I started this weightloss journey in Arpril 03. The first 15 pounds came off really easily. I was losing 2 to 3 pounds a week no problem with just being more careful with what I was eating. Nothing drastic just trying to keep calories around 1700 - 1800 a day. Then the weightloss slowed to a crawl.

I started excercising 3 to 4 days a week after a couple of months, both aerobics and doing some weight training, but the darn scale still is moving really really slowly. The last seven pounds have taken 3 plus months, on the other hand my clothes are definitely looser so I know my body is changing somehow.

I guess I'm interested if any of you been there done that diettalkers have experienced this really slow period of weightloss. Does it ever increase or should I just be glad that eventually the scale is going down. I'm not going to stop working out and being more careful about what I eat, but I could really use some encouragement and good advice :)

Thanks,
Deni

Deni first of all congrats on the weight lost.. Actually what you are experiencing is muscle gain.. Muscle weighs more than fat and eventually the scales will catch up with a loss...The longer it takes to lose the weight the longer it will stay off...Like the saying goes "Slow and steady wins the race" ..Try not to get discouraged....Have you been taking your meaurements as well or are you clothes feeling looser??? Give it time...And again congratulations... :D

First things first. Welcome to DT :D

Absolutely congratulations on your progress! What a wonderful
achievement!

And to second what's been stated. Whenever the scales stop
showing progress look to the tape measure! 9 out of 10 times
it will be showing there.

Keep up the good work! It's working just the way it should from
the sounds of it! fwiw from what I've heard and read the last
10 pounds take their sweet time in leaving, but leave they do!

Your doing great!

Thanks you guys.

You know Joanne my clothes do feel looser. Its great I'm actually wearing clothes that I haven't worn since before I got pregnant with my first son, so almost 4 years ago. That is super exciting for me!

I didn't start out taking my measurements Skew, but I'm sure going to keep track of it now. Wish I'd done it to begin with but live and learn :)

When I first started and realized I wanted to lose 100 pounds I was just overwhelmed. I decided I wasn't going to think of that way I was just going to think of it as losing 1 pound, then after that I would lose another.

Thanks for the encouragement and the advice,
Deni

Okay here's a thought for what it's worth :)

Head to a website that sells clothing and has a guide
for what size fits what. Put in the size you wore pre
weight loss. Write down there measurements.

Take what the tape measure is saying are today's.
Subtract.

Jump around the room shouting "I Rock!" :D
Feel free to do a little dance too! *g*

While the scales are satisfying for sure, there's still
something about seeing the inches gone right there
on paper, that really sends it out of the park!

Keep on keepin on Deni! :D

thanks, Skew-- the clothing suggestion helps me--I *wouldn't* measure myself at size 18 (too freakin' depressing) so I have no idea where I *really* started from...

I've been meaning to pore through old journally stuff, get my progress plotted. This motivates me to Just Do It.

:) thanks!!

Your Welcome Jessica!
Most of the sizing charts give the basics. Bust waist hips.
Which while not everything that could be measured gives
a good idea of inches lost when compared. :D

And that is very empowering I think! Tape measures really
can be our friend lol :)
