In order to understand how to lose fat it helps to know what happens to food in your body after it is eaten. Once you understand this you may begin to realize what many of the falsities are when it comes to fat loss.

The first thing you must realize is that fat loss is all about calories. Eat more calories then you burn and you will gain fat, eat less calories then you burn and you will lose fat, period! This fact never changes, Carbs dont make you fat, Fat doesnt make you fat and protein doesnt make you fat. Too much of any of those makes you fat! The hardest part about this is knowing how many calories you are burning. this can be estimated but it will be different from one person to the next.

Ok, now what happens after we eat? The First principal you must understand is that only one of 2 things can be done with the calories that we consume, they can either be USED or STORED, nothing else can be done with them. Lets look at Carbs, Fats and Proteins separately. I will explain this in very simple terms with out getting too in detail

CARBS:

When you eat carbs they are broken down into glucose in the blood stream. Insulin is released to remove the Glucose from the blood stream to be used or stored. The first thing that happens is that the body will use what it needs at that moment in time, when it has used all it needs it will then store the excess. the excess can be stored in two different places, Glycogen and Fat. The first place it will go is glycogen, if there is not enough room in glycogen for all of it the rest will be stored in fat.

FATS:

When you eat fats they are broken down into Fatty Acids. The body will use what it needs at the time and then store any excess in fat for later use.

PROTEIN:

When you eat protein it is broken down into amino acids. Again the Body will use what it needs at the time. Any excess will either be converted to Glucose and then go through the same process as Carbs or it will be stored in fat.

A common misconception is that the storing of fat is a bad thing. The truth is that anytime you eat anything there is a very strong chance that some of it will get stored as fat. The body only needs so much Fat, Protein and Carb throughout the day, When the amounts are exceeded they will get stored as fat. There is nothing wrong with this and this will not make you get fat. Your body is burning calories at all times. It will always be burning a mixture of Carb(Glycogen) and Fat. Thats right your body is burning fat all the time. So the storing of fat is only a problem if your body stores more fat then it burns. This only happens if you consume more calories then you burn.
