Colter 12-21-05, 12:43 AM I tell myself there is no choice but I will control my diabetes without medication. Also I am rewarding myself with a new tattoo when I hit 210 which will be a total 140 lb loss. (49 lbs to go) and I want to have that tat by May 2006. If I look at a picture of myself 90 lbs heavier I lose my appetite LOL. cfj 12-21-05, 08:21 PM I have heard of lots of motivations, tricks, etc. that allows people to do it. That said, it is very hard to do. I was at the point where I was afraid that I was slowly killing myself, and was tired of it. Every time that I eat, I think about what I want out of life, and make a choice to stick with it. Sometimes I blow it, for sure. But most times I am able to pay attention to what is really making me want to eat. I'm an emotional eater, and it is usually because of something someone said or did, how I feel about something that I said or did, etc. This approach has worked for me up to this point. I still love food. It is not the enemy that I thought it was before. I just have to control how much of it I can have. Sounds simple, but is pretty darn complicated to pull off. Putting myself on any type of diet is absolutely out of the question for me because it only promotes more binge eating. And when I try to just eat healthy every ounce of my being screams with fear. It's like someone is trying to cut my right arm off. But I have hope.... My hope is that I will learn through working the 12 step program that I can get deal with life on life's terms without looking for something outside myself for comfort. I am learning that when I am feeling difficult, uncomfortable feelings I can just sit quietly and actually survive them without them killing me. Sorry, that probably didn't help you. Sometimes I get started and I just ramble on about my own "stuff". Maybe some others here will offer some helpful suggestions to us both. Cindy LadyWendy 12-21-05, 09:06 PM Hmmmm - the foods that tempt you -- if you are meaning junk good like cake, cookies, chips, chocolate, pop and all the other goodies that fall into this catagory than I would say throw out what you have and don't buy anymore. I have had so many people respond to me when I say this " but it has to be in the house for my kids" The rest of the family doesn't need the junk either. My Grandchildren are age 5,3,and 1 and my sisters kids are 18 and 15 and they will choose a piece of fruit or a veggie platter any time over junk. That is what is and always has been available to them. As for the diet part. You have to find a healthy meal plan that you can live with for the rest of your life. Not a diet but a lifestyle. Diets don't work - as soon as you go off them - you gain the weight back and a few extra to go along with it. We've all been there LOL Hope you find your answers Wanttolose. Wishing you all the best this Holiday Season. Enjoy the weather the next week or so, sounds like it going to be nice over Christmas. Digital Girl 12-21-05, 09:12 PM How do you stick to your diet? How do you keep away from the foods that tempt you? 1. I eat only when hungry and try to limit junk, I do not drink sugar drinks at all and drink plenty of water, greentea and the like. I do have whipped cream is my coffee in winter months (the non sugar type). I stick to it becasue I feel better and I know it is not the end of the world if I can not eat that cake today, but I save it for holidays and special occasions that keeps me going. I seriously do love food and have a serious pallet! Exercise 40 minuites a day and if I am too tired one day I make it up on the weekend. 2. I do not buy them, they are not in the house and when I feel like snacking I get a large coffee or drink, then If I am still hungry I snack, but after few bites I feel full and I wake up hungry. Exercise is key!!! Exercise helps with endorphines and keeps my anxiety and panic at bay! Colter 12-21-05, 10:23 PM Digital Girl, you are so right. Excercise is the key that holds the healthy eating lifestyle together. The dopamine that food satiation would produce actually can be gained through excercise. Plus, excersice kind of kills my appettite for large portions. Food becomes too heavy. The hardest part is it can be so easy to make excuses for chilling out and not doing cardio. This is my first winter where I am on an excercise regime. I love jogging outdoors in the woods. The treadmill inside cannot compare. I try to do it in cold MI but I swear I get too chilled and I do not want hypothermia, :) |
