View Full Version : south beach diet nikic 06-17-03, 11:50 AM Is anyone following this?? JoThrive 06-17-03, 02:19 PM I am, sorta. That is I am reading all I can about it and absorbing information that will no doubt be useful as I work on controling carbs in my WOE. I actually think that the SBD is a worthwhile WOE for many people. JoAnnAtkinson 06-26-03, 09:24 AM Must be very popular now!!!!!:D I went to my local library and they told me they now have 6 copies and they were all checked out!:( I am #26 on the waiting list!8-| I am anxious to read it and see if I can't comprehend something to help me curve my appetite toward carbs! Are there NOT anybody on Diet Talk doing the South Beach Diet? I can't seem to find anyone posting about it? Jo Ann in TEXAS8-| JoThrive 06-26-03, 09:51 AM I am absolutely no expert on the South Beach Diet, but I have read about it. The current Womens World magazine has an article on it and there are tons of information regarding SBD in the Prevention Web Site plus elsewhere on the Internet. There is a thread in the Low Carb Forum here at Diettalk regarding the SBD. Essentially one limits carbs during an induction period in order to break the dependency on the carbs. No bread, no pasta, no sugars, no fruits, etc. Then they can be reintroduced slowly. Also limited are the "bad" fats, use of "good" fats such as olive oil is encouraged. What it boils down to is a basic healthy WOE, limiting stuff we know we should limit, and encouraging our eating of foods we know we should be eating - veggies, etc. I am not following the SBD myself, but I have incorporated some of the suggestions made regarding SBD into my WOE. IMHO there is always something new to learn. In fact I keep learning about myself and how I react to certain foods. I am sure that the South Beach Diet would be helpful to many people. And evidently lots of other people feel the same way. I will probably read the book when it becomes readily available. sharonf 06-26-03, 04:42 PM Hi Jo and everyone. Sandielynne gave me the website www.prevention.com for all the info. I just printed out all the phases and have reserved it at my local library. I am going to read the info thru this evening and decide if it is for me. It actually looks like a reasonable way of eating and may be just the no diet approach I am lookig for. Yeah, yeah I know the word diet is in the title but you don't weigh and measure and after the initial phase there are few foods that are forbidden. I just asked John if there was a SB forum and I am sure that if there are enough of us we could get one started. Let me know what you think. summering 06-26-03, 08:28 PM Hi Everyone , I'm going away this weekend but when I return I'm gonna be starting the South Beach Diet .:) sharonf 06-27-03, 07:25 AM John started a South Beach Diet Forum if anyone is interested.
