes fit! I'm still on the large end of the sizes but I can walk in, go to a rack, find my size, try it on and they fit and I don't have to go to a specialty store. I did that today and I cruised the racks to look at other great clothes. Not all of them were right yet for my figure but it was motivation to see these great clothes and know in my heart that I will be able to fit into these types of styles in the not so distant future.
I truly, truly believe it. All world-class medal-winning athletes talk about the power or visualization. Picturing themselves making the jump or the play or as Gretzky often said "seeing where the puck is going to go" vs where it is, is a key to their success. I use visualization alot. I visualize myself smaller and thinner and lighter. I visualize what weight will be on the scale on my weigh-in day. And cruising the stores helps me visualize wearing a certain type of outfit.
I didn't end up buying an outfit in a regular store. I actually found one I liked in my usual plus-size store but this time I was buying the smallest size in the store. But that's not the point -- there's satisfaction enough in knowing I could buy something in a regular store if I wanted it.
