From my own experience, I have found it beneficial to eat as many raw fruits and vegetables, beans etc as I can an avoid as much processed sugars, breads, pies, soups etc that are common at supermarkets. When I was 18, overweight and left home, I ate stuff like raw carrots, hardly had any beer coz the bottle shop was too far away and no car to travel in. That and pushbike riding to and from work got my weight down very fast. I dont think I would go totally without processed foods and naughty snacks coz it would drive me nuts. Too strict for me :)
