View Full Version : New Here
FreshStart06 01-01-06, 01:15 PM Hello all, first I want to say happy new years to everyone. I hope that this year will be a great year for everyone. I'm planning to make it the best year for me. I'm new here (not brand new) and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Nina, and I'm 21 years old, and I have a lot of weight to lose. I'm following the low G.I. Diet and so far so good today. If anyone is interested in lending support and getting support, leave a reply or message! :)
nebraska 01-01-06, 01:56 PM Welcome! I am not new here, either, but I haven't posted for a while. I was active in the Boot Camp challenge and had lots of success with making change in 2 week increments, but have fallen by the wayside and since Boot Camp has closed down, I am looking for a new place to hang out. It was extremely valuable learning that I can make significant change by picking one or two items and focusing on just that before adding other challenges.
I am awaiting my copy of FLYlady's Body Clutter book and control journal and have joined a Yahoo Group based on that program. I think FLYlady will be a lot like Dr. Phil in that she is going to expect us to dig through our underlying mind clutter and learn to let go of old messages and love ourselves enough to make healthy changes because we are worth it.
January 1 is always a dramatic day to start something new; however, I think we need to be realistic and remember that it is just another day followed by many more days, and we all just have to do one day at a time.
michelle3 01-01-06, 07:27 PM Hi Freshstart and welcome to Diettalk (even if you're not brand new!).
I've heard really good things about the GI Diet and would be very interested to hear how you get on. Try not to think about having "a lot of weight to lose" but break it down into manageable stages. Perhaps you could just think about the first 20 pounds and then go from there. Even relatively small weight losses will make a difference to how you feel both physically and emotionally.
You're in the right place for support and it sounds like you're determined. Don't forget to keep us up to date with how you're getting on (which day are you weighing-in and how often?).
FreshStart06 01-02-06, 09:06 PM Thank you very much for the reply nebraska and Michelle3! I'm really excited to be on this journey. I've let my weight hold me back from a lot of things that normal 21 year olds do. I'm just honestly fed up with it. I've basically just finished my second day of the G.I. diet (I have one more snack to get in). It's coming along pretty well. My only problem is that I need to cook. I have a low G.I. cook book, but I hate to cook so the meals have been pretty basic and bland, but I plan to change that around once school starts back up in a week or so. When I'm a school and actually doing something besides sitting around, I'm less hungry so hopefully things will work better. I only plan to weight myself once a week, and my weigh in day will be on Sundays so I will know then how good the G.I. diet is working for me. Anyways, thank you for replying and wish you the best of luck with your plans and workouts.
BlackBird 01-04-06, 12:09 AM Hey Nina! I'm new here too, and also 21. I just wanted to wish good luck with your plan. It sounds like you're off to a good start so far. :) Personally, I really like cooking (it's the cleaning up afterwards I hate). Just remember that the reward is getting to eat something yummy and healthy for you. Anyways.. again, best of luck and I'm sure I'll see you around...

FreshStart06 01-04-06, 04:04 PM Thanks Blackbird and Tiana for the welcome. I greatly appreciate it. I'm on day four of my new changes, and it's going pretty darn well if I may say so myself. I went to the doctors yesterday because I have diabetes and wanted to make sure everything was in check before school started. He told me I weighed 302, which is a 4 pound loss so far. I'm not counting it though until I weigh Sunday, which will be a week from when I started. He also told me my blood sugar and blood pressure was fine, so it looks like I'm getting along pretty well. I know I want to lose this wait for vanity reasons, but it is way important for me to be healthy, so that is what really motivates me. There's no point in being skinny and cute if you aren't healthy to enjoy it.
penguin 01-05-06, 11:17 AM Just to say hello and welcome to Diet Talk, FreshStart and Blackbird! I'm sure you'll find this site really useful - I have. I think it's the best thing ON THE PLANET for losing weight and keeping it off.
There's the forums, the information, and my favourite, keeping a journal. I like to keep a journal of my daily exercise and reward myself with treats every time I reach a certain number of 'exercise points'. Everyone drops into each other's journals too for a bit of a chat now and then.
Have you checked out the stories of the DietTalk stars? They're pretty inspiring too.

You seem to have the right idea FreshHealth - it's all about long-term health - GOOD LUCK! :balloons:
