View Full Version : calculate your body frame size
penguin 02-12-04, 09:30 PM I found an interesting link (edited new link - the other link would not work unless you were registered, sorry). It works out your underlying body frame size using your wrist measurements.

I'm large framed - so no matter how much weight I lose I'll always be a heavy girl! Figures.... 8-|
jessica 02-12-04, 09:44 PM :( it wouldn't let me log in. But I know I'm a big boned eastern euro girl. I'll never be a waif.:c(
penguin 02-12-04, 09:49 PM Sorry about that- I just checked the link and it seems to be working OK for me. Wonder what's up?
jessica 02-12-04, 09:57 PM ??? No worries...
bird songs 02-12-04, 09:59 PM I am large framed, but I already knew that, one time I was shoved in a CAT scan, and the guy doing it told me I had a giant skelton and he showed me a pic...
Like I had something to compare it to LOL

If you are a member of the e-diets uk and have logon. Then you logon credentials were saved on your computer and that is why you can see the site freely.

I've always wondered whether my frame size was medium or small. I guess it is small.
My wrist circumference is less than 6.25" and my elbow breath is less than 2-3/8".
sierragirl 02-12-04, 10:58 PM I am right at 6.25...so I guess I am a medium!
JoThrive 02-13-04, 12:03 AM I'm a large frame. :c( But frame size is certainly something that I can do nothing about.
I'm a small frame with extra weight piled on. No wonder my body hurts at times.
Renee:)
I'm a shortie with a large frame...
Lisrey
:D i'm medium framed. two doctors told me that. one did it the old fashioned way-having me hold hand out for her to look at and then getting my height, weight and age. at that time, i was in my twenties and around 150. at that time, my mother thought i was over weight. when our doctor told her that my weight was right where it should be for a woman my height, frame and age. several years later, i needed to have a bone scan done. the doctor told me i was of medium build. however, by then i was weighing 200 plus and needed to lose weight. that was eight years ago.
Small. Which is why Everything hurt and ached at 199 and
nothing does at 135 unless I've been walking concrete floors at
every_home_improvement_store in a 40 state area.
DH's idea of fun and yes, that was an exaggeration...
Minor... *g*
Goal is 115 by Thanksgiving. Its taken 5 years to get this far.
Rushing doesn't seem to be in my nature does it? lol
Skew
patricians2001 02-14-04, 03:48 PM I am short 5"1' with a large frame (6.5). Thanks for this link. I think it answered an important question for me. I could never imagine myself at the mid or lower end of the weight charts for my height. I thought I'd feel frail. I see from this that I should be at the upper end. That also addresses discussions I've seen here, when someone says they are a particular weight and I often question why they want to go lower. But it's like Skew said, if you have a small frame the higher ends don't work for you. So it's more than just height.
Pat
Absolutely! For most of my adult life I wore a size 5 shoe, a
size 2 ring and finding bracelets that fit was almost
impossible. Watch bands were a pita as well.
All of which made it very clear my frame was on the small size
and it had every reason in the world to be ticked off. *g*
Too bad no one told my shoulders and back. No matter how much
or little I weigh, they live on lol

That is where I was at and I am 5'9". My boyfriend was trying to call me big boned the other day. I told him I am not big boned. I am just fat.
KimmyKat 02-20-04, 12:29 PM Mooooooo. I have almost 7 inch wrists. An easier way to tell without measuring is this: wrap your middle (birdie) finger and thumb around your opposite wrist. If they overlap, small frame. If they touch, medium frame. If there's a space between, large frame. One thing about being large, we can get away with a higher weight. Proof? Me at 5'8" and almost 170 lbs (http://home.comcast.net/~kimmykat63/wsb/html/view.cgi-photo.html--SiteID-1334483.html) The brunette on the right.
penguin 02-20-04, 02:19 PM But I have big wrists AND long fingers! I can touch my fingers around my wrist easily but I'm still large framed (over 7" wrist at 5' 5'').
Sassy Cassie 05-12-05, 03:22 PM I don't understand how you measure at the elbow. :help:
LOL, I have always known I was big frame, huge wrists even when skinny.
And don't worry about being a large frame, first of all you don't have to kill yourself getting down to a lower weight, and second, you can have some great curves to go with your height. Skin and bones is not attractive, curves and muscles are awesome.
Of course I am also 6' tall so big frame is suitable for me.
Well, its weird. I have a large frame... but its just on the border of large based on the wrist... which is about 6.75 inches around after loosing 49lbs. I am taller than average though. 5' 8.5"
I wonder if I was able to loose 20lbs more would I be medium... hmm... hard to say... but I don't think I could loose that much more, its been impossible to get this far and go much lower throughout my life.
brightonbell 06-02-05, 12:11 PM well, I'm somewhere between medium and large, I think, if I got the elbow measuring thing right which was a bit confusing...
I never thought I was small framed, and when I did used to weigh 140lbs I was very skinny, and could never see how I could lose another 20lbs and still be in the ideal weight range. I guess those ideal weight range things take into account the whole range of possible frame sizes. It makes me feel much happier to know that I'm not ever supposed to weigh 120lbs!!
