Since about November, I have been wearing a pedometer every day. I'm a number counter in almost everything I do and this helps me keep up with how active I am being. 1 mile is about 2,000 steps. I started trying to average 10,000 steps per day. Now I'm up to trying to average 12,000 steps per day.

Does anyone else use a pedometer? What step goals have you set for yourself?

So many of us don't realize that 'activity' does not so much mean aerobics and strength building, but, simply being on our feet doing things instead of sitting or driving around.

Sounds like you've got a great routine going for you. If you'd care to donate your steps, and can find a Canadian area and postal code to provide, you can 'donate' your steps as well as having your progress graphically displayed, at: www.canadaonthemove.ca (https://www.canadaonthemove.ca/INMD/main.do?task=display)

ps. From time to time, I wear a pedometer, but I've not established a consistent routine.

Wow. How do you get in that many steps per day? I doubt I even get in 1000 a day (excluding time spent on Gazelle), but I have a desk job and am normally glued to the computer or phone.

I've really had to work to get that many steps. I walk every chance I get--skip the close parking spaces, run short errands for myself instead of asking my husband to bring me something, etc. I do little things like (I'm a teacher) walk laps around the playground when I have lunch duty. It's made me much more aware of how active I am.

I just bought the cheap one at Wal-Mart. It works ok for me. I have to wear it on the side of my hip--I can't wear it near the front at all. I have had trouble adjusting the step measurement increment. But I have practiced to make sure it counts accurately. And as long as I wear it in the same place every day, I am measuring my ability level from one day to the next, even if it is an abstract number.

You'd be surprised how many steps you do do every day. Dishes, vacuuming, beds..... I used mine until I put it through the washing machine with the laundry.

I find my weight doesn't come off unless I keep my steps over 10,000
10,000 a day will keep me at the same weight but if I steadily keep it over 10,000 every day of the week the weight will come off.
Keep walking!!!

What kind of diet are you using with the step program?
