just because they are good for you?

I do all the time. I don't like peppers, cucumber, tomatoes, squash or zucchini but I eat them for their nutritional value.

What foods do you not like? Do you eat them anyways? Do you expect your kids to eat foods they don't like?

Nope! I only eat foods I like. There are enough choices in any food group that if I don't like 1 or 2 of them there's probably 5 or 6 that I love. :D

The only time I eat a food I dont like, is because I think I dont like it and maybe I can get used to it, like Salmon.

But in general, no way!
I am like Donna, there are so any good foods I like that I dont have to worry about it.

Regarding my son, I go after him to try stuff, because he doesnt even know if he likes it or not, but if he doesnt like it afterwords, nope on that too!

Nope, I never eat food I don't like. There isn't a whole lot I don't like but what I don't I do not eat. Like beets, the whole family likes it, I think its nasty so I don't eat it when I fix it for them. As far as the kids go I don't make them eat want they don't like. I might make them try something once but after that I don't make them eat it. But fortunately, there are very few things they don't like.

I always encouraged my children to try every new veggie I could..Not a big serving but a bit..they learned to like all veggies..including spinach...turnip..zucchini..squash...even liver...I sometimes eat food that I am not totally in love with but I know it is nutritionally good for me and I find the more I eat of those things the more I am getting to like them too.

I really never met a food I didn't like, except for cooked turnips. Coudn't stand them when I was a kid, won't eat them now. But I enjoy eating everything else.

There are some things I don't eat because they are not good for me. Otherwise I pretty much try to stick with a balanced menu of nutritional foods. Actually eating is one of the joys of life. :D

I guess I am the odd one out. :) There are so many foods I don't like that I kinda have to eat some of them anyways. I usually try to hide them in things like adding little zucchini chuncks to spaghetti sauce or something. I cut peppers up really small and add them to omlets and sauces too. There are some I won't eat at all no matter what, like celery. I HATE that stuff.

I make Lori try everything at least once and if it's been awhile since we've had something she didn't like before I make her try it again. I don't make her eat foods she doesn't like though. If I want to eat foods I don't like then thats my choice and it's not fair to try to make her do the same.

Actually Star, that's a great way to get your veggies in. I've read many times that for those who don't really "care for" veggies, they can get in some healthy servings by chopping up veggies into other foods, scrambling peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes or broccoli into eggs, adding them to sauces for a pasta or rice dish, adding them to sandwiches, etc. So whatever works for you is great! It all counts!

Nope I never eat something I don't like. I like many veggies though. So does my 5 year old... so I don't really have to worry about a picky eater. Thank God.

Anyway, There are sooo many veggies and foods out there to choose from, there is no way that I would cook or put something on my plate that I don't like. But I do try new things from time to time and I make my 5 year old try new things too. If we don't like it, I make a round of phone calls and I find someone that does, and usually they are very happy to get whatever it is I cooked. (especially grandmas lol)

Jojo...I thought I was the only one with turnip "issues"--my aunt in hungary tried to feed me turnips when I was 8 and I thought she was trying to poison me! That and rutabaga.

I find, even foods I think I don't like can be palateable if someone else cooks them. :) However, if after a bite I don't like it, I won't eat it.

Oh, yes. Cooked turnips don't suit me, and I don't suit them.

I happily eat them raw though. :D

There are loads of things I hate, so I just don't eat them! There are so many other foods, so it's easy to get a healthy diet anyway.

things I hate - :-&

pickled beetroots
raw onions
salsa with raw onions
emmental cheese
indian sour pickles
all meat especially pork
lard
cream
melted cheese
salt and vinegar crisps
lobster
smoked fish (but I love smoked cheese)
too many chillies - makes me hiccup
coffee
tiramisu
whiskey (although I'm Irish!)

Strange list...

I am like you, Star... I am a picky eater and there are a lot of things I don't like. Many are green veggies. I make myself try veggies now and then, to see if my tastes have changed, and I will force down some salad in a fancy restaurant for appearances, but otherwise I do not eat them. I read an article in a recent issue of "Health" magazine about "supertasters." These people have an extremely high sensitivity to bitterness in foods, especially in green vegetables. I am SURE I am one of these people!

Other things I don't like: mushrooms, mayonnaise, salad dressings, beer, melons, cooked eggs...

I figure that if I'm limiting calories, I ought to spend them on things I enjoy eating and can savor. I take a multivitamin daily to try to make up for the lack of veggies, and I eat tons of fruit, which I love. Like someone mentioned above, my tastes do change, and I have learned to really enjoy some things I used to dislike, such as whole-grain breads.

No kids here, so I don't have to force anyone to eat anything they don't want to eat!
