Every 20 pounds or so I re-adjust my calories, but out of curosity I went into other sites and used the same information about myself each time (female, 39 years old, 207 lbs., 5'5, moderate activity level) and saw that the sites varied by 300+ calories.....that confused me, but it also got me to wondering because I had broken my leg a few months back and dropped weight better than when I was exercising and lifting weights, well I assumed I needed to add more calories but that turned out not to be the case and still lost weight very slowly, but my question is; is what site do you go to to find out how many calories you should be eating? Or, if your stats are/or were near mine I would love to know how many calories you were eating and still loosing weight. Thanks for any information. Tina
There was a study published a few months back which went into detail about how the formula many folks use, while it works pretty well for healthy weight folks, overstates calories burned for the obese. I use a formula endorsed by my obesity clinic ... figuring they know they're stuff given how much better their success rate is than the average success rate. It's basically 11x body weight in pounds (for women) to MAINTAIN.

Hi Tina,
I think a lot of people use the method Bicker described above. I read somewhere that it was 11x bodyweight to maintain, and 10x bodyweight to lose. I tried that method but I don't think it works well for people that exercise very vigorously. I found that I wasn't getting enough calories with that method. But I think if you're a low to moderate exerciser then that method probably works very well.
I use a calculation from M&F Hers to determine my caloric needs. It's individually based on your weight, height and age and you factor in your workout/activity level, so from week to week you could modify your needs based on your workouts/activity.
Donna
p.s. Way to go Tina, you are doing great!
By looking at your stats, your doing the right thing already.. so don't let these "sites" confuse you. I think we all need to find what works for "ourselves".

To maintain, you'd simply add in exercise calories to the number you get using the formula. There is a rather substantial amount of controversy about that -- many people (though not I) feel that you shouldn't "eat your exercise."
Thanks for the input guys!!
Bicker - Happy Birthday :bd....early, but we should both feel wonderful that were not carrying an extra 91+ pounds and celebrating this new decade in our lives :O feeling better than we have in a long time. Although it doesn't look like I'm going to meet my goal I'm still happy with my success.
Donna - As always your an inspiration and just give very helpful information.
John - The site is great and I love it!!! Thanks for being here for all of us. And your right just keep doing what I'm doing and eventually I'll get there.....but I'm one of those people who want it and I WANT IT NOW, but I'm learning believe me! Congratulations on hitting your goal weight and then some! :ribbon:
