I currently weigh 209 pounds and I am 5'9.5" and I want to get to 170.

This is what I am currently doing to acheive that goal. I go the gym twice a week and do 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and then do about 45 minutes of weights.

My Breakfast is one hard fried egg using no butter or grease just a tephlon pan a fried piece of light bologna and a toasted piece of weight bread in addition to one cup of low fat yogurt and one glass of milk.

Lunch is 1 can of tuna, an apple, and a glass of water.

Dinner is just whatever we cook but I watch my portions.

What do you guys think do you think this will work?

First let me Welcome You to DT! :)

As far as working is concerned. I'm not an expert by any
means other then dealing with my own body and what works
and doesn't work for it/me.

I would think, however, working would depend on a couple
of factors not stated. Gender, age, how active a life you have
over and above working out twice a week.

Bottom line I think anything can work short term. It's keeping to
the long haul that can be difficult to achive. This isn't so much
about dieting now but, and again speaking only for myself,
but changing an entire lifetime of food choices, eating habits
and exercise.

Check out the specific diet options on the main page and see if
there's one that looks like it could work for you for the
rest of your life. Without pinching or driving you nutz.

That's the entire battle. Finding something that works that we
can live with thus keeping it working and us not looking for
an escape clause.

Or that might just be me.... :)

Thanks for the reply!

As for my usual activity I sit behind a desk and take phonecalls all day. As for the rest of my life I try to be as active as possible I do household chores, I park as far from the store as possible to get the exercise, etc.. As far as me I am a male and 23 years old who used to be very athletic in High School but who learned the beauty of McDonalds shortly after graduation.

I might also "up" the gym time to 5 times a week, or at least getting active with cardio 5x a week (it doesn't *have* to be formal exercise.) (the reccomendations I have always gone by are, 3x week cardio=maintenance, 5x wk= loss.)

I think, eating what you're talking about probably *would* get you to lose weight, but I think I would get quickly hungry on that amount of food, and nothing sabotages my "diet" attempts quite like hunger. Maybe try adding in a couple of high protein/high fiber snacks (yogurt and fruit, or small pc cheese and celery, or cottage gheese and pineapple....ya get the picture...)

and as Skew mentions, you have to make some adaptations for life, or you will keep "fighting" the same pounds on and off.

good luck!! :)

I'll also suggest vegetables for you. They help fill up a body and, believe it or not, they are good for you. Lots of variety -different colors, textures, etc.

And drink lots of water. It also helps fill you up, hydrates your body, and is also very good for you.

You are getting started well. Stay positive, learn as much as you can about nutrition and all that stuff. And when you figure out what works for you, you will then be on your way to a long and productive life.

Good luck to you, and please keep posting at Diettalk.

I think your calories are a little low, especially with you working out. You will loose weight for a while eating like that but then you will go into starvation mode and no matter how much you exercise, lift weights, watch what you eat, etc. you will not loose weight until you start eating more....I would probably be close to my goal right now if I would have just listened to other people and started eating more. Good luck though, you have made a great start by asking questions.

Oops, I forgot to find out how many calories you should be eating go to fitday.com and go under tools and then calories it will ask you a couple of questions and then give you how many calories you should be eating per day, but be careful the first number they give you is to maintain your weight but if you read further down it tells you to subtract 750 calories to loose weight. Again, Good Luck.
