View Full Version : CLUELESS about SHEER DRESSES and VISIBLE PANTIES!!! (totally off-topic)

I NEVER wear dresses. EVER. The last time I wore a dress I also wore a diaper.

Lately, though, I've been feeling better about my body and I bought myself a couple of really pretty dresses.

Unfortunately, the fabric is very sheer and my panties are perfectly visible (I'm glad I tried the dresses on in front of the mirror before going anywhere)!

So what do I do? Slips are so old fashioned... isn't there another way? What does a girl do these days?

Slips are still the only solution I know of ... unless of course you want to show those pretty undies:o

I guess I would sugest lining the dresses.
Hope that works

Another option would be pretty, flesh-toned underthings, then layering with a longer cardigan. Alot of the "sheers" are meant to entice, so you *could* be brave and wear enticing things... Or talk to a salesperson of lingerie as to other different options ...

Slips may be old fashioned but there are some very pretty "updated" styles.

But other than a slip, Jess gave you a great option.

About the only route you can go is a slip...Slips aren't as tacky as they used to be...

A silky slip will well hide the lines (bra and panty). Of course you can go with a full or half slip depending on what area you are smoothing out. I tend to go with a half slip-they seem less confining. Slips are good to have on when it is sunny out too.

There are several lingerie options available. I found panties from Victoria Secret to be helpful. The ones I wear say Body by Victoria Secret-light shaping. There are of course thongers, but mine tend to get lost and I hate looking for them- if you know what I mean!

Sometimes I go up a size and I lose the lines. Sometimes the next size up is just too big. Good luck!

I vote for flesh-toned underwear. It's what I do when I wear a sheer top. :) The worst thing you could do is wear underwear the same color as the item (white thongs with tight white pants were the NASTIEST thing I saw this summer).

If your not feeling as daring as lisad00 suggested, just wear pantyhose they "kinda" have a panty. :o

Hee hee... thanks! Now I know what I'll be wearing for Halloween! That should be plenty scary, don't ya think? Women will cover their husbands' eyes in fear! ;)

Well, I am sorry, but this chick would not be caught dead with daylight showing thru her dress or skirt! alot of the half slips are really pretty and super comfy... there are also lacy culotte type panties that can be worn.. just check out your favorite lingerie store.. I am sure they can advise.

I was brought up old school I guess.. is not lady like to see it all shining thru a dress or skirt... course alot of the young girls do it, but, I am no longer a teenager and I dont like advertising... keep the mystery!

Dea,

I may never wear white pants again! I usually wear flesh tone underwear. If I wear black then I go with black, etc. If I have jeans on I wear any color I want and it usually matches my top! P.S. Seamless bras and panties are great because they don't show the lines as much. The course of being a woman!

Neta, I was brought up "old school" as well. When I wear a dress, sheer or not...I have on a slip and panty hose. Only if it's a long denim skirt or a very heavy fabric would I go without either of those. That's just the way I do it. I am very envious of those that go bare legged...I just dont have the gams for it! I do think the slips and other lingerie have improved so much..they are just beautiful! I dont know what to say about thongs...I've seen some very slim women wearing them so tight along with their pants or skirts that it isn't very flattering. But...what do I know?

Ah yes, the things we have to think about. I actually never wear white pants because I worry too much about getting stuff on them LOL. As long as it's not see-through (which isn't often), I wear any old thing. But my faves are the cotton bikinis from Victoria's Secret. Pretty and comfy. And breathable. This thread reminds me that it's time to go buy more!

I was brought up old school as well. But slips are just yuck. And they bunch up. And pantyhose w/the wrong kind of material makes the skirt bunch up or cling to your legs so then you have to resort to carrying around dryer sheets or lotion to try to defeat the cling thing. Not to mention that I often will get a run in my hose before I even make it to the train station at 7am. So then I have to carry about $20 worth of hose with me if I wear hose that day. Less is more to me!

Hee hee... Maybe I'll just switch to kilts instead of dresses!
Problem solved!
