Buttercup 07-05-03, 01:50 PM So I'm at the 6 month mark of my new way of life and I'm noticing that my motivation to go exercise is staring to wane. :( I need motivation! help! :( vendigirl 07-05-03, 01:57 PM Would it help if you started a new exercise program? Maybe getting into something new- a great boxing class, aquafit, or maybe training for a certain event like a bike race or run for charity would boost your motivation. It always helps if you have a goal to shoot for. I'm lucky if I can go 7 weeks without getting bored with my exercise regimen and losing motivation. You've done great! jessica 07-05-03, 02:26 PM LOOK AT YOU LOSE, YOU 70S GIRL YOU!!:eyes: (that's me bering green with envy) There's a really good thread in the exercise forum, all about "tricking myself into exercise"--it has some great tips. My experience with exercise has been either an eager, can't wait to sweat, get me to the gym, twitch twitch--thing, or, like swallowing a nasty, large, bitter pill, something you *have* to do... Mostly it's the bitter pill. Inherently, I think I'm pretty darned lazy, and I have to fight this tendency. Cindy has great tips, too; I've actually done the "training for a certain event" thing (in June I did a 5K and a sprint triathalon); as well, changing up your program might be what you need (I don't know what you're doing now, but maybe running, biking, walking outside in the eve or am instead of the gym, maybe plan "exercise weekends"--hiking, biking, whatever) I think we have to mix things up every so often, or that bitter pill is harder to take... jessica 07-05-03, 02:56 PM here's that thread-- http://www.diettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34925 Buttercup 07-13-03, 01:05 PM Thanks for the suggestions! I have been trying to vary my exercise routine.. especially now that the weather is nice. Yesterday i took a walk around the community college across the street from my apartment (it was nice trails), then I took a quick swim back at the apartment complex. :) I think my problem now is that it seems like every week there's some kind of occasion where eating lots of food (or alcohol) takes place. I had birthday celebrations, parties, bar hopping, visits to the parents house, etc. come along and my will-power has waned to say the least. :( I'm going to start using fitday.com again to track my calories and begin working out how I used to... argh.. bleh... well at least i haven't gained any weight! I just want to continue losing it! :) thanks again! PS... oh yeah, one way I've found to get my butt back in the gym is by bringing a book with me. I'm always busy doing other things during the day that the only time I have to read a book is when I'm walking on a treadmill! :P |
