Has anyone heard of this sugar substitute that is supposed to be perfectly natural? [Stevia]
I went to a health food store with my sister the other day and I saw it there. I asked the lady if she had samples and she gave us a few packets. I put some in my palm and taste it. It left the worse taste in my mouth.
When I got home I made coffee and used it, again it just had this terrible aftertaste worse than any of the other brands.. MUCH WORSE.
I looked on the box and saw the price, $18.95 for 50 packets per box..
That stuff is gross LOL

Splenda is 100% better..The stevia has a bitter aftertaste....

The stevia you buy in the store is ground up stevia plant and I don't like the taste either. People used to just use the leaves to sweeten a glass of iced tea or the like and I think that sounds a lot more pleasant. :)

Splenda is all I need!!!

I had to check this thread to see what Stevia is. I recognized the name just couldn't remember. I've never seen it where I live. I use splenda the odd time I use a artificial sweetener. I have bad side effects from most of them, including splenda, including the nasty taste of it.

I've heard of stevia before, but I've never tried it. Thanks for sharing your experience with it. (It sounds too expensive anyway.) I second the Splenda recommendation.

Hi gang! Yeah I thought that was a might expensive too!
I get very sick trying to use any of the artificial sweeteners. That aftertaste, even after brushing the teeth sets in like cement.. I feel so nauseated by it. I have tried them all. Lots of people love the splenda, I am glad there is something out there that can help ones dieting!
I have came to the conclusion (for myself only here lol), that if I have to "acquire" a taste for a substitute, I might as well work at "acquiring" a taste for things in its natural state, either way its a hard job lol So, I have learned to like plain lemon water or Ice Tea with no sugar..
And God help me if they ever come out with a substitute that has no terrible aftertaste.. I will be on a lifelong pastry diet hahaha

Bird Songs, I think you have a good point about learning to like things without the sweet taste. Overall, that's likely the best approach.

Another thing about nonsugar sweeteners is that while you get the taste of sugar, your body (IMO) gets sort of confused because it doesn't get the effect of sugar that it craves. So you keep on eating and eating because you feel so unsatisfied. Not a scientific theory, just a thought on my part! :)
