Hi There,

Just signed up on the forum to try and obtain some first-hand experience. I'm in Toronto Canada and last year I did the Dr. Bernstein diet for a period of about 2 months and lost about 30lbs. I felt good on the diet. Approx. 1 year later and I'd say I've put back 1/2 the weight.

A friend has passed me the infamous, Sacred Heart Memorial Diet or also known as the cabbage soup diet. Here's a link to the diet rules http://www.idiet4u.com/diets/sacredheart.html and here's a link to a site putting down the diet http://www.health24.co.za/dietnfood/Weight_Centre/15-51,18893.asp.

I was wondering if anybody has actually tried this diet and what they think of it? I'd like quickly to drop the 15lbs i put back and this diet promises to do so. It's only 7 days and can be gone on whenever you feel you need to. My Berntstein diet was closely monitored by RN's (3 times per week) and promoted weight loss of 3-5lbs per week which I considered rapid. This Sacred Heart diet advocates 10-17lbs loss in a week and does not advise of any supplements or anything to compensate for the loss nutrients.

Any personal stories, good or bad, of experience with this diet are truly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch and good luck to everyone on their personal weight loss goals.

Kat

I am somewhat acquainted with the Cabbage Soup Diet. A couple of years ago I mixed up a batch of the soup and ate it off and on for a few days. The recipe makes a humungous amount of soup, however I found that I liked the soup and enjoyed eating it.

Since then I have made a half-batch of the soup several times and just incorporated it into my daily eating plan. It is just a cabbage/veggie soup with very few calories.

I have never followed the whole Cabbage Soup Diet which incorporates other foods into the eating plan on a scheduled basis.

If I could eat this soup I would do it in a heart beat!!!!! I however can not stand 1/2 the foods in it........sigh

However my in laws followed it and lost a lot of weight -

mom - 37 lbs

dad - 52 lbs

They were on it for 30 days the first time

second time

mom - 14 lbs ( did not have as much to lose as she did the first time )

dad - 23 lbs ( as did not have as much to lose as first time )

They were on it the second time for 21 days

I know a lot of people frown on this diet plan, but I personally would try it for a short period of time if I liked the foods in it......sigh

Hope this helps :)

PS: If you decided to try it mom & dad said to stand down wind from crowds ( gasey vegs ) :o

only use 1/2 of a head of cabbage. That is what is causing the gas

I could not open the second site . The sacred heat diet does not have the cabbage , Jade is this the one your parents had so much success with ?

Hi Katfob,

I tried the Sacret Heart diet just last week. I lost 10 lbs. in 7 days, but let me tell you.... I really came to hate that soup. It's actually good....but after eating it for the 8th time, you start getting sick of it.

It's good in that you get lots of veggies.... but you have to "pee" constantly. Some days are harder than others. The ones that have fruit in them aren't too bad.... the all veggie days are tough.

SO... you really can lose a lot fast. I don't know how well I can keep it off as I just finished it yesterday. It does get rid of your cravings for carbs and fats though (if that's a problem).

See what you think.

I am on the fouth day, but i feel like i ate too many bananas. i lost count, about 3 bunches, but i worked out really good today. i feel like i binged on bananas and i only had a small bowl of the soup. I haven't lost any wieght yet, maybe i am not eating enough soup and too much other food.

:D I am new here, but this is the jump start that maybe I am looking for. I am feeling miserable about my weight, and I love cabbage soup....so, hopefully this will be good. Question: what about coffee? (gotta have it in the am!)

Well, I have never tried this particular diet plan, but i have tried 10-day cleansing diets. Lost nine pounds, gained it back within the next week of normal eating. Was not worht it!

So, I imagine it would be hard to keep this off... but, not sure...

Good luck,
Kristen :)

on day five
oddly enough, i am actually looking forward to beef and tomotoes today....
i don't feel like i lost weight
but the one positive thing so far is that I am actually disciplining myself to stick to a pretty rigid and limited eating routine.

i feel like a candidate on 'Survivor' who has nothing to eat, and my 'beef is a reward' for winning a competition
