Hi, I just read a great thread here (35 tips)
http://diettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29970
and one tip said that dehydration slows metabolism.
My question is does drinking diet 7up qualify as drinking water? I drink a lot of it, mixed with a slash of grapefuit & cranberry juice and ice cubes. I love the stuff. I "think" its hydrating me because, well, you know why. And I much prefer it over water.
I've been wondering this for quite some time. I'd like to feel that I have a good habit established here with the 7up. I've tried sparkling water, but its not the same.
thanx!
one way to tell if you are hydrated is to judge the color of your urine..if it is clear you are entirely hydrated!! :D :water:

ditto to sooz... i dont really think any kind of soda is good for you though.. diet or not.. mostly because even though there is not sugar in diet soda there are artifical sweetners in 7up.. i looked that up at 7up.com....water is all i drink now plain and simple only because i know that way im not consuming any of the extras that are in other beverages like sodas. you may want to look at 7up.com and see what kind of ingredients are in it then searh the web on those ingredients in regards to weight loss

I think it's a personal preference, as to how you feel about artificial sweeteners. When pregnant with my daughter, I decided to cut out all artificial sweeteners, I just didn't want her pure little body to have "synthetics" in it--now I think, well, why should I feed myself crap I don't want her to have?? Again, though, it's personal preference. Yes, you're getting hydration, but I believe water is a better quality hydrator--I might try to up your water intake a wee bit and make your 7-up "mocktail" more of a "treat"--But some hydration is better than none!!
those are good points...carbonation in soda is also a risk factor for osteoporosis..so all things in moderation!!
Thanx for the replies! Yup, I guess the stuff is hydrating me (& nice to see you again Sooz!)
Thanx for that link to 7up.com LeesMarie. I'm always so confused over the caffeine issue (which is a diuretic (sp?), thus my concern over hydrating) They say "what makes 7up so refreshing? Its not the caffeine or artifical flavors..." Lol, I guess that implies it doesn't have caffeine ..... I looked at the label and it says "natural flavors", but nothing about caffeine, but then again, I'm not sure caffeine is an "ingredient" in and of itself. Haha, I'm confused. I used to think pop only had caffeine if it was brown, but got argued down over that one :)
Anyway, yes, the aspartame thing. I know. There is actually an organization that is blaming aspartame for the Gulf War Syndrome (when heated, such as in the desert, the stuff breaks down into nasty chemicals and apparently the troops we drinking gallons of it)
Anyway, at least I know I'm hydrated. (And ya, I forgot about the phosphorus/bone thing thank you). I'll try to cut down .
Thanx again!!!
edit: actually, I just discovered that the so-called aspartame disease is an urban legend (though ofcourse water would still be better...):
