I love granola, and I eat a decent amount of it everyday. I eat only organic brands, not the commerical, high sugar brands. I was wondering if granola is a good source of the "good fats" that our bodies needs, as well as other nutrients? I have been eating more and more, but its mainly because I love the taste of it with my cereal.

Hi, Mike! It'd just depend on the ingredients ... we have to be label sleuths and nutrition students these days. It's best to check the label on everything you eat and maybe use a nutrition program like Fitday (either online or download the PC version).

If you love something, it seems like you should be able to fit it into a healthy diet ... just look at the label. :)

For me, that'd be an awful lot of sugar per serving (organic or not), but I have different goals and are of different ages, genders and body composition. For me, the fat per serving wouldn't be a problem unless I ate a lot more than one serving; also, for me, the cals are kind of high for 2/3 of a cup, but mostly it's just the sugar that would preclude my eating this ... but since you mix it with other cereal and if you don't eat a lot of other sugary things (like cakes, cookies), my personal opinion is, again, why not eat what you enjoy? :)

Well I dont eat that much fat per day. So I want to make sure that the fatty foods that I do eat are the good fats which are beneficial to my body. The ONLY sugar that I consume is from fruits for the most part. This is natural sugar which I believe is good for ones body.

even in the health stores much of the granola in bulk has added sugars. there are some good natural low fat granolas(like the ones with dried apples or nuts). but other dried fruit (raisins, pineapple, cherries) are a killer with all the sugar in it. its mostly mono fats so its not really bad but i use to eat granola like crazy when i was a vegetarian and the combination of those carbs & sugars was not a good idea. i would say if you like it eat it but in moderation. maybe sometimes you can switch to natural oatmeal (like mc canns),cinnamon & dried fruit with no sugar added. you have to watch the dried fruit, so many add fructose,or sulfites.
