Thanks you guys! I try to focus on how far I've come, rather than how far I've got to go. It's very hard to undo the flab accumlated from 10 years of predominantly sedentary behavior EWWWWWW X-(

A word of wisdom from the voice of experience to the younger members: If you're sitting on your butt and not moving around, gaining weight, "wishing" it all away, <IMG SRC="smilies/stop.gif" border="0"> right now! This is much easier to do when you're young! If you wait until your mid 40's to start trying to get fit again, it's much harder!! Your joints are creaky and achy (especially for those that have been really obese a long time) i know my knees cause me grief from old sports injuries which have gotten arthritic. You're also starting to deal with peri-menopause which causes weight gains, and no end of unpleasantries, making the whole process much harder than it would have been 10 years ago! :rose:

Still an inspiration i see Bev!!!!!!!
i like the advice you gave too bev. i have a couple of friends saying those exact things. they wish they had tried to lose weight earlier in life because they are finding it harder now.
you will be at goal in no time!
hugs bell :)

Bell I don't think losing the weight is so much harder as you're older, but I sure think that recovering from "Muscular Alzeheimers" is!! Getting rid of the flab, and toning up is much harder the longer you leave it! 8-|

Pish tush!! one pound under the circumstances is the same as a 5 pound loss!! Some occasions are just too special and once in a life time to be ignored..what a special mile stone for your family!!! you will be back adding marbles to your jar in no time!!! * :) *

Hey ya bev.. Glad to see you were still losing your marbles.. I've lost mine a long time ago..ROFL...Actually one pound is nothing to sneeze about.. You'll have that gone in no time.. Did you try weighing yourself naked??? I bet magically it disappears..LOL...Do like gepetto I think it is does...Weigh your clothes first then get on the scales in those clothes and watch the weight difference. :D :D :D

Big Bones
05-17-01, 10:53 AM
I always weigh naked, and first thing when I get out of bed. I can weigh after I get out of the shower and be up 2 pounds... by the end of the day, I'd likely be up about 5 pounds. I've always been like that, so I stay away from the scale except first thing.

This week I'm doing great in the exercise department, not so great in the eating department, but my weight is staying pretty steady. Hopefully tomorrow I will make better choices!

Congratulations on all the weight loss, sighs. hopefully I'll have something good to say in a week.
Question: Why does the weight go up at the end of the day, seems like it should be the other way around considering the excercise and supposedly water loss throughout the day.. or does that take into account the meals eaten? Is there a best time to weigh?
:)thanks

Don't sweat the odd bad eating day when you are working out, Bev. Your body knows you are not going to starve it, and you are on the way down. I know you will be posting a loss before the end of the week.

Big Bones

Well I'm happy to report that after 3 completely OP days with eating, and a week of good, hard workouts, I finally have a NEW weight loss to report. It's only a half a pound, but it's a NEW half pound, as opposed to the 2 pounds I've just been batting back and forth for the past month.

The best part is that my BMI is now 25.7!
A BMI of 25-29.9 is considered overweight
A BMI of 30+ is considered obese.

When I started, I was just over the 30 mark. That in itself shocked me senseless! 8-} Never in my life had I considered myself OBESE!! Just seeing those words gave me the kick in the ***** I needed! Now just a teeny ways to go and I'll be considered "normal"!! (regarding weigh only!! :laugh :)

Obviously what these "charts" say are not the ultimate goal for anyone, it's in how you feel about yourself, but it's been a good guideline for me in my progress.

I also had a really cool thing happen to me yesterday. 2 years ago, I got myself down to pretty much this weight, although not nearly as toned or fit. I bought a 3 piece skirt set that was REALLY nice. We went on a field trip to the ballet at school, and I wore it. I got tons of compliments, and promptly outgrew it. I wore it yesterday, thinking that it must fit again. I threw it on, pleased it fit, noticing that it fit very easily. By the days end, I had 2 safety pins in that sucker to hold it up!! I must have lost like 5 more inches from my waist compared to the last time I was this weight, so I really want to get a tape measure and check it out. I haven't taken my measurements for 2 years! 8-}

Thanks Joni... I sure don't do it for my "ego" as I HATE looking at the before pictures. I do it to keep myself motivated and to show others that it can be done, and quite painlessly too if you're determined to do so. :rose:

Definitely do those measurements, Bev. Maybe the BMI thing is not accurate for you because you look slim in your pictures. Why don't you go get your %bodyfat done...I be you are way withing the "normal" range.

Great work, Bev. I read what you posted under my thread and I agree...as long as the trend is "down" it doesn't matter how fast it comes off. You are doing so well. I forgot to mention how much younger you look in your recent pictures, too. I feel younger myself.

I lost another 1/2 marble as of this morning. I also, finally got around to measuring, and I've lost 14 inches from bust, waist, stomach, hips, thighs, and arms in total. ;)

Only 22 pounds to go? WOW! Almost there!! Bev, I just started this marble thingee of yours. I have always loved the visual, but never got around to doing it. This will help keep me focused. I am now 207, not far from where you started. You've been quite the inspiration for me, and I REALLY REALLY appreciate it! *

Thanks Joni for saying that! The only reason I share all the personal info, stats, and "horrifying" pictures, is to prove to everyone, that anybody can do this if they want to. If you're willing to put in the time and effort. Even if you're a busy, wife, mother, working woman. No matter what! If my opening up in that way helps one person feel a twig of inspiration, then it's worth all the moments of "embarrasment"!

Well, then consider it worth it because the pix, your words and the marbles have sure inspired me! I did not have any marbles, but my daughter gave me these blue glass stones that they use in flower arrangments (or something). For 2 years they have been sitting in my closet. Now they are my "marbles". They are in the kitchen with 5 of them on the "lost" side! yipeee!! Only 45 to go. "ONLY"...notice that good attitude there?? Tee hee!! Keep it up, girlfriend, the better you do, the more cranked up I am!

One more pound down and out this morning! My BMI is at 25.2. At 25.0 you are no longer "overweight" (labels), so that's always been one of my mini-goals. I started out just over the "obese" range when I started in January.

Thanks Joni! You're a sweety!

Congrats on another pound gone, Bev. Bet you will be at your mini-goal 25.0 BMI in no time. I am following the blood type diet for "A" type blood and doing quite well too. I am hoping I will be at my goal by the end of the summer. To my shock and amazement, I can eat a basically vegetarian diet and still feel pretty good.

Lordy, Lordy did I have to dig deep to find this thread!!!

Hmmmm guess I haven't been very successful in losing my marbles this summer! In spite of that, I have been working hard, and I'm punishing myself by posting new pictures (http://weigh-better.com/08_16_2001.html).

Bev...I just checked out your new pictures, and you look great. Those "cuts" in your upper body are just great. It looks like you would be a natural for bodybuilding. Don't get hung up on the BMI numbers because the formula obviously doesn't work for you. Good going, girl. Thanks for starting the daily exercise thread ...I might just start posting there as motivation.

By the way...have you heard of a documentary called "Taking It Off"? It is airing on the Life Network and it involves 8 people from Edmonton who are losing weight. One of the men was over 400 pounds to start and he has lost 50+ pounds in 13 weeks. It shows on Monday nights, and I am going to get my weekly fix in about half an hour. They are really brave people to be hanging it all out for the television crew every week.

Thanks Artsy! I'm feeling incredibly motivated about working out!! I've always said, with my addictive personality, why couldn't I get addicted to exercise? Well I think I can honestly say that I finally have! I'm just loving it and the healthy changes that I'm starting to see! :o
