Can someone settle a dispute i'm having with someone?
I use Brownberry Ovens Bakery light 100% whole wheat bread. It's 40 calories per slice. 5 G of fiber per 2 slices. It has soy fiber, whole wheat flour (the first ing. listed), soy flour and wheat bran among other ing.s
My friend says it is not as good as a whole grain bread.
I say it IS a whole grain bread, because wheat is a grain. If it weren't, it couldn't say 100% WHOLE WHEAT on the wrapper.
Who is right? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I was told to make sure the very first word in the ingredients is 'WHOLE'..
I am as confused as you.. Maybe when it says its whole grain, the actual seeds or grain thingies are there instead of ground up? LOL

tilly--have your friend grab her bread bag, you grab your bread bag, and COMPARE INGREDIENTS!! I've found huge caloric, nutrient, and fiber differences from "healthy" type to "healthy" type, and really, you choose the one you like best and that gives you the best nutrients. I found a bread a while ago that had SUPER fiber content, but I swear it was like eating composting mulch, just not nice at all. So I have a sweet dark oat and wheat bread that I like, high-ish in sugar, not so high in fiber (4g, I think) --but hey, I like it, I only eat 2 slices a day, and it's healthy.
If your friend likes her bread, and you like your bread, then smile and agree to disagree!! Vive la difference!!

I always go for the bread that's higher in fiber count whether it says 'whole' or not. 5 grams is very high when it comes to bread so I'd stick with what you are buying.

If you have the whole grain, you can see pieces of it in the bread. Whole wheat is ground up grain. I personally can't stand those no taste breads that are billed as low calorie. I'd rather spend a little more and get satisfied with less.

I always thought that whole grain meant that the whole grain was ground up, like the outer layer, or the bran part of it, the middle layer and the very center, or the germ of it too. I don't think it matters how finely it's ground, .. whether it's in pieces that you can see, or not. There are a lot of different grains, and wheat is just one of them.
I really like the flavor of this bread. It has a nice nutty-type flavor.
But, I understand what you're saying. I feel the same way about butter vs margarine. I'd rather have less butter and enjoy the taste.

I look at fiber too! Lots of those breads out there that claim to be whole have very little fiber.
But we have to like what we eat, or again it will be sabatage.
