View Full Version : Susan Powter
Vanessa444 03-24-03, 05:27 PM I've just read Susan Powter's Stop the Insanity. I can already tell this is the greatest thing I've ever tried. I've seen more results in a week (in the first day!) than I have in the last 8 weeks. Has ANYONE else read or tried her stuff? I can't find anything about this I DON'T like! Let me know!!!!

Eating, Moving, Breathing, and LOSING!!!!!!!!!!
:lift: :dc
I saw her infomercial years ago and bought a set of tapes for my parents. They never said another word about the tapes and I never asked. I remember thinking that she made a lot of sense and was very motivating. I hadn't heard or thought about her in years tho! Is she still out there?!
i basically used her techniques to lose 130 pounds..her exercise video that came with stop the insanity is a step tape called Moving that is the most challenging exercise i do..she is right on about everything..i still do what she recommends..it isnt her fault i fell off the wagon for a while and started gaining..i am back on track again and losing well...she is FABULOUS and you will have GREAT results if you do what she says!!!! *
just to add a bit more..when i was 320 i used to lie in bed and watch her infomercial over and over again..it was playing on tv all the time..just listening to the infomercial finally gave me hope that i could really do it..i could hardly move and was getting worse and worse....it changed my life!!
She does make a lot of sense. There has another book out which I have "Food" by Susan Powter. I found her book "Stop the Insanity" quite good and in the book "food" there are lots or recipes. She is basically vegetarian I think. The more I read and hear about the beef and other meats we eat I am wondering if they are really so good for us. Unless they are organic or grain fed.
You are doing all the right things Vanessa:rose:

Weily48 03-24-03, 08:33 PM Thnik I will check out the library for the book. Thanks
Weily
louise, i think she eats lean meat..just a portioned amount..i will have to look for that book Food..it sounds good, thanx for suggesting it...i think ebay might be a good place to find her stuff..oh i just noticed that link you put up louise, excellent!! thanx!!!
i think one thing i have changed since totally doing her is to add a BIT of good fat to my diet..i think we have learned that there is some benefit to it and it is not all bad....i may be remembering things wrong...it has been a few years since i read her stuff..but i still do her video..at least im working up to being fit enough to do it again lol..
Sooz: I am trying something that Richard suggested.. Udo's oil. It will be a week on Wednesday that I have been taking it..it is the good oil. I am pleasantly surprised with the results...no cravings...not as hungry...so obviously IMO it is saying that I was not getting enough EFA (Essential Fatty Acids) I do eat quite low fat but now have got to cut out a lot of the animal meat, which contain many of the bad oils, as does butter and margarine. I am not going to say too much right now but will know more in a month or so lol.
I just took a peek at her book "Food" and that one she is into tofu lentils rice etc..most if not all the recipes are meatless, I don't remember if there were recipes inn the Stop the Sanity one or not.
thats great louise, i will be interested to find out what your experience is with it..i have been adding olive oil and salmon to my diet, two things i never really ate before...and i think i will allow myself some avocado more often....i find that when i add more fat to a meal that i stay full longer..i just read an article about "good" fats and it said that the white albacore tuna packed in water is much better than the light tuna packed in water so i will be getting that next time i buy tuna instead of the light tuna...as i remember Susan Powter, she was not so much anti meat as anti fat and of course there is a lot of fat in meat....but like i said, i could have forgotten that part...i remember her infomercial she would show like a dozen potatoes and said you could eat this much instead of a fatty choice..in other words eat much more VOLUME of food...who would want 12 potatoes lol..just a good visual!!
jessica 03-25-03, 01:07 AM she had a radio show in Seattle years ago, it was really good, so of course it got cancelled (she's very "girl power!!"--which isn't very "talk radio!!")-- I think, though I really like her mesage, I would find her hard to follow (and we are semi-vegitarians who eat lentils!!)--I'm all about limiting the rules and just going with it. Though, I gotta share this story about meat--my sister moved here from England about 2 years ago. Her 8 year old son began developing breasts. The doctor told her it was a normal response to all the hormones in our meat. All I can say is, holy cow!!!!????
Unfortunately Jessica this is true...about the meat that is why I eat very little red meat, although I used to love my steaks etc. have really weaned off the red meats. Then sometimes it is difficult to know what is good and what is not, with all the different opinions out there.
Vanessa444 03-25-03, 01:06 PM Hi!
Susan does eat a lot of Vegan, but she says herself that she doesn't't have a problem with meat. Red meat is full of fat. So is pork.
She says you can eat whenever you are hungry!!! Stick to things that are low fat percentages. DON'T judge a product by the grams listed on the back of the carton.
Fat Formula
fat grams x 9= X
X divided by total number of calories.
This gives you the actual percentage of calories that come from fat.
example:
5 grams fat
100 calories
5x9=45
45/100=0.45 or 45% fat.
Susan says stay 30% or less and burn your own fat, not the package stuff.
You'd be amazed at the "diet" foods that are in the 60% or greater area.
Also, move. Move in anyway you can. Modify so that you can continue to move for 30 minutes. Even if its just walking to the other side of the room. Lift your arms, lift cans, lift milk jugs, lift milk jugs full of water (ha ha), lift anything, but move! While you're at it, Breath!!!
It takes oxygen to burn fat.
Don't skip meals!!!
You can't drive to California at 95 miles per hour without gas! As well, you can't function without fuel. Eat, eat, eat. In her book, Stop The Insanity, is a chart of calories you NEED to function everyday. Mine is 2100. That's just to live. No wonder when I cut to 1200 I feel like a slug slinking through the desert.
When I upped my calories, removed the fat ( I stay at 20% or less), began to walk and BREATH, I saw changes immediately. I don't want to snack. I don't want the chocolate in the drawer, I don't constantly think about food, my pants fit better, I feel better, you will too.
Walk, Run, or crawl to the library, bookstore, whatever, and get her book. She's so much more motivational than I. I can't wait to read her newer stuff and I'v not even begun to discover her workout stuff.
Love to you all!!!
Vanessa
Texasmama 04-24-03, 11:43 AM HI! I just got done reading "Stop the Insantiy". It was the most inspirational weight loss story I have ever read and the best weight loss plan I have ever heard! I have started, stopping the insanity a few days ago and I feel wonderful. I am not hungry anymore, I am not overeating, I am exercising everyday.
