Hello everyone,

A friend from France recommended this diet to lose some pounds before I get pregnant again (gained 40 pounds with first pregnancy), I have been doing it since this Sunday and I think I am loosing too much too fast. I never thought I would be complaining about that! Basically, the diet consists of as much Basmati rice as you like for breakfast (no butter, only olive oil to dress), then salad with olive oil and cider vinegar or lemon dressing, meat, and cooked veggies for lunch, then potato (without butter, only olive oil or soy based margarine), more cooked veggies and salad for dinner. She adds some yogurt for desert. She mentioned that you don't have to be quite that strict after the first two weeks, and you can have pasta instead of potatoes. You are also supposed to eat fruit in between meals at least 2.5 hours after your last meal. Does anyone know what diet this is? I am not sure that this is healthy to do for any length of time.

I started at 189 on Sunday and I was 186 this morning. What do you guys think? :help:

Cheers,
Lorraine

I think you are doing ok. 3 lbs in a week. Is mostly water. Remember lemon is a direutic. Ans I see no salt in the menu you described. Also lettuce has like 5 calories and 1/3 cup of rice is 100 calories. So you are looking at 1000-1200 calories on that meal plan and that will make you lose. by the end of 2nd week. 2 real lbs shoud be gone and about 3-5 lbs of water weight.

As a little boost at the beginning, that sounds okay - I wouldn't do it for any length of time - looks like you aren't getting much in the way of dairy. It also sounds like it might be a little too low calorie, but that depends on the amounts you are eating I suppose. But lisad00 is probably right, the first 3 pounds are probably water since it sounds like that diet might be low salt too.

It doesn't sound bad to me. Are you eating white or brown rice? You don't need too much protein - meat/day -like 4 ounces. Dairy - milk - is calcium and I think protein. There's calcium in some green vegetables. My motto is to eat nutrient dense foods and not worry about the calorie count so much. Olive oil vs. butter is supposed to be good for you, too.

This is my first day at this website and am finding myself coming back rather than eating something that I shouldn't.

Thank you for the input guys!

I am eating both brown and white rice and I have been putting a bit of salt on the potatoes. I haven't been having any dairy at all, I think after the first week I will add some yogurt or cottage cheese to make it a bit more balanced.

Does this diet resemble anything you have heard of before? How long do you think I can do it safely without a break? Thanks again!!! : )

This seems like a diet that you could do for a while. It appearss to include protein, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, with the addition a recognized source of calcium in cottage cheese and or yogurt, it seems fine. I'd check out if non-fat milk is higher in calcium than the cottage cheese and yogurt. I would also be sure to have variety on the choices of protein, vegetables, etc. and take vitamins. Also, don't forget the importance of exercise.
