I have seen the ad of TV. At the moment you can have one week free. What they are are 1/2 hour classes on your own time. They will help you learn to do what is rightfor your needs? I've not been yet. My 1st appointment is Feb 5th. in the afternoon. I don't know if I will be able to keep it up though if my hours get cut but I wanted to see what it was all about. My sister-in-laws both go to it in their own cities so I thought why not. My husband told me to give it a try even if I can only afford it once or twice a week at least it gets me out and I'm trying something new. I'll be seeing my dietitian today and I will let her know about it. She wanted me to get into TOPS. So far I've not been able to get into it yet. The woman has still not called me back. I emailed her today I hope I get an answer soon. I want to get going and I need the help now. I'm at the stage where I really need the day to day support.

I have not been but it looks like it could be fun...I had seen it on the news in my area and they were saying it's only a 1/2 hour workout BUT you start off on one exercise and then a bell will sound or someone will say change then you move to the left to the next exercise. I would like to go for a trial but I know it's rather expensive and right now I cannot afford it. Please let us know how it went.

Ironically, a friend of mine who is a personal trainer just tried Curves to see what it was like and if she'd enjoy working for them. Her opinion was that it is perfect for anyone new to exercise or getting back in to exercise after some time away, and/or for those very overweight.

Her only negative comment was that the staff are not required to have certification or background in exercise. Basically, there's a 5 day "orientation" that teaches you the "Curves method" and then you're put to work. She also said they don't even require their staff members to be CPR trained, so this lack of exercise certification and CPR training alarmed her as a personal trainer, but still overall, she thought it was a great way to get beginners moving in the right direction, but for seasoned exercisers, she said there would be no challenge.

I personally have not checked them out, so this was just a "hear say" opinion. :)

I'm going to try this "free week offer" and see how it goes. I'll keep you guys posted. I just have been putting off because I don't like the idea of gaining weight (because your gaining muscle) that would be very depressing to me :( . But I know it will make up for it in inches which is good.

Since your body burns more calories to maintain muscle, it evens out. I don't know of anyone who gained much weight from exercising except lifting the fork and spoon too much.

The main problem with Curves (at least the only one near where I live) is that the hours of operation are very limited. If you can't evercise between 8 a.m and 6 p.m., you're out of luck. It seems like a good program if you've never done much cross-training work, but the options and flexibility are much more limited than with other health clubs. I like the fact that's it's all women, though. I feel more comfortable when I'm not trying to bat my eyelashes and lift a dumbbell at the same time.

My mom tried it for a little while, and it just became too expensive and it wasnt really what she was looking for. I dont think she saw results soon enough for her tastes. Keep in mind though, that my mother is one of the most impatient people in the world and she only went two or three times a week and didnt really change her eating habits. That wouldnt help really.
