I started exercising at a gym on March 4. Two days later, I noticed a huge change in my energy level. Since then, I have been feeling better than ever. But today, I seemed as tired and slow as I used to be. I was just so tired. This afternoon I went to the gym and worked out, and that did make me feel a little better.
Does anyone know what I am talking about? Is this something that normally happens, or could I just be having just simply a bad day? The only thing I could think of was that maybe I wasn't rested today because I dreamed and had nightmares all night long last night. I don't want--I just know I don't want to go back to the way I was! I really like being energetic and actually WANTING to do things. Any thoughts?

This could almost be me posting right now.. .I'm in my eighth week of exercising, and today I found I'm just sort of in a funk. But I know, this too will pass (say it to yourself three times fast!!) You've done The Hardest Part--you got started. Now comes the next Hardest Part--hanging in there. Some days will be easy, some will be not so easy. But Hang In There!!
Good Luck!!
hey Trinity.
the tiredness could be lots of things. just a bad day, lack of sleep, not enough cals, too many carbs.
for me when i get really tired i have normally not had enough cals to take into consideration all my exercise. i noticed when i cut back the carbs i was less tired also.
just see if the feeling passes....what sort of workout do you do at the gym? maybe mix things up a bit. walk somedays go to the gym others. have you tried pilates/yoga. on days where i have less energy i go and do a lower intensity class.

What you are feeling could be related to so many different things it's hard to pinpoint.
For me, anytime I felt what you described it usually related to one or two things. Either I was overtraining and not allowing myself to rest (working out 7 days/week for months at a time), or not eating appropriately to fuel my workouts.
There is a HUGE difference in your energy level when you fuel your body with good foods as opposed to poorer choices. All foods really are not created equal when it comes to eating and exercise.
So I'd say take a look at your diet for the last week and see how you've been eating. Are you eating the necessary vegetables, getting in plenty of high fiber foods, how is your protein intake, how is your overall fat intake? Are you getting enough calories? You really do have to eat to lose weight healthfully, and even moreso if exercise is a daily part of your life.
Also boredom with a routine can cause this. I change my entire routine every 6 weeks to keep it interesting and keep my body from adapting to the exercise, so knowing a change is coming helps me enjoy the current routine and look forward to the next.
But if you look at all thse factors and can say its none of them, then maybe you should just get a check up. Could be something medical like low iron, or some other vitamin/mineral deficiency, etc.
But let us know how this goes and whether it passes. :)

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement and advice. I am feeling better today. Not as tired as yesterday. Today, I got up and could tell that my body was "not happy" with what I've been putting in it the past few days, but it did not even occur to me until I read your posts that that "blah" feeling from eating the wrong foods and my low energy level were connected. Now that I've thought about it, I really think this slump could be due to my eating habits. I've just been trying to not eat as much, but I'm seeing that it is really the type of food that you eat that makes the difference. I will try to make a change in that now. And that means for me, less carbs.
Thank you guys again for the helpful advice.
